One bank out of scores of large banks in the city have said that hundreds of jobs will leave. There's every chance that most of the other large banks will now follow suit as they can act like sheep. I don't see this as something to dismiss lightly but Jock seems to think it largely unimportant. I am not surprised in the least.
You need to learn to read it seems:So whilst a few thousand lost will not be nice exactly, it certainly won't be fatal.
Also the link I enclosed says:"All the signals that we are seeing is that people are just making plans for the minimum necessary to ensure continuity. We are not seeing a great move in the signals," McGuinness told Reuters.
"The signals that we are seeing would be in the low thousands. Indeed at the moment, just a couple of thousand."
More than Jock saying it's "largely unimportant" then.
And personally I would trust the opinion of the City Of London's policy chief more than your opinion.0 -

There were a number of posts on this months back where it was said some thousands would go over as a means of keeping access and how the annual turnover of staff in the City is vast anyway and that many thousands could go and not even register as a loss.
I don't see it as negative at all, we're keeping our tentacles well spread and in the meantime global opportunities will present and create London jobs.
I've cited the Dim Sum and Massala Bond trade many times as written about by the CEO of the Stock Exchange as but ONE example of new opportunities. I've also posted the thinking of the head of the U.K. manufacturing technology association, who said most members voted remain but now 80% are reporting new unforeseen opportunities opening up.
It gets boring keep repeating these things and getting links.
There were also posts about three or four weeks back I think that gave the current coal face evidence from a head hunting firm claiming City hiring was brisk.0 -
A reminder about the attractiveness or otherwise of the continent to bankers.
Let's talk uncertainty here
In 2018 a raft of new Banking regulations are due to take effect in the EU, making it harder to make profits.
London is the worlds greatest financial centre, nothing is going to alter this
As I've said a hundred times, the City relies on decades of expert networking just can't up sticks to Frankfurt and start trading, having left all your rumour whispering trade contacts in London.0 -
This amused me and is also significantly closer to the truth than the Brexit supporters would like to admit...

The Institute for Government said that the scale of the "administrative challenge" in delivering a new immigration regime by early 2019 was "unfeasible" for the government, employers, landlords and public services providers.
A report, Implementing Brexit: Immigration, says that even the existing process for granting EU nationals permanent residency in the UK is not fit for purpose and that the Home Office could require as many as 5,000 more staff to process applications from longstanding residents who want to stay after Brexit.
The bulk of this will probably go to the likes of Serco or Capita, with more complex work done by civil servants.
Probably along the lines of the outsourcing of PIP, only hopefully more successful. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Seems to me that it is the same people who were blaming "the bankers" for all the UK's financial woes, are the ones now hand wringing over us losing some bankers.
No pleasing some folk...“If you trust in yourself, and believe in your dreams, and follow your star. . . you'll still get beaten by people who spent their time working hard and learning things and who weren't so lazy.”0 -

You or I could create such an organisation.
You are quite right. In fact it must be a nice cushy job.

I really don't think it's a sign of a healthy economy when we are left with obsessing over the loss of a relatively small number of jobs in a very specific region of the country.
Of course the revenue loss is important, but it isn't an easy case to sell PR-wise to a more mundane worker in one of the many regional towns.
Fact is, after the GFC, the blame *was* laid at the door of these bankers. There is no love lost for these people. Machines will replace these people in time.0
