    Hiya

My title might seem a bit strange but I heard a very though provoking article on Radio 4 where a lady who had lost several babies was saying how sad Mother's Day made her. :( It was very heartfelt and made me stop and think about my blithe habit of greeting everyone - one should not assume (it makes an !!! out of u and me!)

I still have dreadful cold - although I am only sneezing every half hour now!!! So I could to go over to DS1 and partner who had preped a special meal for the Nannies (i.e. her Mum and me) :( Apart from a quick trip to L!dil (I needed loo roll) I have sat on sofa merrily sneezing and barking away!!! :( Have bought a reduced chicken from L!dil and will make chicken soup to morrow so that should help heal???? :)

squeezedmillennial - yep I miss conferences, meetings et al when I used to come home with trays of sanis that would get gobbled up by the hoards (my boys + their mates!) So much waste goes on at these things tho???

Yes Jackie O you are right - Mrs CD - 'stairs' crumble is the nick name my boys gave to pear and apple crumble from the cockney rhyming slang apples and pears = stairs :rotfl: IT always makes folk smile!!
Make do - a repeat meal of leek & potato dauphinouise + broccoli which was made from ingredients already in and will do yet another day (it is a dish that does not freeze well)
Minimise - the amount of sneezing :rotfl: but also washing up pile from yesterday
    Mend - me hopefully!!
    Nite all
Aim for Sept 17: 20/30 days to be NSDs  NSDs July 23/31 (aim 22) :j

Nurse Maggie, I take my knitted items to a local church where they are boxed up and collected.
Going to attempt to sort out my saucepan cupboard this morning, a job long overdue and then being treated to a lunch by youngest son. He is a chef so of course was working yesterday

    Morning all.
Lynn I agree with the title and sentiment of your post title. Mothers/Father's Day can be very difficult for some, we aren't all lucky enough to have both our parents (or in some cases it can be a very strained or difficult relationship) or there can be losses of children that the day brings back to the surface.
Hugs to anyone who found the day difficult and I hope everyone who did celebrate it had a lovely time.

Going to do some more on the dress I'm making today and have a look through the bag of Tshirts dd2 has asked me to make into a quilt/throw for her.

    Have a good day all.

Hi new to all this but I seem to have lost a post, forgive me if it appears twice. Went to try out a newly opened Aldi not far away and bought carrots and celery from their super six offer. Part of today will be making celery soup and carrot and coriander soup. Hope to complete some knitting tonight. I knit for a charity called Samaritans purse and I have been given a huge bag of wool by a friend. That wool looks at me accusingly every time I open the cupboard door!
Poppy How do you send your stuff to Samaritans Purse? I'd love to do some knitting for them. I used to do the boxes when Ds was at school and then I found a church that did them so I just used to donate toys.

I gave up when we moved away and at the same time my arthritis was making it difficult to knit I gave up for years and then I tried knitting again a couple of years ago and have been knitting again ever since.

Hi, just a flyby to confirm Samaritan's Purse is a wonderful charity and love what you are doing/are intending to do...never even thought of something like that. Not that I have the talent. Just dropping by to say you can also nominate them to receive funds via your online shopping. E.G. donations of 1.5% when selecting to go via link to Amazon or other retailers from creating an email account with Give as you Live. https://www.giveasyoulive.com/

I signed up using a secondary email account, and can confirm that it's been over a year now and I do not receive any unwanted or erroneous emails. Just the odd summary of funds accrued to date.
  • Hi, I have been a lurker just browsing through all of the pages, may I join your lovely group. I am registered disabled and moving into my own warden run flat in a few months. I need to save as much money as I can throughout the year and live as frugally as possible. I have just posted a load of things to sell on eb@y and have been sorting through all of my things as I need to minimise as much as I can. I have two bags ready to go to the charity shop, mostly books and clothes.

Lunch today was jacket potato and the last if the sour cream from two nights ago chilli, I added the last of the chopped salad that was starting to turn too. Tea tonight is sausage casserole from the freezer made from a few weeks ago batch cooking.

Just minimised the last of some bacon, ds1 rang to let me know a gig he's got tonight had been brought forward so I did him star is to go for his tea, he's just flown in for his guitar music and a clean shirt after work then rushed off to the bus stop.

Nursemaggie, Samaritans Purse collect shoeboxes in October, so if you check the Operation Christmas Child website around then, you can find out where your local collection points are and donate the hats there. They should also be able to collect if you can't get to the warehouse.

Just a point to mention - they can't take homemade toys any more, due to customs rules. Everything has to have the ce Mark on the label.
There are some patterns on the website for glove puppets and hats etc.

Someone suggested to minihauk egg, beans and chips for her students, so that's what we've had for tea, and really enjoyed it. :) It's ages since I had a fried egg!

Hope you feel better soon, Lynplatinum. The cold went after a week or so, but the cough is still hanging on. I just wish I had some energy to do something.
