As business services and finance make up almost a quarter of the UK's economy, entering into an agreement that explicitly disbars those things from being exported would be at best foolhardy.

Maybe citing the agreement with Canada isn't the best way to promote a Brexit unless of course you fancy paying all those taxes that rich bankers pay on your behalf.

maybe its an excellent example of what is possible for a small population country without pre-existing strong ties tot eh EU.

some of us like to expound the free trade vision as being good for both parties but sadly this board rarely celebrate the concept.

What is it with aggressive terminology like "angry little Englander"? Why ignore Scotland, NI, Wales? They have angry people too!

Yes. There are angry people. I should have thought one of the lessons learned from the Scottish indy ref, is to not refer to them in such a negative way.

You are hardly going to persuade them into a pro stance with such tactics.

TBH I don't know much about banking. However, I notice that US, Swiss and Japanese banks appear free to operate throughout the EU without any obvious restrictions.

And this article appears to suggest they pay very little tax anyway.

Either way if the EU want to continue selling us their cars, pharmaceuticals etc they're going to have to give access to our services.
If I don't reply to your post,
you're probably on my ignore list.

    Are they?

I wonder if the EU would be worse off not selling medicines to the UK or the UK would be worse off without medicine.

You'll be pleased to hear the UK has a thriving pharmaceutical sector of its own. We actually export more than we import. So manufacturing a few extra pills shouldn't prove too onerous.

I think you underestimate our capabilities.

You're very welcome to pretend that Brexit wouldn't be an economic cluster whatsit.

Vote as you will. If you get your wish, which is unlikely to happen but is a possibility of course, then I hope you have a plan B.

If this refers to me, I'm not trying to persuade anyone and am well aware that I won't be able to change the views of the Angry Little England Supremacists on here. :)
Don't blame me, I voted Remain.

Does anyone know, how soon after a potential brexit we can apply to rejoin again and how long that process will take? Maybe we need a brexit to learn a lesson, a couple of decades of hardship and then join the largest free trade in the world again....
Don't blame me, I voted Remain.

The sad thing is Mayo the likes of you and Hamish use this as your default arguement against anyone who has concerns over mass immigration and it does you no favours. This has nothing to do with colour, nationality or race and everything to do with the pressures that mass immigration has had on our services such as schools,NHS and housing etc.

Now we can argue all day long who's fault it is that we are in this position but the fact is we are where we are and increased immigration without proper planning will be to the detriment of us all but thats no reason to just keep the gates open and continue to allow an extra 1 million people into the UK every 3yrs.If we want/need more people then we should build the infrastructure to accomadate them before we allow them in. Thats called planning.

Its very sad that people like you feel the need to personally abuse others just because they don't agree with you. I'm working class so by no means a "supremacist".

Personally I have broad shoulders, take the internet for what it is but would guarantee you wouldn't say that to my face so you keep on being a brave boy on the net. ;)
