I'm coming late to this challenge so I'll start in April.
This month, I plan to begin using what I have in my fridge, freezer and pantry and not throw anything out. (Says she who had to chuck a cuke this morning)
I think if I start patrolling the refrigerator and actually making the second meal I've planned from a roast or a chicken etc. I will be in good shape to make a budget and stick to it. This morning, I did make burrito mix for dinner tonight out of leftover roast beef, drained pinto beans, one diced baked potato, garlic and green chile.
So a no fast food and no spend day for me.Overprepare, then go with the flow.

I spent £6.33 yesterday at a couple of bargain shops . I actually got quite a lot - raisins, tea bags, thyme, potatoes, flour, face cleanser and sweetex. Have realised that it's worth going here to get things like 4 tins of tomatoes for £1. I walked away from buying carrots today as I still have two and a half left. Today we had a cheap butter bean soup for lunch and I am still using up the chicken we had roasted on Saturday. Feeling thrifty.must say NO to impulse buys!GC March Challenge £182/200
GC April Challenge £232/£175
GC May Challenge £170/£175
GC June Challenge £175

OH away this week so spend so far is £78.87. Didn't get round to grocery shop till yesterday! So this total consists of lots of little shops plus one larger one of of £45.73. Should be OK to stick to budget this month BUT history shows I shouldn't take that for granted or I will blow it badly in the last week!!
Meals this week: spag bol & HM garlic bread; chicken fillets n chips for kids and bargain smoked haddock for me (£1.36 for a bit of fish reduced from almost £4) with roast veg; chilli tonight; pizzas tomorrow; making the rest up as I go alongGC Feb 2019 (to 10th) £397.07/£3000 -
Spent £14.52 so far, so have 42p left for a cucumber
Still have enough ingredients for quite a few meals - I am surprised that I actually can eat healthy and tasty food on so little money... But definitely stocking up on pay day (Friday)!
I have read some stories of what it is like to be poor/hungry - that helped me appreciate food more and get into frugal mentality instead of wasting pounds here and there.0 -
Had a good dig aound in the tinned stuff cupboards and found five tins of tuna that I didn't realise were at the back of the cupboards, plus several tins of sweetcorn,no prizes for guessing whats on the menu this coming week:):)
Also found a bottle of bleach in the cupboard under the sink so thats been crossed off the shopping list
At the moment I only have UHT milk and eggs on the list and I have enough to last until the weekend0 -
nsd yesterday, yippee!!0
