and my children aren't, in your opinion, acceptable to receive an education or healthcare either ....

No one is saying that, they/I are saying that your claim to have 3 adults paying more tax than your family takes out is wrong.

This is getting more surreal by the minute... there are over 11,000,000 children in the UK.. 5.2 million have parents claiming tax credits, 3.7m live in poverty, 1.7m in severe poverty... many of those families will have had their children while working and subsequently lost their job, or fled domestic violence, or become ill.. you do what you must, what you can and what you are able having people who have never experienced it judge the parents because of the now and today is just inhumane!
    .

Inhumane? Most people when they know finances are tight don't keep popping them out. You really do have a sense of entitlement. Benefits are there for people in real need.

I find this thread, the tone of some of the posts and replies REALLY sad and deeply unpleasant.

So much disregard for someone's own children and the implications that their own judgements will have on the rest of their offsprings' lives. Horrible.

This thread is about 6 pages too long. :(

Now I am irate! PMSL? No I'm not!

My husband works himself to the bone, pays every penny the government asks for in taxes and provides everything his child requires in terms of housing, clothing and food - and this will include paying for any post 18 education. In addition he is paying for YOUR CHILDREN to have the same, through his taxes.

    you work then?

Forcing your son to leave halfway through his course contradicts with enabling him to have a decent education. Which is it?

Particularly as he's unable to do any work so won't be contributing to the household finances.

No, I'm currently a stay at home Mum. I worked 20 years prior to that, mainly as a higher rate tax payer. I don't actually need to justify myself because I have never cost the State a penny - my "costs" have been born by the household of which I have been a member, as a child by my parents, as a single person by myself, as a partner jointly and now my husband supports the three of us.

So you're better than the rest of us then? 'cos life worked out OK for you? You don't need to justify yourself to anyone but anyone who doesn't meet your standards needs to justify themselves to you?

I don't know about anyone else but it is Pigpen's son I feel sorry for. Pigpen is it a course he really wants to do and will it help him with what he wants to do in life? Isn't there anyway you can help him to complete the course unless he really isn't fussed. It seems sad to me if a young man with problems can't get a few months help so that he can finish the course.

If this is the general mentality of the country no wonder we're all screwed! ..If you want to get super-silly.. My grandparents paid for your education, my children will pay for your grandchildrens education.. Have you ever heard of 'paying it forward' ?? I can't give my children much but I hope by enabling them to have a decent education I can give them a decent grounding for the future but it looks likely my son will have to leave halfway through the year because we cant afford for him to finish.. it's like the 1800's!

And what we pay benefits your family.. it all really goes in a big pot and is shared out.. I don't begrudge you one single penny.. I am glad we can have a 'free' education and healthcare regardless of income or age.. and at least in that respect we are all mostly equal.. maybe a lot less in the pot used to invade other countries and kill their people would be nice.

There are not 1.7million children in 'severe poverty' in the UK. You'd be hard pushed to find anyone in real severe poverty on this island.

I find it interesting how you were, quite violently, arguing that people needed to be financially self-supporting on one thread, but it turns out you're nothing of the kind. There must be a word for that.
