On the way home yesterday I heard a talking book being read out on Insight Radio (RNIB local digital station) - "Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day". Checked Kinde prices and it's a bit steeper than I prefer so have ordered the lone copy our library has. I saw the film a few years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it and the section they read out reminded me how much. Looking forward to this

I've read this and it's very enjoyable - Persephone reprinted it a few years ago and it's had a lot of very good reviews. It's quite 'whimsical', but if you like it then I'd recommend 'Miss Hargreaves' by Frank Baker. It's not at all similar in terms of the storyline but it's another one of those slightly whimsical novels that's great fun and actually quite moving - in the novel, the 'hero' decides to write a letter to a fictional, eccentric spinster that he calls 'Miss Hargreaves', only to be very shocked indeed when she turns up to visit him ...

Finally finished "Never Let Me Go" by Kazuo Ishiguro; didn't enjoy it. I kept waiting for it to get somewhere but it never did; really disappointed.

    Oh, I loved that!

I've just finished 'Tightrope', by Simon Mawer, not bad and started 'Life, Death and Vanilla Slices', by Jenny Eclair. Great - funny and pointed.

  • I always enjoy anything by Barbara Vine (Ruth Rendell's pen name) and I'm currently reading The Brimstone Wedding but am finding it a real struggle. This isn't because of the story which I'm loving but the fact that the font/typeface is extremely small and faint. The light in this house isn't the best and even with a reading lamp as well as the main lights on I'm finding a chapter is enough in the evening. Such a pity as I'm finding the story really gripping and like to spend a lot of my evenings reading.

It's a Penguin edition but says Not For Resale on the back cover. I can't recall where it came from, I must have had it unread for years:o, and obviously didn't buy it. I must make sure I check the print size each time I do buy a book in future;)

I'm been reading more books in A American's Survivalist series - Surviving Home and Escaping Home.
    Enjoyed them so much :j

Next I'm reading Wasp by Eric Frank Russell. Science fiction is a new genre for me so I have no idea if I'll like it or not
but the story sounded interesting :)

    Enjoy whatever you're reading reading.gif

I have just finished The messenger by Daniel Silva, its one of the books in the Gabriel Allon series and for me there wasn't enough action in this book of the series and was too slow. Saying that I have got the next book in the series lined up to read.

    Happy reading everyone:rotfl:
