  • Morning everyone and welcome to Capella. I'm a retiree in waiting - I'm off work with a long term issue but will retire officially from April.
Yesterday I had a brilliant day out with SIL and DD1 to a craft/sewing/knitting fair in Manchester. I went with a cash budget for the day so I wasn't too tempted. I ended up spending very little but lending a lot to DD1. We discovered there is another one in September, so it's in our diaries to go again.
Made do with leftover minestrone, which in turn had been made from left over vegetable pasta pot.
Minimise - still going through some filing cabinet drawers getting rid of old teaching plans etc.
Mend - Tacked the hems on some walking trousers for OH, now I'm waiting for him to try them on so that I can machine sew them.

I have been off bananas this week so had a few too many over ripe. I have cut them up, placed them on a tray in the freezer and will whizz them with a splash of milk when I get in from the school run... kids will like banana ice-cream ;)

Making Do ; from the freezer and food cupboard to ensure I don't go shopping until next Wednesday when the Lidls offers finish :):):)

Mending; discovered a sticky backed hook in one of the drawes that will be ideal for hanging my keys on as I am always chucking them down and forgetting where I have thrown them. Now I have a hook on the back of my inner door that goes to the porch so hanging them there means they will be under my nose as I go to go out :):):)

Minimising ;I shall use up a couple of peppers and sweet potato to make some soup and the other pepper I shall stuff with some chopped up veg and sage and onion stuffing. That should make me a nice lunch

Welcome Cappella you will enjoy the support on here as we are quite a matey bunch and all doing our best not to have any waste at all.

Cheers everyone have a good weekend

Good day all you fellow MMMer's it's a wet day here but not cold. So my plan for after lunch it sewing. I need to make 3 longish tapes from some gingham out of my stash which we bought when DD was pregnant with DGS 4 years ago. I'm doing the hot air balloon light, ribbon was too flimsy and was right, so I'm going with making tapes by folding fabric and stitching along the edge.i will thread through the small basket and then over stitch by hand. It should work, well it does in my head lol.
Why pay full price when you may get it YS ;)

Today I'm hoping to turn my old holey jeans into a bag for my knitting. I bought a zip for it yesterday rather than recycle the one in the jeans as I want to be able to put my books with my patterns in the bag as well. Plus it needs to zip up so our dog can't get in and scatter the contents ;)

I'm going to be putting the breadmaker on to make DD bread for her lunches but she wants rolls this time instead of sliced bread so I'll do that tomorrow when I can have the oven on as well. ;)

  • Hi to everyone. It's a bit parky here today but when I looked out of the kitchen window this morning one of the trees in the garden is in blossom. I swear it wasn't there yesterday - so a cheerful start to the day.
Well, the pizza dough is in the bread maker and I will be using up some mushrooms and parma ham for the topping. No mending today but later tonight, I am going to start to knit some wrist-warmer/fingerless glove type things for DD1 using up some of my stash.
Hope everyone has a pleasant evening

Were sort of settling in to the flatLyn still not finished unpacking due to there not being much room. Most is going straight to CS. Even getting rid of necessities now. Total storage is two cupboards in the kitchen and the cupboard at the bottom of the dresser.

I said to Ds the other day "You do realize the pile of stuff on top of your wardrobe has to go up through the next two flats."
  • Hi everyone, lots of MMM done here and lots planned.

Many thanks to MrsCD for her fruit cake recipe - can't remember which thread but I baked it on Thursday and it is really moist and tasty. I mixed the full recipe then baked it in 2 loaf tins thereby reducing cooking time to 45 minutes. I gave one to Mum today who said it was one of the best fruit cakes she's taste - praise indeed :).

MINIMISING - losing the will to live re reducing cheese mountain. Today I made a quiche with the rest of the Wensleydale cheese with cranberries. While in the oven I did wonder if it would be edible and was very surprised how nice it tasted. I had some pastry left and made a small 2 portion pie filled with chutney and Brie. This will be for lunch tomorrow, hopefully it will taste as nice as the quiche. The leftover quiche will be frozen in individual portions.

MENDING - Kind of !!! I bought a sarong from eBay for my holiday in October. I never used it and actually bought a nicer one whilst away.
I have cut this sarong in half and made two nice scarves with it. I shall give one to my friend who likes the colours.

I can never think of MAKING DO things.......

I am now going to sit in front of TV all night knitting, so a bit more minimising of wool taking place xx

I hope this counts as make do, I went with DD to get DGS back from his Dad's and we passed Mr T's at 7.00pm so I said can we call in I need a bag of their everyday frozen oven chips 1.5kg for 75p. They do us 4 meals and they are great. Well the YS stuff was all done to the lowest I've ever seen. But never normally go on a Saturday well I got £46 worth of stuff for £1.98 and 74p of that was for a finest king prawn spaghetti ready meal. So I'm one happy bunny.
Why pay full price when you may get it YS ;)

    Evening all

My sister gave me some baked potatoes, so I made do mixing with leftover chicken onion from my box of free salad, and then returned the mixture back into the potato skins and had them with side salad. They were delicious! :D
I minimised my grey hair today by home dying my hair! Saves me a small fortune from going to the salon! :money:
No mending until tomorrow, when I'm going to be repairing two shirts for my friend :)
