So China and Chile are better off than they would have been had they developed as democracies so perhaps we should follow a similar pattern because nothing is more important than gdp per head.
    I think....

The much talked about lurch to the far right in mainland European politics has passed you by? lol!

Well it appears to have done. I am probably in the wrong place to notice as I live in the middle of mainland Europe.

I see that you are not prepared to show your location, why?

Anecdotally, I encounter similar sorts of reactions in wider acquaintance group. I've actually been surprised at the amount of people who will be voting out. When queried why it is usually because of EU regulations negatively impacting them. But further pressing reveals they don't know specifics of this or have examples. I generally leave it at that point.

I really fear that we're on the verge of doing something stupid and the 'remain' campaign are being too blas! about dismissing these people's views as stupid and therefore irrelevant. They're *not* irrelevant, they will be voting, for all of our futures. Dismissing them is the worst thing to do as it merely entrenches their opinion to vote to leave.

Very good points. However as you know those who have set their mind against the EU want the Divorce and will not be persuaded otherwise even if their opinion is baseless.
This is clear from the postings in this thread.

Impractical but I am not convinced it cannot be capable of a collective solution .Why would trying to climb on lorries or get passage on boats stop? Would they all just say, that's Britain 20 miles away, they are not EU and they shoot asylum seekers and other migrants?

I agree something needs to be done. Maybe we allocate emigrants to countries on a fair basis and issue a temporary national passport to people that excludes them from FoM unless they have demonstrated they can live, work, and learn the language. Maybe we divide the EU into Zones where FoM works based on regional prosperity.

Maybe after the world has sorted the problems in Syria and helped build a better society in the region we can repatriate those who have come from there.

    We need more imaginative solutions.

WE trade with the whole world already -55% go there (many through EU trade agreements we have already paid towards)

What regulations would go specifically? How would their removal help our trade with EU? Would we use different standards in producing 50 odd new agreements? How much will that cost? In 1970 (when we traded with the word there were loads of standards we had to follow on export and we imposed the same deal on imports)?

What has the Euro got to do with the UK?

If there was no mutual support to the poorer nations it would encourage regional instability

UK addresses its BoP issues by exporting more or importing less. Germany manages to Trade with China using an EU Trade Agreement but sells 3 times as much as we do. So we can do that.

Housing? Have you considered building more houses? No where do be get those builders from? Expelling immigrant builders will help?

As we do on theirs. My southern MP gets to vote on the Northern Powerhouse or to Build Warships in Scotland. Is that wrong? But our MPs can decide whether it becomes UK Law.

In other words you do not want to remain and no amount of talking will convince you. Can I ask, since we joined the EEC, have you ever voted for a party that has done this?

Thank you BobQ lots of good points and on subject. Too much posting on this thread about the past or about things that have nothing to do with the referendum.

If Britain votes Out it won't be due to a noble desire for self determination. It will be down to febrile xenophobia and little englander demagogues championed by Daily Mail brown shirt bullies.

This is not a country I want to wind up in in July.

    In.

it will offer a fine prospect of all the workers and all political parties united behind the captains of industry gleefully celebrating endless cheap labour, low wages, low productivity for at least another 30 years, whilst the workers face ever worsening housing and increased rents.
A prospect to warm the hearts of any true socialist (who will be far too business stabbing each other in the back)

How many Claptons does the UK have?

How many Claptons does the UK need?

How likely are we to be able to reduce our number of Claptons if British citizens no longer have free movement to other countries?

Ergo, immigration is a good thing.

    And emigration, preferably, of Claptons.

Why doesn't Clapton show his location.
there are too many people posting about this subject who are hiding where they live. IMO where you live in the UK will have an influence on your views on this subject.

I have zero faith in any of this lot to be a safe hand on the tiller.

Meanwhile we have negotiated a fair deal in a Europe which will have to change a lot of things that we object to anyway... e.g. Schengen.
    ...

I don't have great faith in our current lot of politicians either.

But I confess I have even less faith in the EU political class.

We are not voting to stay in something stable. It is clearly unable to deal with some rather basic challenges which it is facing.

What will the EU look like with half a dozen states within it clearly going against Schengen in a few years?

The EU might see itself as a beacon for the way forward; a model for growth; but it isn't really. The global economic power is shifting and we choose to ignore this.

There are great IT scientists and engineers we could tap in to from China; Brazil; India; Iran and other places. I worry that we will further exclude these people.

Germany wants immigration (as in Merkel). As it has a rapidly ageing population. Arguably this is a selfish attitude. Forcing a view onto other member states. Who don't face the same problem and have no need of a growing population.

Sorry? Don't you realise that almost every western Country has an aging population. You may not agree with Merkel but suggesting Germany is the only Country with an aging population is just plain WRONG.

Note to self, Dugh! I have just fallen into the trap of pointing out something that is wrong in a committed "outers" argument. This will not change anything to Thrugelmir

Or indeed if posters actually live in the UK. Unfortunately though, showing a location does not have to be the truth, does it.
