I'm reading 'last Train to Istanbul' by Ayse Kulin. Slow start, but I'm hooked now. It's about the complexity of life in Turkey during WW2.

I've just read, in one go, 'The Story of Us', by Owen Sheers. Wow!
It's a fictional account of the script he wrote some years ago for Michael Sheen - the Passion Play set in Port Talbot over three days.

    Hello bookworms :hello:
Next I'm reading Wasp by Eric Frank Russell. Science fiction is a new genre for me so I have no idea if I'll like it or not but the story sounded interesting :)

    I really enjoyed this^^^ :)
I have tried to read a couple of science fiction books before but gave up as I found they had pages of descriptions about how
the alien/26th century (or whatever) technology worked.
The aliens in Wasp have dynocars but there is practically no explanation about them- just that they exist. Much better - my brain can't cope with technical explanations very well

    I've also read:

Forsaking Home by A American - enjoyed this as much as the previous books.

Mathews's Tale by Quintin Jardine. This is (so far at least) a stand alone book. I've read and enjoyed quite a number of his Bob Skinner books. This is a historical book set in the early 1800's. Mathew is a great character and I would love to see a follow up book.

I'm currently reading 2 books. One - a Bernie Gunther book - If the dead rise not by Philip Kerr.
Secondly I'm re-reading Moobli by Mike Tomkies.
I love and have read most of Mike's books. Moobli is the story of his dog. I intend re-reading his other books too. I'd almost forgotten how much I enjoyed reading them.

Enjoy whatever you are reading reading.gif

Edit to add: I didn't know that Turkey had enable many Jews and others, some who had the most tenuous connections with the place, to travel there on a specially organised train.
A very gripping story, based on real events, mostly unknown outside Turkey.

Quoted myself instead of editing. OoOps!

I picked this up from the library the other week. Chic-lit / non-serious fiction is not my thing, but I found this thought provoking and well-written - 8/10. It definitely challenged my perceptions about Pakistanis.

    Thanks for that, Upsidedown Bear:T.

I think I'll give Wasp a try. Like you, I'm totally put off by the long technical descriptions in SF but feel it's a genre I should get to know better.

I saw it recommended elsewhere and reserved it at the library. Should be ready to pick up next week:j
  • Hello fellow Bookwormies, may I join your group please?

I have just finished the 5th Agatha Raisin book AR and the Murderous Marriage, just an easy read, pick up, put down sort of book for inbetween other reads.

Currently reading Good Evening, Mrs Craven: The Wartime Stories of Mollie Painter-Downes and Confusion by Elizabeth Jane Howard. Both fab books, but I especially love the Cazalet novels.
Now Mrs FrugalinShropshire:T Proud to be mortgage and debt free:j
