The answer to the question 'if we vote for Brexit what happens' remains the same as when this thread started. We don't know.

    The answer has long been known;

EU-UK trade will not be hampered, time and again I've explained why, and how the EU has many tariff free deals with tiny insignificant markets, let alone us with existing fully aligned trade

No barriers to trade will be erected as this would harms French and German citizens, a point endlessly ignored by remainers

We will make our own decisions and turn our faces globally

We will monetise our deep global links and soft power

We will of course allow immigration, but we will make decisions on it. Hysterical rants about drawing up drawbridges and turning backs on neighbours was always nonsense

We will obviously work closely with our neighbours on cross border issues

All of this has been stated since the beginning, it's all common sense

What's in it for the French to allow passporting for our financial services (by far our biggest industry)?

They want to maintain thier exports to us that give real people real income. They want thier many passports that allow them access to the deepest capital markets on the planet.

Passports are not much used by UK companies anyway. Let's imagine they are withdrawn from UK business (they won't be as we would hamper French exports to us), then all we would need do is open little brass plate offices in Dublin. The city is hugely more attractive than Paris or Frankfurt, so they will remain here.

I've explained to you the EU is more intrusive and so Banks prefer London. Now add to this he new raft of regulation comming in under BASEL 4 and MIFID 2 and it's a no brainer.

Then imagine under your scenario where will all throw a strop and hamper trade, the French and Spannish would know thier fishing rights would be hampered

Almost all of the banks in the city use passporting. Would brassplating allow a bank access to the EU or would a more physical presence be required? Perhaps it'll allow access to that country only. I don't know and don't pretend that you do either because you clearly don't.

Do you honestly believe that UK based banks won't be subject to MiFID or Basle (or their equivalents) when we pull out?

London is very attractive as a global financial centre but there's no reason why European banks couldn't reduce their presence here. Perhaps they'll buy one of those lovely brass plates that you're so keen on.

In the grim days befor Blair opened the floodgates, when we had better managed immigration in the tens of thousands, people weren't so focused on immigration.

Liberal establishment gave us Brexit, people with your world view that ignored and dismissed concern

The liberal establishment gave us equality, workers' rights, sick pay, guaranteed holiday, pensions, the NHS, human rights and a welfare safety net.

All your sort have ever provided is division and mistrust, at best, and hatred and poverty at worst.

And now you've done it again.

    Thanks a lot.

I'd started getting somnolent after a few minutes and didn't get to the end but in the part that I watched he didn't say anything earth shattering. "I was able to give Nissan reassurance that the government's position is that we don't want tariffs imposed". Quite frankly I'd be more than a little disappointed if they did.

Considering Brexiters have made everything we import from the continent about 30℅ more expensive, practically overnight. They've effectively introduced trade tariffs themselves.

As far as I can see most of what we export now is services like banking and insurance, but these industries now look at least relatively likely to relocate.

    Hiya Toxic.
There are threads in these forums about this - Hamish has started a few.
So far the consensus is that TBH not much is happening yet.
In which case, care to share where these "30% more" examples are then?

Us Remainers wanted to stay in the EU so that we could continue to trade unhindered with Europe.

Considering that only 5% of UK companies export to the EU, and many of these are foreign owned multinationals. Very easy to see where the (money talks) lobbying is coming from. The fact that JCB resigned from the CBI. Clearly illustrates that there is a divide in opinion within business itself.

We are one of the leading export nations. We've never exported as many cars as now, and the automotive industry is growing rapidly, even Dyson is now setting up a car plant.

If you could be a bit more positive about our sucess and stop seeing us as weak and a nation that doesnt export much, you might find you had a positive outlook for us.

Have you looked at our satellite sector for example? Do you realise it's a world beater, same with pharma.

A good friend visited us yesterday. Her firm is struggling as they import cards from China, however they are now sourcing UK cards and realising they should have done this years ago. This is al excellent news for us
