May I de-lurk to say, I bought this last week in a CS, I had previously seen the author on TV and had earmarked the book for the future. Haven't started it yet as need a few books for a forthcoming 3 week holiday.:)The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)0 -
:hello: Hello everyone - I'd like to join you all please.
I've just seen a couple of posts recommending the Janet Evanovich 'Stephanie Plum' series and now really, REALLY want to dive in but can't seem to find the first few books as an ebook anywhere.
When ebooks first came out I hated the very thought of them and was convinced I'd never get one. Then I needed some surgeries (both hands and then my shoulder) and my husband bought me a Kindle as I couldn't hold books easily with my 'boxing glove' hands.
That was back in 2007 and I've got all lazy and haven't read a 'proper' book in years... the pages don't turn themselves and they don't light up at night.
Has anyone seen any 'cheap' sets of the Stephanie Plum series anywhere? I think I'll have to trot to the library and have a looksy.:hello:0 -

I've read the Stephanie Plum books as far as 17. They are a lot of fun
Just had a quick look on Amazon and, for example, you can get the first 3 books for 1p plus postage. (this is hardback so I don't know if that would be a problem for you).
The first book - One for the money - in paperback is 1p plus postage. As are a lot of the later numbers.
Do check your library if you'd rather not buy them - my library has them.0 -
Just a quick heads up... I know it's a big outlay but Amazon has 20% off Kindles at the moment. £47.99 for the standard Kindle and £87.99 for the Paperwhite.
Just in case...:hello:0 -
^ I love my kindle.:) Whenever I read a paper book now it feels really heavy and unwieldy in my hands.:D
I started reading Broken Promise (Promise Falls 1) by Linwood Barclay yesterday. I do like his style of writing. I really liked No Time for Goodbye.
Broken Promise is a treat, full of ingenuity and flair and, what's more, it's a book that does not accentuate its effects, but assumes that the reader will be paying the closest attention. (THE INDEPENDENT)0 -

Had an email from Amazon today, promoting the new Kindle Oasis. However, the original is still showing. At £59.99Member #14 of SKI-ers club

Let me know what you make of it - it's still on my undecided list. As work is very intense, the majority of my reading is now more lightweight apart from holidays as my concentration has gone down the pan of late.
I prefer proper paper books still (paperback, hardback is too much effort to hold.) Partly because you can leave them anywhere and read them in the bath. But also because the library selection for ebooks is so limited that I wouldn't get half the books I wanted if I just relied on ebooks without having to pay out more than I would wish..
I have my trusty Nook that I paid £17 with various offers that has been amended so I can use it for amazon books as well. That does me for holidays. But I still take a caseful of books along as well. Less fussed if someone nicks them on the beach! All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
I've just finished The Dust that Falls from Dreams, by Louis de Berniers.
It was a bit of a plod and I have a feeling that WW1 has been done to death, no pun intended. It's also about his own family.
His Birds without Wings is one of my favourite books, so I felt a little disappointed. Book group discussion tomorrow .Member #14 of SKI-ers club
