She didn't do anything.... They both got her pregnant under these circumstances. She is only 17 and obviously either still in education or just left so there is no track record of being a lazy benefit scrounger as some seem to be trying to make her out to be...Chances are she is just a girl who has got pregnant young who will go on to be a hard working member of society... Give the girl a blinking chance to find her feet, it can be done with or without a baby.

So house his family himself! Except he can't.

The whole thread would be moot if they were self supporting as you tirelessly keep suggesting.

He is looking at the options open to them, what's wrong with that? Should social housing only be available to the older generation?

Sometimes there's only one thing for it.....

    :wall:
  • The point is that despite the fact he works (well done!) they have a child on the way and no where to live.

Which means that our taxes will ultimately pay for b&b, a local authority house or whatever / wherever they end up.

Some posters may not mind this: however I have only ever done things I can afford to do with my own money, which is why I resent giving my own money to other people.

    And it won't end well...!

I can see your point. Although I bet you would not want to live in a country that does not have similar redistribution system..
The word "dilemma" comes from Greek where "di" means two and "lemma" means premise. Refers usually to difficult choice between two undesirable options.
Often people seem to use this word mistakenly where "quandary" would fit better.

Your making rather a lot of assumptions.... if they go into temp accommodation the OP will have to pay, even for a grotty B&B....if she goes in alone with a baby she will get help....Isn't this what the benefit system is for or should they just snuff out a life just to appease the baying tax payers?
How do you know she won't contribute in the future, she may even put your tax contributions to shame, as will their child...

'It won't end well' ....it may just end better than your life has!
  • There is no easy solution, apart from keeping your c*** in your trousers or taking a pill every day.

No one has a 'right' to do something which someone else has to pay for, this includes bringing a child into the world.

If you can afford to do something, and it's legal, and you want to do it, go ahead: but I don't want to contribute if you can't afford to do it, thank you.

Yes indeed their life may well turn out better than mine, one cannot predict the future. However how my life has turned out has been entirely financed by me, and that's how it should be

It's as certain as the alternative view.

The child could also find a cure for cancer.

Edit - as could the mother of course!

Yes, you're right, the children of single mothers never achieve anything, certainly not if their mums were teenagers when they had them!
