May, ( a remainer) is hostage to the loons in her party. The opposition is completely divided and weak. The only balance is from the SNP........a party that wants to leave the UK altogether and therefore has no good will towards the union! May talks about pulling people together.......but embarks on divisive education, trades union reform policies....... The NHS and Social Care is a shambles. Her words about 'fairness' ring hollow. If we are being pulled together............ it's to address a crisis completely of our own making!....So why should we pull together? I for one do not believe in it so will oppose it. Speaking to friends on the continent, we seem to have embarked on a course of masochistic behaviour. It's so embarrassing.0 -
The truth is probably somewhere in-between. We'll adapt in the end and the world won't end.
It's an absolutely massive headache in the meantime to achieve such a modest outcome.
Agreed, I didn't vote Remain because I think Brexit will bring on Armageddon, and I don't think it will make the UK a poor country, but I do think on balance of probabilities we will be less well off than we otherwise would have been through the medium term at least. I very much hope to be proved wrong.0 -
Yes, perhaps this doom and gloom you spout will happen in the exact same way as we were told it would if vote leave won..
Remember the thousands of jobs we were told would go? The massive increase in prices? The huge loss of house hold income? The emergency Budget? World War 3? We were promised by the remoaners that this would have happened by now....
The emergency budget wasn't really called emergency budget as such... but we did have an autumn statement penciling in 122 billion extra borrowing thanks to your beloved brexit.
World War 3? Never mentioned by anyone on the remain side.
Massive increase in prices? Well..we did see CPI rising from near zero only 6 months ago to 2.3% last month. The trend is your friend.Don't blame me, I voted Remain.0 -

Was May even a Remainer really?
She certainly didn't offer much in the campaign on the biggest issue the political issue the UK has faced in recent times.
Personally I believe her entire positioning during the referendum campaign was primarily driven by her interest in becoming PM, rather than much of a reflection of her beliefs on the UK's relationship with the EU, I honestly have no idea what her views are on the ideal relationship between the UK and the EU.0 -

Change is always frightening, perplexing and embarrassing to those that would rather keep things as they are. A reaction as old as the hills. When we dared to leave Rome, the naysayers added nothing to that pivotal new road we took.
This great nation that gave the world common law, Human rights, wildlife protection, many sports, untold innovations, art music, equality and so much more is the result of those willing to change and lead, those with vision and fire in their belly.
BTW I find plenty Europeans greatly admire our choice.0 -

Where's my £gazillion for the NHS this week?
Surely you don't believe that only the [insert remain insult of choice] side lied. If you do then you're pretty credulous.0 -

There's plenty of time........like I said a car crash in slo mo. If you read between the lines the Govmt is clearly dampening down expectations and acknowledging the costs of Brexit......and that's before negotiations have started. We have chosen to give up unfettered access to a huge market on our doorstep for reasons which are illusionary.......... No one can point out a law the EU has stopped our Govmt implementing; even David Davis says immigration may increase not decrease; this Govmt did nothing to reduce the immigration from the rest of the world in any event, (something that was not the fault of being in the EU). There will be no quick fix trade deals....if you think Donald Trump will come to our rescue.....think again.....he can't even get rid of Obama Care. We are far down his agenda...despite Farage's !!!! licking! Our future is inextricably linked with our closest neighbours....always will be.....the future is about large trading blocs and the EU was our means to influence. We should have stayed tight with Germany and France. We have chosen to walk away from that to a very uncertain future. We can now look forward to years of hassle....wondering about the pound and whether they'll introduce visa's for us when we travel.....whether that Gite in Brittany is now off the radar and more importantly what are Germany and France up to and how we react to it. The opposing optimistic 'Singapore' view is a Harry Potter illusion. Singapore is part of a trading bloc....it's also one city....not a nation!0 -

She has set it up nicely so she can do a Pontius Pilate if it goes 'tits up' She has put all the Brexiteers in the front line. That is great for covering her !!!! but not great for achieving the most successful outcome.'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0 -

This change is regressive....not progressive. Also this great nation as you put it could split as a result. Scotland and N Ireland clearly do not want this new road. Huge chunks of the populations in Wales and England likewise. The changes you talk about are changes which are brought about by being open, co-operating, promoting LIBERAL values. This move we are making is reactionary, protective and 'walking away'. Ask those who are in Universities whose research is dependent on EU funding what they think of your 'fire in belly' 'vision'....hot air I suspect because their funding will go up the swanee! Ask the local councils in Wales how they plan to replace the EU grants they used to get....cause they ain't going to get equivalent funding from central Govmt......The reality is for the foreseeable future our Govm't is going to be fighting a rearguard action which will concentrate on putting the best possible spin on a future most of them, (including May) did not want!0 -
Digby Jones called the 21st century the 'Asian century'.
There is a good chance he will be proved right.
There is little to be gained investing in the likes of Romania or Poland. The big returns will be continued development of Asia and also renewed interest in South America.
Brexit is an opportunity to refocus.0
