Child Benefit & Child Maintenance

My son is 20 on Friday doing full time college at level 3 and all money stops on Friday for him.. but he isn't eligible to claim anything at all .. so we go from about £200 a week to nothing overnight.. it is ridiculous.. we cant afford to eat as it is.
£200 per week, for an adult child! No wonder a lot of tax payers think that benefit claimants take the pi**.0 -
I was under the impression that funding would only be available if the student had not studied at that level before (which they will have done if they had progressed to university)? It may have changed more recently, but something to double check.
As for how to make up the money lost when the child reaches 20 - employment seems the most obvious answer. Most full time courses allow plenty of time for a part time job.0 -
Just to clarify, the child needs to be accepted into to course before their 19th birthday to qualify for CB/tax credits.
The course can start after their 19th birthday but acceptance must be before.0 -
Was 19 in April 2015. So now, still unsure!!!!Loved our trip to the West Coast USA. Death Valley is the place to go!0

as per the link in post 4
"Your child must be accepted onto the course before they turn 19."0 -
Because the people who are SUPPOSED to know don't.. DWP, Connexions, college.. none of them know anything. It isn't in the 'parenting manual' they are born with, there is no info online.. nothing anywhere..
The PWC should know though, they are the ones that had the child(ren) not DWP, connexions or whoever else, it's not always somebody else's fault.0 -

that's less than a uni student gets but they still have course materials and travel to pay for as well as food and clothes and housing/bills.. it's a darn site less than they would get working or living independently.. why should they not have the means to continue studying? Everyone is entitled to apply, it's only child benefit and tax credits the same as the OP mentioned.. why should we not get them? if it was your child you too could claim tax credits are based on your income. How is that in any way related to 'benefit claimants'?? (I'm assuming you are trying to be derogatory to those in receipt of unemployment benefits as usual)
All those on other threads complaining about how parents don't support independently living uni students thereby 'hinder their learning' but when they support their children of the same age at college they are flamed for that too.. So it's ok to have loans and grants and bursaries if you are 20 and at uni but not if you are at college studying a course of the same level? My daughter at uni gets double what he does PLUS childcare grants.. why should she have it and not him?LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -

how?? if the information is not given somewhere why would anyone know? Do you know?? Were you born with such knowledge?
And yes those people should know.. it is their job to know! They know all about what you can claim at uni so why is college so different? The Student Finance office at the college don't know.. why?? it is their job!LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -

The information is readily available online. If you have the ability to find out how much you can claim in benefits (for multiple children), then surely you are also capable of working out when they end - or is that when you plead ignorance?0
