  • Mumof2, hugs. I admire you for putting so much effort into making this relationship work but when he says things like that I worry. As Pigpen says maybe some outside help is needed. I do agree that you cant make people get rid of stuff that they think has value, no matter how frustrating it is.

We are clearing the shed and greenhouse so I am doing a lot of gritting of teeth. DH isnt a hoarder exactly but he doesnt like throwing things out and he is very very untidy.

I have made soup and hm bread for lunch which seems to have created a lot of mess. Oh and it has finally stopped raining so I have hung some washing out.

Right, best get back outside and help DH before it gets dark. Last chance to do this before the skip is collected.

I have a question for you lovely ladies (and gents if there's any!) How do you keep organised and on top of things? My house right now is a total mess, it's embarrassing :rotfl:

I don't.. I do what I can and spend half my life flinging stuff out and selling stuff we no longer need.. outgrown clothes are the bane of my life! I have 4 cupboards to sort through for outgrown stuff at the moment.. so I'm sat here :p

I MUST get the girls room sorted this week it is terrible with their Christmas stuff just thrown in cardboard boxes and stashed in their rooms.. I might do an hour when OH comes down tbh.. before I cave and get my knitting out :p

anyone up for a very lazy HHC until 3:45??? I have loads to do and am just sat here..

  • Hello all.

Just typed a big long post and it disappeared.

    I'll start again.

Hugs mumof2, you sound like you're going through the mill at the moment, do what you need to do to keep your mental health in tact. OH's sister is a hoarder, and in every other way a lovely, rational and sane person. If we try to help with the hoarding, she shuts down. I think some sort of counselling is usually needed to get to the cause.

CY sending lots of healthy vibes your way, I'm really sorry you're feeling bad, wish I could make you feel better xx

We had a light dusting of snow this morning, so kids decided they wanted to find more, so we had a drive up to higher ground. Ended up at Malham and walked up to the Cove with the dog . Everyone got wet, cold and muddy, especially kids who felt the need to make snow /mud angels etc.

Now home with about three loads of muddy washing to get through. So, am off to do that, plus decorating, which has been on my list all week but have not done any xx

Ps harley personally I don't really keep on top of things, but the thread helps me not sink right to the bottom! I just have a basic list of daily essentials that I must try and do, eg washing, dishwasher etc. If I have spare time I then do some bits from the lists, usually the stuff that most needs doing.

TBH.. I'd have binned them without a word.. a living creature is hardly the same as a pile of rotting paper.

Do you want to go to relate? Do you think they will help?? in my experience they don't counsel, they mediate.. if you don't want to go say no.. and don't ever forget that sometimes we have to admit we tried and our best was not good enough.. and he appears to be the one with MH issues, you are being perfectly rational and reasonable he is not, not at all.

Wise words indeed from Pigpen. My DH has all his Uni textbooks from 1982-1988. He won't get rid, although I have thinned the collection over the years. They are currently in a drawer under our bed. Even DD1, who works for a charity shop, told him they would be recycle, not sold. cos they were out of date.

A year ago we had a new fireplace installed and we sorted everything on the shelves. I recycled loads. He gave up naff all. When \I feel better some of his stuff is going....

I have 4 binbags to go to DD1's place. But the warehouse she runs had to stop taking donations on Saturday cos they were full.

Aww CY maybe it's just tiredness from getting back to work? Do get in touch with the horsepiddle to put your mind at rest though xx

Mumof2 I agree with pigpen, you sound perfectly reasonable. Some personalities (that have their own MH issues) are very good at making others feel it is them with the problems. Had this between my parents for years :( changes need to be made but this will only happen with two willing parties xxx

harley I'm generally not organise for the first half of the week - I'm juggling paid stuff, school runs and childcare, clubs etc and now college too. And trying to eat healthily - well I'm currently sorting packed breakfast, lunch and dinner for the next 2 days plus making sure PE kits are packed, homework is done, etc etc... It never works out how my mind hopes it will be. Kids might end up with cereal for tea one night :o

New swim lessons began today - they were awesome! Both loved it, loads of time in the water and loads of fun and I actually saw them swim rather than sitting on the blimmin side, lol.

Waiting for Mr S delivery now so I've tidied and wiped the fridge, ready for that, and I've got my laptop bag and their school bags ready.

Uniform is all clean, hurrah, so it's just a case of getting tea and off to bed!

    Phew!

Lovely to hear about the baby shower, frizzle :)

  • Just want to say thank you for setting up such a great page. I haven't followed every day - although gave it a jolly good go - nor have I posted each day to let you know what I have and haven't done but last night I realised just what I have got done.

We had friends over last night and that usually involves me panicking and desperately cleaning the house from top to bottom whilst stuffing things in cupboards never to be seen again. Yesterday was different - a couple of hours in the morning and the house was done, ready for people to visit - whoop whoop - it meant we were all very relaxed when people came to visit which made for a really enjoyable evening. Within 15 minutes of the last guest leaving we had everything into one room, chairs back in the correct places and the dishwasher was on. First thing this morning I emptied the dishwasher, restacked it again and we started to think about having everyone back again next month.

Sundays are usually spent running around the house, sorting washing, finding ironing, scrubbing the kitchen etc - today I've made Sunday lunch, finished a little ironing and now we're watching DVDs.
  • Harley I am a big believer in little and often when it comes to cleaning. As soon as I get out of the shower I grab a cleaning wipe and swish the bathroom, I always dry up and put everything away after tea, I run round the whole house with the carpet sweeper every morning. Things like that take a few minutes but make a big difference over time.

Like Pigpen says the one big thing that has changed my life is decluttering. It sounds a bit over the top but having less stuff means you can put things away, which means cleaning is a doddle. I can now find things easily and my life feels so much better organised. Have a look at the Kon-Marie thread for inspiration.

Hope you are feeling OK CY, you have done so well. Maybe you have just overdone it a bit?

Poohspals glad this is working for you, it really makes a difference. And if you get a week where everything goes a bit pear shaped you can easily get things straight again.

We have filled the skip to the brim. No idea where it all came from really but the shed does look tidier.

Feet up now, everyone fed with hm pizza, kitchen tidied, bit of clean washing to put away but I will do that before bed.

Oh and Bossy glad the swimming lessons went well. Both of mine gave up as soon as they could swim enough to save themselves and even now they dont really enjoy it. Then again I am not a great one for swimming so not a good role model!
