  • Hi Coppers - it can be confusing deciding what to count and what not to count.

The way I see it is, count the spending you want to be more conscious & aware around. For example - I don't count underwear because I buy that sensibly - I buy when I need it and I'm not extravagant - most other items of clothing its a completely different matter however :o so I do count that spending. Personally I wouldn't have counted the wristband towards my budget. I'd have seen it more as a charitable donation. But do whatever works for you.

Glad to have you with us :)

I wouldnt have counted the wristband either :D Up to you but I would see it as a donation as well.

Feedback left for the shoes and she is very happy. Will keep my eyes open to see what she sells them on for ;)

I cant really be bothered with E@ay any more to be honest. To me its a pain to pack stuff up etc etc so I will only buy to sell when I know there is a big enough profit to make it worth my while as I value my time quite highly ;) I have earnt really good money on there in the past when I put a lot of time and effort into it :D At one time that was all I did.and earnt enough to pay the Mortgage ;) and all the other household Bills.

Dont think I am a Guru :rotfl:Maybe I just have too much time on my hands.

In my budget this year I am including everything  underwear, sports stuff and trainers.Last year I spent loads on underwear and bras so I should have enough to last this year:)

But thats just me as I am being hard on myself this year as I got off very lightly last year and still went over budget :rotfl:So I am making myself pay the price :D

Thanks for all your comments re standing on the platform rather than go in a shopping centre. In addition to not wanting to buy anything, I
didnt want to get lost and miss my train :D My sense of direction is shocking so although I could see the shopping centre from the platform I wasn't convinced that I would be able to find the train station from the shopping centre!!!

I wouldn't have counted the wrist band either coppers. Where did you get it? I saw them advertised but never worked out where to get one. Welcome by the way :D

Another week of no buying anything this week. I. went into next today whilst waiting for another train just to have a look at the new season collection. Didn't see anything I wanted, and I don't need anything.

    Have a great weekend everyone.

Thanks everyone, I'll put my budget back to £300.
got the band from Tesco, they had 3 different colours & different sizes. I got a bright teal like colour & white, they also had navy & white, pink & white. The pink ones seemed to sell best.

Everyone seems to be doing really well. I'm another one who doesn't include underwear but only buy what I need.

I don't have a budget as such this year and haven't bought anything yet, but my wardrobe is in a completely different state to the last couple of years when I didn't have the 'right' stuff.

By being sort of focused on this thread for the last couple of years (never managed to keep to budget though) I now have enough clothes of the right kind - lots of jeans and jumpers for everyday (gave up on leggings), a wardrobe for the office and some lovely going out stuff. And something for every season, classic styles that mix and match.

So thanks to everyone for the motivation.
Spend less now, work less later.

*peeks around door* Can I come in?

I absolutely do not need any new clothes. I bought some new pyjamas over the Xmas period in the M&S sale (got 2 pairs for the price of one basically) and some lounge pants. The only thing I'm likely to need may be underwear, but I don't do frilly or fancy. M&S bog-standard cotton knickers all the way. I'm a stupid bra size (42A) so can only buy one bra in M&S and it never gets reduced so I buy those as and when, and they're always full price. But my wardrobe is crammed full, as is a suitcase which holds my summer clothes (or winter ones in summer) and also all the clothes I can't fit into :( I used to work in an office on a road in an affluent part of town, surrounded by about 8 charity shops and basically kept them in business!! Particularly when I was losing weight 2002-04. On the plus side, I rarely pay full price for anything these days. It has to be special and tends to be footwear - I HATE shoe shopping. So if I see some shoes I like, I don't tend to hang around for the sales.

I've got a wedding this year, but am wearing a dress I bought for my theatre trip last year to see Hamlet at the Barbican. It was a Wallis bargain and although I wasn't looking for anything special, it just screamed "HAMLET!!!" at me as I walked past it in Debenhams and it was £20 reduced from £40. As it's sleeveless though, I do need something to go over it for the day. Or do I? The wedding/reception is all in one venue so once we're in, we're in. It's at the beginning of April, so although it could be chilly, a pashmina would probably do it. We've only got to walk from the car to the venue, and back at the end of the day by which time I will probably be warmed through by alcohol and not really caring about the outside temperature :rotfl:

I do tend to spend in times of stress (witness SEVEN pairs of shoes bought last year while my husband was in hospital seriously ill - by mail order, I hasten to add - and I was off work for the best part of 10 weeks as a result). I do have a ridiculous number of shoes for someone who hates shoe shopping - and yet I live in my Clark's lace-up brogues (I try to park my car outside town once a week and walk to/from the office, and they're great for walking in). The stupid weather also means I'm hardly having chance to wear my boots. On the plus side, this SHOULD mean I don't need to buy any for next winter although my ankle boots might need replacing.

My absolute downfall are scarves and jewellery. I'm renowned at work for my colour coordination so have scarves/necklaces/earrings/bracelets in all the colours of the rainbow. In fact I'm at a point where I'm buying clothes to match my accessories, not the other way round :rotfl:

With the exception of underwear, I could probably wear something different every day for the best part of a month without needing to do any laundry! Wow, that's a thought  January was almost spend-free but then I got a gorgeous coat in our local hospice CS for a tenner. So now I have about a dozen coats. The dress and grey patent brogues I bought in the M&S sale were bought with an Xmas giftcard.

Sorry this post got away from me. I don't particularly want to set a budget, because I genuinely don't need anything. Not sure how that will go down on the member list - I saw someone's name with "restrictions" at the side of it. Maybe that's also me. But I look forward to checking in and taking part. I need to get rid of some stuff.

  • I've had a little splurge. I got a beautiful baby blue beaded short sleeved cardigan by John rocha and a debenhams cream and black pleated front t shirt for £12. Both were brand new with tags on and should have been £39.50 and £19.50.
That takes my annual spend to £20/£300

    Thanks and thanks :D

If I buy clothes it's very ad hoc, so I never have a budget anyway! I work in the city centre but although I browse a lot I'm not a big lunchtime shopper as it's too easy to lose track of time!
