Thank you everyone for the lovely welcome
I am so glad I have stopped lurking and posted finally.
What I thought was bacon in the fridge has, this morning, turned out to be cooked ham, so MrO will be making do with scrambled eggs for breakfast instead of his usual Sunday baconAnd I shall be emptying the fridge, making a list of what we actually have in it and trying to work out how to use it all up.
Celery soup will have to be made, and there are peppers that can be sliced and frozen but I'm ashamed to say that I'm not really sure what else may be lurking at the back.
This thread is brilliant and will really help me to get back on track after being derailed by illness last year. Thank you all again0 -
Welcome Cappella
. I retired in October and love the fact that I will never have to get up for work again but emotionally it's quite a transition that I am still getting used to. I also was a long time lurker but am enjoying posting now rather than just reading.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY JACKIE O :bdaycake:
I have always enjoyed reading your posts - have a great day.
It's a horrible wet and windy day here so will just have a lazy day in the house minimising the wool as usual
Have a nice day xxDebt free - Mortgage free - Work free ( in that order)

Has anybody made lettuce soup? I've got 2 little gem lurking, DH hasn't eaten them and I don't eat lettuce
...ideas please! There is some bendy celery so it may end up as green soup, and is made will be DHs lunches this week
I have some bits & pieces of hems, buttons & things to do while listening to the rugby (can't watch & sew!), and am slowly working my way through the overfull wardrobe to leave clothes that suit, fit & that I will wear
DH is away from after lunch until mid-afternoon tomorrow, so will make do with toast for tea.2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

Sadly there is unlikely to be any mending or minimising here today as am in bed with cold, looking at DS's old coat which still needs half a zip sewing in (one side done, but cannot seem to get round to the other side, I find zips so fiddly) and the pile of his last year's school trousers which need making into school shorts for summer.
Will make do with yesterday's left over spaghetti primaveri (from Gino's pasta book) for lunch - it was meant to be tagliatelli primaveri but no tagliatelli in the house so made do with spaghetti. Also used white onions (purchased by my mother YS, 10p for 3) instead of red onions as stated in recipe. Cooking is where I do a lot of making do, using what I have in or what's cheaper instead of the proper ingredients, e.g. onions instead of shallots etc and it never seems to make any difference to the taste.0 -
Floss if you google lettuce soup one from Riverford comes up my friend has made it and she says it's nice.
Happy birthday JackieO
Made do, I've got a kilo of stewing steak with 2 packets of veg from my YS purchases last night, so the whole lot has cost £4.00 from meat and 3p for veg. We will have some today with roast potatoes the rest will be portioned up and in the freezer either to have with potatoes or made into pies. It's in the slow cooker, the veg packs are a casserole one with swede, carrot, onion, new potatoes and leeks the other has butternut, squash sweet potatoes and onion total of 940kg of veg.
I've also got YS sausage meat out of the freezer from just after new year 20p and a pack of my YS puff pastry 60p I intend to mix the sausage meat with some sage and onion stuffing and make sausage rolls and a small plait. These will be eaten during the week.
I also got 1.5kg of strawberries last night for 60p these will be turned into jam this evening.
It's a lovely sunny day here so I'm going to tidy the garden after lunch, I've already done some knitting and the back of the baby bunting sleep bag is finished, I'll do the arms next and knit them both at the same time.
Have a lovely Sunday everyone. Why pay full price when you may get it YS0 -

Floss you can make soup with any veg, just start with a base of onions and stock. DD has made lettuce soup with other green vegetables and said it was good.2025 Fashion on the ration

Minimised some fabric stash this morning by making a card holder from pintrest it's worked out really well so I've minimised all the store cards that were cluttering up my purse and in such a mess I could never find any of them.SPC~12 ot 124

I'm in London now for a few days, so minimising yet again on my utilities by not being at home.
I'm making do with food that will be put in front of me by my niece. Actually we have some scrumptious meals as her partner is half Spanish and is a fab cook!
My niece has a pile of sewing she has saved for me to do while I am here. She doesn't know one end of a needle from the other! :rotfl:Living a frugal retirement without treading on the planet :T

Had a bit of a spendy day yesterday. Went into town for the first time this year. Got DS some wool blend socks nice and thick. He has narrow feet and we may be able to get him some shoes now.
All the time I have been having my cancer treatment I have had very cold feet. Got some of those furry kids slipper boots for only £1.49. I hope these will work. Sometimes there is an advantage to my tiny feet. I would not have wanted to spend more on the slippers as I come off the treatment in July after 3 years of it.
The rest of my money I just frittered away on household things we needed.
I spent bout £20 in the market a few veg but mainly chicken. Got 2k chicken breasts now stashed in the freezer portioned out for 9 meals, three whole chickens for only £6, one for today and two in the freezer, some spicy chicken fillets and the butcher gave me three beef burgers also spicy. Not bad all that lot for £20.
Of course I ran out of time and did not get the underwear I went for. Will have to go to town again during the week.0
