  • Welcome Pepperoni! I don't include children's clothes as they are growing at a rate of knots, and I don't think it would be easy to control spend at the moment, I think the uniform buying has nearly cleaned me out!

I think I've been awol for a little while. I sent the dresses back but the do is next week and I still don't know what to wear! I'll find something in my wardrobe. I pretty much wear dresses 99.9% of the time so I really should be able to find something. I know I shouldn't use clothes shopping as an emotional crutch.

I have bought some shoes recently so I know I'm way over budget for the year. They will see me through the winter, and were thought through purchases not 'ooh pretty shoes' which is what usually happens... These were Zara and Topshop, so were more reasonable than what I used to spend when I wasnt a single mum. Shoes are my real weakness. I went to Bicester village yesterday with my mum and was nearly tempted by some Prada shoes for £85 but I walked away. I think I justify shoe spends in my mind because I think no matter what my weight is, my feet are the same size.

I've been having a tough time with the children's dad, who thinks the children should meet her. We will be having mediation so there are many more tears to shed.

I'll try to update my total later, it won't be pretty.... But I am going to try to not feel like a failure as I think with what's happened this year, it could have been a lot worse!

I'm going to try and do something about my weight starting this week, have signed up to the Body Coach which I am nervous about - I hope I can give it the commitment it will require! I will try to see this as the self compassion I need to show myself, being overweight is so sapping my confidence so why can't I bite the bullet and do something about it!?

Sorry for being incoherent - you are all doing so well with your amazing charity shop spends.

Vintagegal why don't you & a friend go "shopping" in your wardrobe? Put on some nice undies & heels so you can try the dresses you find tucked away, then you can satisfy the urge to find something for your posh do.

    Thank you

You're very welcome :) Sometimes everyone needs another view on things, to regain perspective ;) You will start to feel better about yourself, I promise.

In the mean time, is it a major problem to allow your children to meet your ex's new partner? When my boys (aged 11 & 13) met their dad's new woman (who he eventually married) they took great delight in telling me the things that showed him to be a liar ("we're not living together"..."her clothes were drying with dad's things on the airer"). Sometimes it is better to take the moral high ground and let them work their way through several partners while you retain your dignity & keep your private life private from your kids and him ;)

Oil Painting and Colour run kerri :o

My DIL has now started the addiction of Tilkboo and ordered 5 pairs :rotfl:I love my DIL my son couldnt have choosen a better women ;)
but she blames me and I blame kerri so thats all fair I think :D

vintagegal I agree with Floss but the kids will have to meet her one day I know its hard as I went though all this and know how hard it is.But the problem is all steming from how bad you feel about yourself. The other women has done you a really big favour as if it hadnt happened now it would have happenend sometime down the line as sadly thats the way your ex works.

I so hope that one day you meet her and she says she is sorry to you and you can turn round and say exactly what I said. Which was 'Please dont be sorry you have done me the biggest favour anyone could have ever done me :) and then shake her hand say good luck (without even saying 'you will need it )and walk off with your head held so high and feeling bl**dy amazing. ;) and mean every single word of it and when you walk away you will be smirking to yourself just like me :)

But first you need to take control of your own life your own issues as you cant control the other situation all you can do is to make it as painless for yourself as possible. Get on with the Body coach kick yourself up the backside stop being the victim in this take control of yourself and once the lbs start coming off you will feel so much better we all promise. But the weight is not the most important thing here you taking control is
I know I dont live near you but my god I wish I did.

Good luck Girl take the bull by the horns and just bl**dy go for it we are all behind you.

    Mav x

Debt free and Mortgage free thank you to all for your encouragement and advice

  • vintagegal - can't say any better than what the others have already said, but sending you have a hug. It sounds very tough. I know how it feels to feel self conscious and also have weight to shift, if it only you could click your fingers and make it happen eh. Staying motivated is so hard. Especially if you are a comfort eater.

  • Had to spend £9.99 yesterday on DS swim shorts. I did buy a pair but the wrong size, grrr, will sell those. Now watching the next size up swim shorts on ebay to make sure I'm prepared so I don't have to pay £9.99 again for them.

  • Hmmm. Been thinking about starting running for ages now but been putting it off because of my weight. Anyway yesterday I decided that if I carried on putting it off until I'd lost weight, I'd probably never start. Which led into buying some running shoes so I can start. Will also need to buy some clothes to actually run in (nothing fits).

So a large cost but I spoke to a few runners who urged me to buy a decent pair so I didn't do any damage to my knees etc... so I'll take the hit and just hope it motivates me to actually use them a lot!

Still doing well for me - there are so many things for my children I want but am resisting.

Hi there, I thought I'd give a bit of advice. I started running after putting on a lot of weight (which is now coming off quite well, so it does work :) ) I don't know if you have previously run, but if you happen to be either a new or returning runner it would be good to find a training plan that has lots of 'walk/run' type training sessions where you run for say 1 minute, then walk for 2, and build up the time spent running that way. It is very good for new or returning runners, or people like me who were heavier as it is better for the body and causes less shock to the joints. The good news is any runner worth their salt will always say it doesn't matter if you run just 5 minutes in a 30 minute session, as soon as you do any sort or length of running you are allowed to call yourself a runner! So welcome to the runners club.

There is also a really good magazine book that I have which was produced by runners world magazine and it was called 'Run your belly off' which is a great starting point with full training plans for several weeks and other advice. It might be in your local WH Smiths if you have one. I bought mine late last year but I think they re-issue it each year, or it might be on Amazon (there is a book called Run your butt off which is in a similar vein but i think the run your belly off book is just as good)

You were absolutely right to invest in a good pair of shoes, that's pretty much all you'll need (you should also invest in a good sports bra if applicable) so find a nice training plan online, in a book, or on a smart phone app and start running :)

Sorry for going off topic a little. I did mention running shoes so I think it's ok :rotfl:

Welcome to the running club too! when I started a couple of years ago, I struggled with a mile - now I've done 3 1/2 marathons, a 5k is less than my 'usual' run (although haven't been out for ages) and although I might be slower than a herd of snails in superglue at times, I'm still doing it.

I've never really followed a plan as my running partner is a PT and previous runner herself so she just tells me what to do, and mostly I do it (unless it's really hot, then I might just sulk and refuse :rotfl:) but I hear good things about the couch to 5k plan.

Keep us posted on how you're going. xx
