I don't have time to debate the matter any further at the moment, as I'm about to go into a meeting. Any questions ask away, and I will answer them within reason when I have time later.
Just sounds like another UK taxpayers funded gravy train with the 'credit' going to the EU. All part of the EU prok barrel politics and corrupt patronage system.
I can fully understand why you are so pro-EU : I have no problem with benefit spongers, just with the system that allows this.
Quicker we leave the EU the better.0 -

Yep good post that. Our economy post Brexit will suffer a long but slow decline. Day after day evidence will be produced to prove otherwise but long term I think your view will be borne out. Access to the single market on terms no less favourable than those at present is highly unlikely.......accepting this and being honest that trade deals dont just happen and you already have the basis for our decline.
so basically you will proudly ignore all evidence that conflicts with your prejudices, but will continue to blindly believe that no country can prosper outside the holy EU.0 -
Indeed.
To describe the potential loss of 20% of ones car production as "taking a hit" is a bit of an understatement.
Is it of less concern than the increased automation and moving of assembly plants?
Lets be realistic, the UK buys just under 20% of German cars (I don't have actual figure to hand), so the German car market is only going to see a drop of 20% if we suddenly go to buying 0 German cars. Since they have a fairly unique position of being a low depreciating status good with a bit of a cult following, and predominantly bought on finance, their sales are unlikely to be hugely affected by a small price increase (on top of the price hike they've had due to the £ collapse).
People currently pay over the odds for German cars (though to be fair, some are cheaper on PCP than UK cars) and would never think of going elsewhere due to brand perceptions. Will they change brand over what may be as little as £20/month price difference? Will they just go to a slightly lower spec?
There are plenty of credible threats to German car industry jobs*, but I honestly don't think a poor trade deal with the UK is the biggest one. Also bear in mind that Germany can demand that part of the trade deal we get involves tariff free car trade, thus their problem is solved and we're still largely stuffed.
To be honest I think French car manufacturing have a lot more to worry about; a price hike of their French produced range (if they actually make any there now?) will likely drive customers over to the Japenese/Korean brands as they are a lot more competitive. I can see people jumping from Renault to Hyundai based on price, but I can't see people jumping from BMW to Hyundai based on price.
*Automation, offshoring, affordability, emissions, environment controls, fuel prices, city restrictions and so on.0 -
a truely awesomely silly statement
but I take comfort that I know you would never live in such a vile country or take advantage of consequences of any aspect of its history.
What's incorrect about it? Is it just too much of an uncomfortable truth?
I didn't say other countries didn't do the same thing, the Dutch and Spanish had a lot of colonies, but I'm pretty sure we ended up with the biggest empire by quite a long margin.
Now we do have lots of innovation going on now, and I'm not going to minimize that. but lets not pretend that our old money came from something flowery and pleasant.0 -
On the back of slavery Yes we copied almost every known civilisation since those pesky Babylonians introduced slavery, opium trading one for those Greeks and colonization? Italians (Romans) mastered this one...
Back in the day we had a habit of copying others..."I want to die peacefully in my sleep like my grandfather, not screaming in terror like his passengers."0 -

The uncomfortable truth is that total hypocrites like to criticise the country in which they live, whilst taking full cynical advantage of all the consequences of evils they complain about.
Personally I donot feel responsible for the events of the past and am concerned only with the present and the future.
In any event it has no relevance to the topic here.0
