Two aisle ram packed - it was a bit chaotic and defo peeps not buying for themselves but to sell on - missed out on the lovely wicker hamper...they were flying out and almost missed out on Jack Wills back pack bag - there was one sitting on its own up an aisle so grabbed that- hubby has enough shower gel and deodorant for the year got a few nice presents for next christmas - all in all very please for first time and even hubby seemed to enjoy it! 59.55 spent that I wasn't expecting to spend but hey ho!

2nd shop got there just as they were opening at 9, much larger queue than in previous years waiting to get in, and fairly chaotic in the 3 small aisles of sale stuff, but I got what was on my list then got out (with difficulty as people were stopping everywhere in the middle of the shop thoroughfares going through their baskets).
  • Stopped at the Chelmsford, Essex (High Chelmer) store this morning. I don't do the queue up for the doors opening but arrive 5 minutes after opening.

It was quite full, things just flying off the shelves. Stock was lower this year that previous ones going into it, even the socks/slippers seemed to be fewer. A few people seemed to just be targeting certain things and had a stack of 10-15 of that item. Most seemed to be buying for themselves or as gifts, so only had 1-2 of an item. Boots had staff nearby handing out the blue shopping bags and helping people as needed.

There was an older fellow, seemed his wife dragged him along for the first time. As he came around the corner I heard, 'are you serious?!?' as he saw the mass volume of ladies. He got into the swing of things and was giving people a giggle with his comments.

A handful came in with small children, guessing after the school drop off they had the younger children still with them. Fortunately Chelmsford is pretty calm. We did have to step around the young one who planted herself in the middle of the sale aisle shouting 'I want something, I want something!' repeatedly.

There were still some large Sanctuary boxes left, I skipped those and bought the £20 one as I prefer the products to the candles. They had plenty of the small Sanctuary tins. The S&G big box was still available as were smaller sets such as Laura Ashley. There were Jack Wills items available too.

I mainly use the sale as a stock up for toiletries we'll use during the year. OH uses Lynx so picked up a few of those sets. He's not fussy on shower gel etc. so got some of the Boots Extract box sets. At a discounted price of £3 for a full size shower gel, scrub and body butter it's on par with the £land shops, but nice to have some variety. We'll be smelling like wild strawberry in the coming months. :rotfl:

Bought one of the men's nice razor/shave gel sets. I have been known to borrow OH's while on hols, so thought I may as well get my own. Let's see how that tackles leg hair lol.

Oh, and a remote controlled helicopter. OH is 44 this year and we don't have kids although most of our friends do so we keep some toys/crafts around. £25 down to 7.50.

I heard one of the managers saying that they were expecting almost everything to be gone by 2. I suspect it will be picked clean by the local office folks on their lunch hour. In prior years they were still bringing out cages of stock and putting it in the sale area, this year, nothing extra. When I walked through yesterday the shelves were not jam packed, in some cases there were only a few of an item.

At the til two young lads were having a great time interacting with the customers as they rang them up. It was nice to see them in good spirits. Boots had all the tils staffed so the queue moved quickly as I finished at 9. Total spend: £45.

.... And then onto vic centre Nottingham, which I have avoided completely on sale day for the last 4 or 5 years. Shop opened at 8, I was there at 9.30, and clearly there were still whole groups of folk who had been there since opening and still hadn't checked out - piles of stuff in corners/behind pillars being guarded by one person while their friends went back and forth to the shelves for more.
It was madness - I shudder to think what it was like just after opening time! Loads of empty/rifled gift sets, staff trying to clear sections of shelving to start putting out suncream and baby stuff were just dumping random gift sets into their packing trolleys at the ends of aisles.
I,m glad I went to my smaller stores first.

Headed to Leicester Fosse Park around 8.30 and there was already quite a big queue, it easily turned into 100+ people waiting. People were using trolleys from nearby M&S, which then proceeded to block up every aisle as they were browsing. It was fairly manic (pushing/shoving etc) and although I didn't get everything I wanted I still got some nice things, large S&G set, slippers, PJs, extracts, over the moon sets and a nice chopping board. Also met a couple of nice ladies in the queue.

Was really disappointed with the website. Last year I was able to put things into my basket the night before then just checkout the next morning. But this year at 3am I couldn't get anything to add as it was all OOS.

Just finished at Boots in Taunton. I couldn't stomach going at open this year so went after school run. Got there about 9:30 expecting shelves to be picked clean. However there was still loads left, and spread out all over rather than jammed on a few aisles as last year. Lots of surprise endcaps etc. Managed to get the toys I wanted except for Clangers stuff (I go mainly for the toys for my daughter and bday party gifts). Loads of S&G, Champneys, mens stuff left. Lots of food as well which was a surprise. Managed to spend about £40 but will probably go back over the next few days for returns, if last year is to be repeated.

I am really impressed with Balletshoes dedication here. Well done. Hope you got everything you wanted :)
Love reading peoples stories! Keep them coming! :)
  • I usually drive to my nearest big town to go to the 'super Boots' But memories of recent years trolley shoving and shelf sweeping really thought I couldn't face it! So wandered in to my local smallish Boots and their were LOADS of S&G sets, Sanctuary, Champney baskets, men's stuff, Laura Ashley boxes - so quite a bit of big stuff - and some bits and pieces - it wasn't very busy at all when I arrived - all very civilised, staff lovely - really quick through the till and I was happy. It's fab if you can get a few special things in the big stores, but I'm ok that I didn't do that this year - I actually bought quite a bit at 50% off this year of the things I really liked and I really didn't mind. I must be getting old!

We went to the Grimsby store (Freshney place) and arrived just after opening...... It was heaving and there was probably half as much as usual. Everyone was really polite though, handing other people things. People were filling their bags and leaving them to one side and going back in with no fear of anyone pinching things, and the usual couple of men standing guard whilst the women went back in for more. :D

I managed to get most of what I wanted, I got the big champneys/sanctuary sets, smaller S&G sets, home fragrance bits, superdry makeup, headphones, and stocking fillers and bits for birthdays through the year.

By 9am the shelves were pretty much empty.

We nipped into our local boots on the way home and stumbled across Champneys crackers that hadn't been there yesterday (and I'd really wanted) so I'm pretty pleased overall. :)

I haven't unpacked yet, but I haven't over spent (mainly because I didn't do online this year). so it's all good. :)

I too went to Fosse park in Leicester and got the few things I wanted.n I went to Fosse park this year as last year I went to Leicester town centre boots which was like a free for all and people were pushing and shoving. Fosse park was better ( but I wasn't there for the first 20 mins) and people were nicer EXCEPT the amount people were taking was awful.....some people had two trollies full! I saw a local family (husband wife and dd1) each with three massive massive amounts each......what on earth do they do with this stuff?....I would be ashamed of myself for taking this amount:(:(:(:( we all like a bargain but this was just plain greedy
