Make do, Mend and Minimise in 2016

Away on holidays and still managing to MMM .
Making do with using the toiletries miniatures I have collected over the last couple of years and NOT using or hoarding the ones provided by the hotel this time.
Mending - I have managed to mend oh's jumper with the miniature sewing kit here.
Minimising. I deliberately wore a tired, slightly holed vest top on the plane here. It's been washed with oh's jeans too so it's a pale grey/blue rather than white. And I popped it in the bin, and it's gone. I have found it so hard to get rid of it, even to the rag bag, no idea why as it wasn't an attractive thing to wear anymore. But by popping it in the bin and going out meant I couldn't retrieve it at a later date. Sometimes a little help is needed!
Hope you are all keeping warm
S x£400,000 starting Jan 2020 current end date Aug 2041 I would love the end date to be 2027 but will aim first for 2037.
1% target £4000 so far £20 paid0 -
Lollyfin I stopped buying books about a year ago in favour of the library (although my current book is actually borrowed from the staff room at work) although I still buy the kids books for birthday/Christmas and there is the odd book that I will buy, that I know I will re-read - eagerly awaiting the 3rd in The Passage trilogy by Justin Cronin - I often dip into the second one (my copy of the first one has been on loan for over a year!)
Not much MMMing here, been at work all week and been headachey and tired.
It was World Book Day today at school. DS2 went in the Harry Potter outfit I bought him for Hallowe'en (had previously cobbled one together but was looking tatty). DD had cats ears and tail from Hallowe'en to go with black leggings and top, I remembered the story of Gobbolino the Witches Cat from the Storyteller Cassettes and books my sister used to have (only remember it because it scared the heck out of me when I was little :rotfl: ) so added a black sock to one hand and a white to the other and showed her a Gobbolino story on YouTube in case she was quizzed on it! Then discovered the cats ears have disappeared so I cut in half the little bow-tie that came with the outfit and fashioned them into ears on a plastic headband - not perfect but did the trick.
DS1 wanted to go as a character from the Jurassic World movie - I discovered it's been novelised for kids so counts as a book for me! Did a mad dash round TK Maxx (I wasn't the only one last minute WBD shopping either!) bought him a shirt for £9.99 and a jacket for the same, which I cut the arms off (was too small anyway but the body fits ok as he's skinny). So £20, but since I have 3 kids I think I got off lightly ;)also it's "proper" clothes that he will be able to wear again, and he's in love with the costume and wants to wear it every day!
Flaked out on the sofa last night meaning I didn't make myself lunch for today and had to spend out at the local independent coffee shop instead  But have got leftover chicken and rice from fajitas for tomorrow.
Because of eating at BILs Sunday and birthday party on Monday, plus forgetting I'd stashed some cooked meatballs in sauce in the freezer a few weeks ago, I only need lunch stuff and food for 3 meals when I go food shopping tomorrow :T The big bag of rice I've been using for months is finally dwindling to perhaps needing replaced.
No mending but using up some yarns crocheting a blanket for a friends little girl, just a granny stripe, she'd sent me a picture of one with hearts and I tried twice but they looked like fans, I couldn't get it (am still somewhat a novice).Mummy to 3

I mended a pair of my son's jeans today (hole in the knee). Spent ages looking for a needle, so I think sorting out the craft drawer needs to be on my to do list! Not sure my repair will last, but he's nearly grown out of those jeans so if he gets a few more wears out of them it'll be worth it.0

Jackie- could you point in the direction of the chick pea recipe-I would love to use it too! Thank you
(from Candygirl who PM'd me the recipe) and I just threw a few things extra in that I had at the bottom of my fridge)
<Quote from Candygirl> I just fry an onion with a tsp of minced garlic n chilli, then add a tin of chopped tomatoes, a couple of spuds, n a tinof chick , peas n a 2 tblsps of garam masala or curry powder n simmer.it works for me, but you might need to add or reduce seasoning xxx>>
I also chucked several odds and ends from the spice and herb rack in as well and a good dollop of chilli sauce. It was delicious and spicy (very warming on a cold night ):):)

Morning all
Quick question - is it ok to freeze double cream? I have half a pot which I don't think I will get a chance to use up so thought I would stick it in the freezer but not sure if it will go funny.
Tea last night was cauliflower and broccoli bake, I also had some YS asparagus with mine which was lovely. There's heaps left so OH will have that tonight and tomorrow night while I'm at work (lucky he doesn't mind eating the same thing three nights in a row)
Hope everyone has a good day, better get myself in the shower and get organised for work.Mortgage 26.4.25 - £108,500 1.9.25 - £106,033.77

I loved Gobbolino when I was a kid. I only got rid of my storyteller cassettes (and I had both complete series!) when my daughter was born and our cassette player broke. Really regretting it now but I found a book which is the whole collection of stories during a book club. It took me right back to the late 80s and laying on my bed listening to the latest tape and reading the books that went with it. I can't believe the complete sets sell for over £50 and some people are asking for £100s
MMM is not much here. I'm in the process of adding new velcro to my mop heads so they'll stay on when in use! Swiffer mops are great, but the blooming covers are driving me barmy coming off all the time.Creeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!0 -
Morning all! Busy day yesterday as its my voluntary morning (teaching ladies how to use their phones/tablets/laptops at my local Age Concern) managed to get a load into the WM before I went. Nipped to the sorting office when I got home to pick up a small parcel. I have a new neighbour opposite me who is a gardener so I've managed to spend an hour clearing out some of my greenhouse and given him some trays and a pile of pots. Still need to clear out more though.
Lovely and sunny here at the moment but cold. DH & I going to do a bit more work on the boat before she goes back in the water in a few weeks. He's polishing the hull, I'm sanding woodwork down before oiling. I decided that varnish was too fiddly and time consuming & the oil looks nice anyway. Trying to keep everything simple!
Have a good day all xSmall victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
Good morning all.
I've been reading along, but not posting as been busy.
I am hosting three students next week and would welcome some help from you all with recipes as one is vegetarian, one is coeliac and the last one "should" eat anything. I really don't want to have to cook three different meals each day, and have to supply lunches too. Salads for lunch should be ok, but I am really stuck for ideas (apart from JackieO's chickpea recipe which should be ok for all three!)
Help please?
Thanks0
