It was a bit of a plod and I have a feeling that WW1 has been done to death, no pun intended. It's also about his own family.
His Birds without Wings is one of my favourite books, so I felt a little disappointed. Book group discussion tomorrow .
I'm rushing to finish Suite Francaise for the bookgroup on Friday - we must feedback how the discussions go. My hopes for ours are not high.:(0 -

You've just jogged my memory, missbiggles:T. I have Suite Francais waiting to be read. I was given it by my sister-in-law who received it as a duplicated gift. It's still spanking new and has been in my suitcase since Christmas:o.0 -
I had to buy the first books in the series off amazon in used books as I couldn't get them as ebooks or find them in the library. I highly recommend the series of books. I am upto book 18 now. :j£2 savers club 2025 #2= £480

I have just finished Tess Gerritsen's The silent girl. And wow, I couldn't put the book down it was so good. I hadn't read any of her other novels but I am a fan of the Rizzoli and isles on tv. The book kept me in suspense right to the end. Usually most books I guess what happens but I had no idea what was going to happen with the ending for this book. i am going to see if i can find her other books in my local charity shop now. :rotfl:£2 savers club 2025 #2= £480

I expect some will focus on the romance, like the film, rather than the flight if the refugees and attempt to build new lives.
My friend raves about it and nominated it for BG some years ago. I've been intending to re-read it, but I've a pile.Member #14 of SKI-ers club

Recently read
22 - The Lazarus Prophecy – F G Cottam
23 - Prince – Rory Clements
24 - Catching Fire – Suzanne Collins
25 - Mockingjay – Suzanne Collins
22 - better than expected - police procedural, with Jack the Ripper / supernatural overtones
23 - If you like Shardlake, this series is quite good
24 and 25 - books 2 and 3 in the Hunger Games Trilogy. I know it's young adult fiction, but I thought they were very good indeed.

Just finished reading
The Death Collector by Neil White
It was a book my DH bought in a bundled offer and I was stuck for something to read and borrowed it. Actually found it better than I expected and will see if the library has any other of his books.

I've just read this cover to cover, found in my parents home and full of handy OS tips:
7/10 - but then it's a quick read of about 100 pages, so worth the time invested. Some of the tips around food felt a little old fashioned for modern tastes, which made me wonder when the book was written. The answer was found on p42..."Use two litre plastic ice-cream boxes for stacking cassette tapes" - a relic from the 1980s, I guessed. In fact first published in 1990, incredibly over quarter of a century ago!
Eta: wk 17 and I think I have read just 16 books thus far, although also read lots of work stuff that got in the way of lifeValue-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

Just joined my library - been here for 7 years and hadn't registered as I was working long hours and just never got round to it.
Registered online on Monday and got all my log in details today and am now the proud 'borrower' of One For The Money (well it's on its way from another branch) on audio CD as they didn't have the book.
The library also has magazines online - so I've got to read Cosmo, Rugby World and OK magazine - how fabtastic is that?
I never knew what I was missing.
Just finished reading Clovenhoof by Heide Goody
'Charged with gross incompetence, Satan is fired from his job as Prince of Hell and exiled to that most terrible of places: English suburbia. Forced to live as a human under the name of Jeremy Clovenhoof, the dark lord not only has to contend with the fact that no one recognises him or gives him the credit he deserves but also has to put up with the bookish wargamer next door and the voracious man-eater upstairs.'

This is almost a 9/10 for me as it had me chuckling quite a lot along the way. A few Saints appear as bit characters which adds a few laughs too.:hello:0 -

Don't you just hate when that happens?
Overprepare, then go with the flow.
