Make do: learning a new skill.... My dds have half African hair, which tangles incredibly. With the help of tinterwebs I have taught myself how to take care of it, and now I am teaching myself new hairstyles. Today, for the very first time, I managed to put six cornrows (similar to French braids) in dd4y's hair. Her hair tangles less and is less curly then my eldest dd's, so my youngest has to suffer while I train myself, before I tackle my eldest's hair. Prices I have seen at the local African salon range from £30 up.Are you wombling, too, in '22? € 58,96 = £ 52.09Wombling in Restrictive Times (2021) € 2.138,82 = £ 1,813.15Wombabeluba 2020! € 453,22 = £ 403.842019's wi-wa-wombles € 2.244,20 = £ 1,909.46Wombling to wealth 2018 € 972,97 = £ 879.54Still a womble 2017 #25 € 7.116,68 = £ 6,309.50Wombling Free 2016 #2 € 3.484,31 = £ 3,104.590

My best friend's daughter is half Nigerian, so she's going through this too. Her hair is quite soft but utterly unruly, so my friend is learning how to braid in an effort to save on high salon costs. I, on the other hand have two sons with hair like they've stuck their fingers in a socket, so they get a mowing with the clippers.0 -
Evening all
Think those of you with a knitting/crochet talent who use their time and wool stashes for charity are just marvelous :A
At the moment I dont have the time or talent - but maybe its something I could develop once I properly retire??? !!!
FunBrum - you said in one of your posts that you had not done very much MM&M that day - I dont think it matters if its only a little bit - as a well known slogan goes 'every little helps' - if its good enough for the big boys then I guess its good enough for us! :rotfl:
Well, yesterday I had to go over to DS1 with his birth certificate (he needs it to open a business bank account) and did not get home till 11.30 - I was really hungry so I minimised some chip shop chips I had frozen and some YS bread to make a chip butty sandwhich! Oh so yum! Oh so not on the diet! But good MM&M as previously I would have visited a late night drive through and spent any where from £3 - £6!!!
Today I have minimised some veg and the last of the roast beef and the remains of a bottle of Mei KwiLu (Chinese Liqueur) by making a stirfry from stuff in house - so one bottle less in the place!
In the interests of tidying up/de cluttering/ minimising I was forced to eat the last 4 After 8s from Christmas this evening as well:rotfl:
So all was making do as well! Also made do today with wrapping meself in a blanket and listening to the radio as a treat for myself as I ended up with an unexpected free hour (a cancelled clientsuch a luxury to have such time to myself.
Nite allAim for Sept 17: 20/30 days to be NSDs  NSDs July 23/31 (aim 22) :j

Thanks for posting this Lyn - I wasn't going to bother posting tonight as I don't feel I've done anything really MMM to add to the thread, however, as you say every little bit of MMMing counts
So yesterday I went to buy some groceries, I only really went in to get some gf porridge oats (porridge is my staple breakfast at the moment) and some dips to go with fajitas last night but they had 5 packs of YS gf rolls at 59p each so I snapped them all up. Now in the freezer for use at a later date. Tea tonight was nachos to use the dips (although slightly burnt nachos as my sister phoned half way through cooking, still tasted fine).
Still haven't made a start on minimising the bookcasein fact OH now laughs every time I mention it. I think he's convinced I'll never quite get round to doing it.
Mortgage 26.4.25 - £108,500 1.9.25 - £106,033.77

Mortgage overpayments so far - £738.970 -
Candygirl the chickpea curry was delicious and I threw a few odds and ends in lurking at the bottom of the fridge as well I also diced up a tin of potatoes to give it some oomph
and bulk and some sad looking mushrooms.I kept adding a bit of this and a dash of that from different things in the herbs and spice rack and a dollop of sweet chilli sauce that was the tail end of a bottle which I splashed a bit of water into to get the last bit out
No waste in my house
:):) I ended up with five delicious portions ,four of which are now in the freezer for other meals later at some point and one I ate last night. So I costed it out and I think I have managed to make around five portions for less than a quid as DD gave me the dented tins of chick peas and chopped tomatoes in the first place I still have around 10 tins in the cupboards so I shall be eating my way through them for the next few months
Still keep the shopping bills down and it really was very tasty.

Thanks jackieO I've been on the bookworms thread and it's great for recommendations and I've read some brilliant books others have posted about.
Minimising dirt here today. The weather is getting so much nicer and it's lovely to see the sun out but wow is it showing up the yuck I missed over the winter so it's cleaning walls and skirting boards for me.
Not much making do, apart from food, or mending tho I'm sure I will find something if I look hard enoughkonMarie and fabbing all the way
Weight loss challenge starting 11st loss in November 4lb0 -
Good afternoon everyone I went out for some milk(I buy 12pints at a time £2.58 Aldee) I needed some sliced bread. I've loads of bread cakes bought YS at 5p for 4 but no good for toast. I managed to get a mama and papas tummy time toy for expected GC £1.50 like new, these are £19.95 in the shop but I got my bargain from the local hospice shop. DD is very pleased with my make do and minimising spend.
I'm on the last piece of knitting for the baby bunting, also watching some of the very first midsummer murders.
Hope everyone is fine xWhy pay full price when you may get it YS0 -
Haven't posted for a while as we had an unexpected family bereavement and had to travel to Licolnshire for the funeral.
Apart from that have finally finished minimising my wool stash. Sorted through it ruthlessly, kept three skeins piled the rest into carrier bags and CS'd it. Now I have an empty cupboard!!
Was going to eat out last night but made do with pasta and freezer special tomato sauce, added three chopped mushrooms and half a red pepper destined for the compost bucket.
Mended a CS jumper by sewing a button on it - there was a spare button sewn to the jumper label. I ant understand why people don't mend clothes? Only takes a minute to sew a button on. Ah well! Their loss is my gain0 -
Afternoon all
Minimised the book collection by giving away three books today.
Will make do with something from the fridge/cupboards for tea tonight
I made a start on a dress yesterday, it's all cut out and part sewn together, I'm hoping to finish it over the weekend.
Have a lovely evening all.SPC~12 ot 124
