Isn't this mirroring the anti-Westminster sentiment in the Scottish indy ref run up?

This does remind me a lot of the Scottish referendum debate - the SNP and LEAVE offering some sort of Shangri-La which has no real foundation in reality and is nothing but a pipe dream.

None of the Brussels 'club' was voted in by British people, as far as I can recall

I bet you love the Queen and The Royal Family and all the Earls, etc, etc. none of whom were voted for by the British people and who are in fact German.

    Cognitive Dissonance.

I have to agree with this.
Labour 'complacency' could lead to Brexit, says Caroline Lucas

Green MP says Britain could ‘sleepwalk out of EU’ if Labour fails to make strong case for ‘remain’ referendum campaign

Labour has to get their voters out to the ballot box.

I know our politics have not stooped to US levels (yet), but I would have thought that the difficulties & complexities in negotiating trade agreements is well down the joe public's prority list compared with Higher cost of overseas holidays (stay), increased wages (leave), jobs (stay) immigrants (leave) etc etc

increased wages only occur if there is competition for jobs

By defintion, all bilateral trade agreemens are based on exclusvity.

Depends on what you agree too. Labour mobility is a key part of free trade, as is the principle of equal treatment.

Again it depends on what you agree. Any kind of comprehensive trade agreement can involve monitoring costs, and there has to be some mechanism for deciding who pays for them, and may involve other transfers as well depending on the agreement.

Free trade, virtually everywhere is defined as movement of goods and services.
whilst I guess, it could include people where they are slaves, in virtual every situation movement of people is not included in that definition.

there is no reason why you shouldn't be a passionate advocate of free movement of people, it would aid communication between people, if you stuck to the near universal meaning of the term 'free trade'.

What I was referring to was EU rules forbidding us to make trade deals with non EU countries

Not necessarily. The US has a trade agreement with Mexico, but mexicans can't just decide they want a better life, jump on the bus to the US and receive free housing and welfare benefits.

Fair enough, but I don't imagine Canada will be paying anything to the EU.

Well my thought for today was about our fellow citizens north of the border.
I'm sure this has been discussed before but I can't be bothered looking lol.

Why, if you wanted Scottish independence would you vote to remain?
Wouldn't you just vote leave to force a new independence referendum, which presumably would then be a guaranteed exit from the UK.

Of course, the worst case scenario for Sturgeon is a brexit, supported by masses of tactical Scottish votes, but surely she's having a few quiet words with her lunatic fringe (party members, not her own actual fringe) to help nudge the Scottish margin a bit closer.

one might say that if a majority of scots voted for exit, then Nicola's case for the legitimacy of a new Iscotland referendum would be undermined

I would happily introduce you to a couple of the Ambulance crews who have to deal with them so you can find out first hand of the problems they bring with them. They all carry knives and aren't afraid to use them on anyone so theres something for you to look forward too.

PM me if you genuinely want to come down here and find out for yourself;)...........
