Both FullFact and the BBC say the net contribution is about £8.5 billion.
Oddly enough, that's about the same amount of money that is 'contributed' to Scotland. Perhaps we should have a referendum on which one we should leave.:)
Eh? And they want to leave ok ,
Bye bye
That would be funny and the EU will have to give them 8 billion plus they lose our 8..
So 16 billion worse offf ha ha:rotfl: the EU will be really cheesed off .
. made my day:):):)
Just thought on our brexit talks, we could threaten them with giving scotland independence.“Life isn't about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself.”

Seriously, you're starting to lose perspective.
If, as you suspect, the two year timeframe was poorly thought out and inappropriate then why compound that by trying to achieve what can't be achieved in such a time frame?
It's probably in our own best interests to have a phased withdrawal.
If the EU 'corruptly' delay then we remain a sovereign nation and can walk away and tell them to do one should we so wish.
there seems no objective reasons why two years can't see the UK leaving the EU; however, the EU narrative plus the usual Blairs, Cleggs, etc is that it will take longer : well its true that is takes two to tango and the EU can drag things out deliberately.
Its probably in our best interest to leave asap and sort out any problems after the effect.0 -
Please show us which forecasts in the Autumn statement have so far been proven to be false.
You don't 'compellingly' disprove OBR forecasts by simply making your own based on nothing more detailed than a firmly stated opinion.
The Telegraph are feeding their readers with stories they want to read. The OBR forecasts will be wrong, the treasury forecasts will be wrong and the forecasts from the boss of economists for brexit will be wrong too.
you are free to look at previous OBR forecasts and compare with the actual outturns; They have made about 2 a year since 2010-11 so it should be easy for you to do that. The reported results (not personally checked by me) seem to show a consistent underestimating of the economy : but you do your own analysis.0 -
Just watched a really interesting interview with Peter Ricketts, former UK Ambassador to France on Sky News.
He was asked about the elections in France and what would happen. He said that a Fillion victory (possibly a Juppe one) is more likely than a Le Pen one, but that he didn't think that the latter was impossible.
In the event of a Fillion win, as a Thatcherite and advocate of free trade, he did not think Fillion would seek to harm the UK and would be seeking deals. On the other hand, if Le Pen wins, he sees this potentially as "game over" for the EU and doesn't believe that the EU will survive.
He also spoke about the Le Touquet Agreement. Saying that all political parties in France have expressed their concern over what was happening in Calais. However since it has been dismantled, the problem has subsided, and that ease of movement between the two countries will be retained, with any new government having more important things to deal with. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? How committed is the Government to overcome shortfalls in available energy? Does any one know, does even the Government know?Thrugelmir wrote: »"National Grid Interconnector Holdings Limited, together with our project partners, are in the feasibility stage of developing an interconnector between Great Britain and Iceland*. The project is known as IceLink.
National Grid's project partners are Landsvirkjun, the state owned generator in Iceland, and Landsnet, the Icelandic Transmission System Operator (TSO).
A capacity of 1,000MW is being investigated, with desk studies ongoing to establish feasible converter sites, onshore and offshore High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) cable routes, and landing points. It is expected that the landing points for the cable will be in Northern Scotland and South East Iceland.
The interconnector is expected to be around 1,000km in offshore cable length with an HVDC converter located in each country converting Direct Current (DC) to Alternating Current (AC) (and vice versa). It will connect the Icelandic and Great Britain electricity networks allowing electricity to be traded between the two countries. The cable will enable electricity to flow in both directions. "
Not new news, as the concept is some years old.A multibillion pound project aimed at using the power generated by Icelandic volcanoes to fuel British households has lined up a major French infrastructure investor to back its development.0 -

Here's food for thought :
Any EU fanatics here able to tell me why the Euro or EU is not toast in the long run?
How much has the Greek economy contracted and when will it stop?
What's to stop the same thing happening to Portugal; Ireland; even Italy and Spain?
As has been pointed out when youth unemployment is high, your talented young have no other option but to go and seek employment elsewhere.
Why wouldn't the EU fracture along broadly North/South lines?
I see leaving the EU as damage limitation personally, because if it does go pear shaped it would cost us dearly. We would be expected to bail the zone out.
Here's food for thought about Britain.
What do you care if the EU implodes
Why such a long delay before Brexit
Is Brexit going to happen
Is Brexit going to take a lifetime
What is the price of lost opportunity

Bavarian Economy Minister Ilse Aigner has advocated for a comprehensive new trade agreement between the UK and the EU in order to minimise potential damage following Brexit, according to Die Welt.
She is quoted as saying that Brexit poses “high risks” for the Bavarian economy as she views the UK as “one of the most important trading partners for Bavaria.” She adds, “We have to do everything to address the uncertainties that have arisen…we have to find ways to put economic relations with the UK on a new foundation without fractures.”0 -
