Went on holiday last week and one of the old chazzer books I took with me (to leave there once read) was "Hide" by Lisa Gardner.
A real page turner if you like adventure/crime novels.
    Normal people worry me.

I have finished a couple recently. This one has been on my shelf for years, I have no idea why I didn't read it at the time because I love Amy Tan's work. Also why it took me over 3 weeks to read, I kept on having to flick back and reminding myself of which daughter belonged to which mother. I enjoyed it very much and I think I strung it out for as long as I could as I didn't want it to end. 8.5/10:

I read this yesterday afternoon, also 300 pages but a v quick read. Distressing subject matter, but poles apart from Amy Tan in terms of the author's skill. Readable but just 5.5/10, purely for the lack of sophistication.

It's just occurred to me, I have four of these books along the same theme stacked neatly next to each other on my bookshelf. I am always amazed when I read about how children are mistreated by their own families.

Really irked that I started a new library book, only to realize I had already read it. I do keep author lists in a a notebook, but have misplaced that memory aide.
I got out the next book in my pile...and I had read that one too. Grrrrr
Overprepare, then go with the flow.

I started making a list of books to look out for at the beginning of the year, then used Pinterest for cover recognition - easy enough to look at on the phone.

Every time I see one from the list in the chazzer I feel like I've won the bingo. My heart soars with delight :D

I loved that one. The Queenie Hennesy one is quite good, too.

Not bad for a summer read, some funny bits but a bit predictable.

  • Well the third book in the Crescent City series never got finished. It's rare that I give up on a book, but as I get on in age there are so many that I want to read it seems silly to struggle with a book I'm not that in to.

So this month has been the The Beast by J R Ward continuing the story of Rhage aka Hollywood, and Dark Promises by Christine Feehan, part of her Carpathian vampire series. Both ladies at the top of their games producing two gripping reads.

Followed that vampire fest with a very enjoyable light Regency by Julia Quinn. Because of Miss Bridgerton is the latest in a series about that family, but needs no background. Also a lighter urban fantasy by Thea Harrison, Shadows end. Another world like Crescent City where our modern world co-exists with that of the fae, vampires, elves and, in this case, dragons and associated beasts, but a much more enjoyable series.

Also read The hero, the third in the Thunder road series and now reading The chance which is the fourth.

    So many books.......mmm bliss :rotfl:
