It was impossible to read Extinction by D J Molles slowly as I had to find out what happened so I finished it last night.
Very sad :( to have finished the series, they are the best series of books I've read. The ending was what I was hoping for :D
I'm also hoping he might decide to write more. Pretty please with a cherry on top

If you like Apocalypse/end of the world/zombie novels I can't recommend these highly enough. They do need reading in the right order or they won't make sense.

Have just skim-read through this, 4/10:

    Mars%20And%20Venus%20Starting%20Over-300x300.jpg

There's nothing theoretical to be gained from reading this book: it's only value might be when you're fresh from a break-up and don't want to face the world. For the vast majority of us there is not enough time for this kind of navel gazing, if you ask me.

Posting this in the hope that it will save the good folk on this thread from wasting their valuable lives! So unless you're staying at Heartbreak Hotel, avoid.

Ive just recommended to my DD, too. She's had an operation and feeling drained, not able to concentrate on anything too serious. Ove is an uplifting read, just what she needs.

Another vote for "A Thousand Splendid Suns here" :)

    .

And another vote. I've also read 'And the Mountains Echoed' by the same author.

Good, but not as good as the above.

I popped oveer to my sister's place yesterday evening to grab some supplies for the baby...and came across a supermarket bag-for-life choc-full of BN chunky paperbacks! I didn't go through it as its her property but will ask her from whence they came and if they can be shared. She helps herself to my stash without asking, after all.

Well, I didn't manage to start the bargain charity shop Donna Leon book that I had planned for the weekend:(.

I've had a lot of real-life problems to cope with and haven't been able to give my full attention to reading this past few weeks. I seem to have read a few pages, been interrupted, forgot what I'd just read or who was who or where the plot was up to and had to read it again. Not conducive to gaining much enjoyment from a book:eek:

I soldiered on with my first Mary Higgins Clark book, I can't imagine how I've never read anything by her before seeing as she's been so prolific. This one was The Shadow Of Your Smile and I thoroughly enjoyed it (in the circumstances;)). I loved the way the tension built up and it was a real page-turner. The only problem with this book was that there seemed to be so many coincidences and connections that sometimes it seemed a bit unlikely that so many of the characters' paths could cross and their lives become so inextricably linked. Also, the loose ends were tidied up a bit too quickly and simply for my liking after the rollercoaster of the story.

Having said all that though I'd certainly read more of her books. I'll give this one 7 out of 10.

    Hello bookworms :hello:

Had a couple of book failures and didn't finish either of them.

Host by Robin Cook. I realise this is a medical thriller but IMO there was too much unnecessary detail that got in the way of telling the story. I expected to find a test at the end of every chapter and if I passed all the tests I'd be 12.5% qualified as a doctor :rotfl:

Black eyed Susans by Julia Heaberlin. This book seems to be everywhere and everyone says how great it is but I found it really hard to get into and actually rather dull. The timeline switching back and forth got irritating as I felt I couldn't properly get into the story of either timeline.
Very disappointed - I had great hopes for this book

I'm now reading March Violets by Philip Kerr which is much better :T
This is a Bernie Gunther novel and I've read 5 others. March Violets was the first one published in 1989 and is part of the "Berlin Noir" trio of books that you can get in one volume. The others are The Pale Criminal and A German Requiem. I've been keeping an eye for them in charity shops and recently found a copy for 99p :D
Bernie Gunther is a great character and the books are very well written. They have been called modern classics and I agree. They are an absolute delight to read. Most of them are set in Germany in the 1930's/40's/50's and they give a lot of insight into how ordinary Germans lived at the time.
When I've finished March Violets I'll probably read the next one although I did get books out of the library today and might be tempted to read one of them.

I thought I would share a picture of me reading :p:D

Almost finished "In The Cold Dark Ground" by Stuart McBride. I love his Logan MacRae books, full of humour as well as good storylines and gruesome details! This one doesn't disappoint.
After that it's "The Taming of The Queen" by Phillipa Gregory, the latest in the Tudor series.
    Eclectic reading eh?
    Normal people worry me.

Not a recent read, but one of my all-time favourites. I read this morning that it is being made into a mini-series and find it hard to believe it could beat the book. 8/10:
