    Euromyth.
    Source of Euromyths.
Accusations of distorted or untruthful reporting are most commonly directed at conservative and Eurosceptic sections of the British media. Stories often present the European civil service as drafting rules that "defy common sense". Examples cited as Euromyths include stories about rules banning mince-pies, curved bananas and mushy peas
The alleged ban on curved bananas is a long-standing, famous, and stereotypical claim that is used in headlines to typify the Euromyth. Amongst other issues of acceptable quality and standards, the regulation does actually specify minimum dimensions. It also states that bananas shall be free from deformation or abnormal curvature. However the provisions relating to shape apply fully only to bananas sold as Extra class; some defects of shape but not size) are permitted in Class I and Class II bananas.

    Yes, that's what I said.

    facts are useful

the facts are that the effect was to make 'second' class fruit unsellable: agreed it wasn't a criminal imprisonable offence but the effect was to make the fruit unsellable.

Why do you think that a EU official should have any view on the shape of fruit sold anywhere at all?
    what value should this add?

There seems to be an assumption that the only reason one would vote for the UK parliament to have control over immigration policy is because you want to see less of it. What about those of us who might want to see more or the same number ut with a different mix of skills?

I understand those who are articulate, in good jobs, probably already own a house (or two) and who benefit from increased supply of low skill labour holding down prices of cleaners and plumbers wanting to keep the status quo with unlimited unskilled migration from the EU allowed but can those same people not see that we had control of our boarders and also allowed unlimited migration of unskilled and skilled labour from the rest of the world then that daily cappacino could be even cheaper and their BTL could e subdivided still further to bring in more income and fund a nice early retirement in Spain. This would also save on education and training costs as Brisih companies would not need to bother as semi-skilled labour at minimum wage would always be just a flight ticket away.
    I think....

Do you think it's wrong to have classifications? I often buy Class I or Class II fruits. If I buy Class II fruits, I expect them to be smaller of sometimes weirdly shaped or whatever. Don't see the issue.

let's celebrate the things that we agree about : that there will be no significant change to the asylum seeker situation after brexit in the UK.

as far a mis-shapen fruit is concerned, I understand you do want an expensive bureaucracy to tell you a banana is bendy : I can manage this all by myself.

    ...

    We were discussing this.

If Brexit did occur we would hope to bring in more skilled people from India and a couple of other rising places. But then, we need niche skills, and the worry is the current focus on EU migration is constraining attracting people from elsewhere. That's not a reasoning relevant to most of the public I accept.

However, if we remain, there is a solution, which is to send the work abroad. That gets a bit complicated but it's just a hurdle.

I can also tell a bendy banana from a non-bendy one, but I think it's common sense that lower class fruits can't be passed off as Extra Class or Class A.
Is it just bananas you have an issue with, or do you want to get rid of all food labeling regulations?

I object to poorly thought out regulations that have bad side effects.
That is equally true whether UK grown or EU grown.
However, with home grown nonsense it is much easier and quite to get it changed.

Food regulation should be about safety and animal welfare and not on appearance.
