I'm not flaming you, I think the welfare state is a good thing and I don't want any disabled person or any child to live in poverty. You said you were paying more in that you were taking out, my point was accuracy not that you shouldn't have it.
Well we have way less coming in than the £18K+ the combined 3 adults pay in..LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
I doubt it.. £23k over a 3 year course you just said they get £18 so its less but not much.. plus course fees paid and the loan if they took it out.
Your figures always seem to be a bit off. You said you were losing £10k a year, £200 a week, as your son was losing benefits which were less than uni students, who get over £20k a year. The degree normally takes 3 years, so are you talking about £20k a year or £20k for the course.Sell £1500

Not really it was fine in context.. and a bursary is a one off allocation whereas fees are annually charged.. I assumed people knew that.. I do!
No, you apply for the bursary annually and it is paid monthly. I put the bunting out when my last one left uni as I would never have to fill in a form and prove our income for a bursary/loan/grant ever again. It is burnt on my mind and I know how it is done.Sell £1500

NHS Student Bursaries - Award Estimate Calculator
Thank you for completing our Award Estimate calculator. Your estimated entitlement for an NHS Bursary Basic Award and the Extra Weeks, Dependants and Parent Learning Allowances is shown below.
Your estimated bursary is: £4,483.00
This was for a single adult, no dependents no other income.
Newly qualified nurses salary is £21 k .....a pay drop after training ? I think not !!
Students at Uni recieve a LOAN of 4k ish plus fees ....which has to be paid back when they are working, not the same at all as getting benefits !!
My figures weren't far off then, like I said it is all burnt in my brain.:rotfl:Sell £1500

You don't work so you don't pay tax so I presume you are Speaking about 3 fathers? Your current guy can't be earning that much if you are reliant on tax credits and can't afford food on the table, so between you both you are hardly putting a dink into a tax system that provides you with benefits, schools etc...The medical care costs for your pregnacies will surpass any NI paid in...0 -

Ours were done as a one off sum mine was split into monthly payments over the duration of the course.. I know my daughter has one which is done like that and my sister had one the same for her law degree but theirs are/were made as 9 payments over the 3 years course.. none of ours were/are NHS bursaries. so ty oyster but that's not accurate for ours.
looking at the prospectus for next year and bursary info it has dropped a lot.. they did say we were the last year before they did a criteria shake up..LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -

I don't??? ... crap... I hadn't realised.. what have I been doing the last several months then *confused*
Like I said previously.. people shouldn't make assumptions.
I don't have medical care (or lack of) during pregnancies. I usually have 2 scans and a booking visit.. anything extra is forced onto me.. but I haven't been to see the GP in the last 6 years either... swings and roundaboutsLB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -

I have never heard of any uni grants/loans/bursaries that you didn't have to reapply for every year and mine have all done different degrees at different universities. Were they from the university itself? For national awards we did lots of research and never found anything like that.
Yes the nursing bursaries and fees are being radically changed. I think it is harsh as nursing students really don't have the chance to work much if at all. They don't have the long university holidays and when on placements they are in effect doing a fulltime job.Sell £1500

no the uni ones were annual but these were from elsewhere like the nhs ones but not from the nhs .. my sisters was a law one based on a presentation
Psychology students do about 12 hours actually in uni.. and I know they are meant to do study outside of those hours too but nursing students did 5 full days inc placements throughout holidays and it doesn't seem particularly fair at all.
One of my daughters bursaries is from the 'gifted and talented' section of the university body.. and I have no idea what the other is for.LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -

My daughter was offered money from various universities, she chose to go to a prestigious uni that wasn't offering anything. What she was offered was generally £1k a year not huge amounts, no compared to other finances.Sell £1500
