Winter Tyres

Is it time yet to fit winter tyres in SE/Central England?
Please don't tell me they are unneccessary- they are not snow tyres, they are a rubber compound designed for temperatures below 6/7 Degrees.
So how will temps trend in the next couple of months?

I didn't get that crystal ball for Christmas so your guess is as good as mine (and neither of them are likely to have much scientific foundation).

I'm not sure I'd bother this year, especially for central/SE England. If you'd listened to a lot of people you should have fitted them back in late Oct but then most people didn't know it was going to be this mild so far.

If you fit them now you'll probably be taking them off again in a couple of months (famous last words and all that), if you haven't yet bought some I'd give it a miss.

Already have winters on spare wheels and will fit them DIY, no further expense involved.

Fit the winter ones now and take them off about July/August but refit them before the end of September.

    That should cover you.

Temps have been below 10 degrees in July and August according to the MET office.

I cannot predict the weather, but I do foresee a long boring debate (again) about the pros and cons of winter tyres.

Still wearing shorts to the office on Fridays here on the south coast! Posties still have shorts on as well. Today is the first day I've seen the temp in single figures for weeks, been mostly 12-13 degrees day and night. Had to take my coat off on Christmas Day for the walk home it was so warm ( did still keep the beer coat on though).

I would have had them on for a few weeks now.

As winter tyres are much better in the wet than summer tyres.

You can use winter tyres all year long if you want, though they will wear faster, especially on the edges of you do.

I was going to buy a set of All Season tyres then not have to worry about the changeover

But have not had the time.

Surely that's only if you drive at speed in v. wet conditions? On the school run/commute to work I bet 99% of drivers would never know the difference. Winter tyres are really only of any benefit in icy/snowy conditions and there's no forecast of that south of the midlands in the foreseeable future.
