Make do, Mend and Minimise in 2016

My grandmother had a little mat on the floor in front of the sink-the rest of the floor was brick-she said it "saved her feet from the cold floor".0

Floss I can't very well do that. What I thought was a blacked concrete floor turned out to be black tiles quite new ones, once we could see in the flat. They're very expensive non slip tiles and the bathroom is a non slip floor too.0

Finished cutting all the pieces out for my patchwork squares so want to get my machine out and make them up today.
Still have a small pile of mending I MUST get round to and need to minimise a bit more of the ironing pile.

I have one of those carpet sample squares in the front of my sink, I've always done this over the years I had a parquet floor in the kitchen back in 1976 and then vinyl in other houses over the years. Why pay full price when you may get it YS0

Morning all.
My mum always has a piece of carpet on the floor in the kitchen. Every so often it gets thrown out and then she starts asking if any of us (2 brothers and me) have any bits/remnants to replace it. She's always done this for as long as I can remember. I always point out that she wears slippers but she maintains it makes the kitchen 'look warm'.
Made do & minimised: I made fish pie yesterday with some YS white fish, a piece of salmon fillet and some prawns I had in the freezer. There didn't seem a lot but once I had added onions, peas and some frozen spinach, I managed to make 2. One was curried fish pie with an oaty crumble topping, which was last night's tea. The other was the usual one with mashed potato on top and is now in the freezer for when I can't be bothered cooking.
No mending - still waiting for OH to try on trousers!Books - the original virtual reality.

My downstairs loo is in the utility and has no heating and a tiled floor - its always freezing! I've got a piece of that plastic matting you can buy on a roll - its soft and squishy and you can put it in the washing machine. There are a few designs and it always feels warm. We've got a runner of it in our caravan too as its easy to keep clean.Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0

Minimising- I've made a tiny cardigan for one of the girls at work from some odd bits of wool. She's in hospital until her baby is born, poor girl, and it looks like baby may be early and she can't arrive with no clothes! I've done one tiny bootee as well, do the other one tonight. If the baby is too big for the clothes then she can leave them behind for the hospital to use so everyone's happy!
Making do-haven't bought any more biscuits or chocolate as i'm still going through my Christmas and birthday stash.
Mending-nah no time for that today!0 -
As soon as I get home from London, I will be minimising my 'free' toiletries stash, having a pamper evening. I have accumulated quite a bit if toiletries from hotels so will be using the luxury ones from Dubai. Including a nice face mask!
I will be making do with crackers and camembert for supper.
I won't be mending anything tonight as I will be too late by the time I've finished with my fussy pampering!Living a frugal retirement without treading on the planet :T

mrs-moneypenny what is school cheese pie?
Ran out of bread so had to make do with some corn cakes for breakfast. I've made some bread this evening so will leave it to cool overnight and slice it in the morning. Looking forward to my toast tomorrow
We had egg fried rice for tea tonight using up various bits that were in the fridge and then pancakes for pudding. There's some rice leftover so think OH will have that for tea tomorrow night and I'll do a freezer raid or have a baked tattie.
I've still got the mending to do and the ironing pile is growing again so that will be tomorrow evenings jobs. I also need to go through the pile of papers, receipts, etc that I've dumped on my desk and see what I need to keep and what can be recycled.Mortgage 26.4.25 - £108,500 1.9.25 - £106,033.77
