Some really great meal ideas. Thanks everyone :T
  • Minihauk- I've made a lovely imitation quiche/fritatta thing using polenta before: suitable for the coeliac, but could also be adapted to make vegan. Mix up fine meal polenta as per packet instructions, then mix in filling (I use leftover cheese, roasted leftover veg, spinach, sometimes leftover meat) and bake in 180 degree oven for 25 mins.

Been a busy week this week, but have roughly kept on track.

Minimise: went to a workshop and then an event at work on Thursday, and somehow came home with 3 loaves of bread, about 40 apples, 2 platters of pre-made sandwiches, 2 brownies, 3 large cookies, a tub of muscavado sugar, and a few tubs of spices all for free as it would have been binned otherwise! It's minimizing my food budget this week! :D

Make do: last night's dinner was a (surprisingly tasty) casserole made from a bunch of items we had in that would have never been eaten alone / were about to go off!

Mend: haven't had a chance to do any mending, having worked a 50 hour week! But this weekend I plan to sew up the hole that opened in my favourite black trousers. I can get a few more years out of then yet!!

I've managed to mend some holes in DGS's jumper, I think it may have got caught in DD's tumble drier.

I'm still minimising my yarn stash by making squares for my blanket.

I made do for meals all week, hubby was on the late shift so ate up stuff from the fridge.
    Chin up, Titus out.
  • Morning all.
Minimising budget: On Wednesday I went in to town to do a comparison on toiletries. We buy the same toothpaste, shower gel, mouthwash and shampoo so I thought I would try to find out who was cheaper: Wilkinsons, Savers, Home Bargains, Bodycare. And the winner is... Bodycare:T I couldn't believe the differences in prices. Sometimes there was a difference amounting to pounds not pennies. Wilkinsons, which I had always thought of as reasonable, came out as the most expensive.
Well we had a lovely day out on Thursday in York thanks to a rail offer. We went to see the Flying Scotsman at the National Railway Museum for free and then to York Castle museum, which wasn't. They didn't offer concessions for senior citizens either which surprised us. However, they did let DD1 in for half price because she was under 25.
More minimising today as I intend to sort through some more drawers in the my bedroom.
    Have a good day everyone.

I take a look online at offers for MrM's if I'm going near by and will make a list of items which are a good price and only buy those on my list and look in the YS section. I've laughed today andrex classic white toilet rolls packs of 18 for £7 or packs of 9 for £3 doh lmao. x
Why pay full price when you may get it YS ;)

Vegans do not eat meat, fish or dairy, also watch out for such things as gelatin as it comes from an animal source.

A true vegetarian will not eat fish. As for the coeliac they may not be sensitive to gluten so ask what they can eat.

Always the way isn't it HOWMUCH. I stick to YS and don't buy offers very often. There bu88ers for putting something up for a few weeks somewhere and then saying it is on offer at 10p more than it was last week.

When I have some of the more expensive things to buy I tend to take a look at My supermarket to see what offers are going. Makes sense for washing powder/liquid, butter etc.
Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle

  • Make do - freezer tea.

Mend - no mending, but dutifully continuing my crochet, though conceding that 4 blankets in a year will be pushing it...

    Minimise - none today.

I have a good knowledge of prices of things and will only purchase when they are at the right price, this goes for everything. My next bottle of washing up liquid is Aldee own as recommended by JackieO @ 89p a litre, she said she was previously a fairy girl which I am so I'm giving it a try. Toothpaste I get from home bargains Colgate @ 49p 75ml.
I'm still knitting the baby bunting, fingers permitted it will be finish in the next couple of days. I've been troubled with arthritis in my joints. x
