The Winter tyres I used were GoodYear UltraGrip 8 and which much superior in the wet.

Obviously I don't do emergency braking tests.

But the tyre that came off were GoodYear aswell, Efficient grip.

But braking is only one of the ways to judge a tyre.

The way a tyre deals with standing water is a significant point.

And in my experience they were exceptional.

What winter tyres do you have that are rated C for wet weather grip?

As that seems exceptionally low for a tyre that should be good in wet or cold conditions.

All the Winter tyres I looked at where A or B.

I would probably avoid a Winter that scored C.

Perhaps my experince is more specific to the tyres I have used.

I have only used GoodYear UltraGrip 8 and Michelin Alpin.

Evidenced by what? Your opinion, very scientific.

the winter tyres that i have are Dunlop Winter Sport 4D

    www.tyreleader.co.uk/car-tyres/dunlop/sp-winter-sport-4d

the year i bought them they came third in the winter tyre test that auto express did, my first choice would have been the conti winter but availability in my required size was scarce so i went for the dunlops which are great tyres

I am a winter tyre convert and i am the first to bang the drum for winter tyres but felt it worth pointing out that they are not an all round winner in warmer wet conditions
  • I've never bothered with winter tyres. Even in the bad winters of 2009 and 2010 I managed just fine when the roads were covered in snow and ice.

Well when I bought my Ultragrip 8's I was told that the Dunlop and Goodyear were very similar. He actually said they were made by the same company but I can't confirm or deny that.

I am surprised the Dunlops are only a C for wet grip as I am fairly certain the Goodyears were A or B, though this was around 5 yrs ago so I would expect they have improved things since then.

goodyear ultragrip 8,s in 205/55/16 which is my tyre size are C rated for wet braking

so for my car the goodyears are exactly the same wet rating as the dunlops my car is shod with

That's impossible, you're in the north which is cold and has proper snow. Bigjill lives down south, they have a slight frost and he says everyone needs winter tyres.

He says they out perform summer tyres in the wet even though there's evidence they don't. Remember his opinion beats all that tyre companies and independent test, why because he's spoken to a tyre monkey whilst being sold new tyres.

I was directed to your post quoted above.

And would like to nominate you for the unofficial Stalker of the Year Out of Context award 2016.

    Ignore Bigjill ignore.

You've just proved you can't well done. :T

Well in this test http://www.whatcar.com/car-news/wet-conditions/1206074 there wasn't much difference between the Ultragrip and Efficientgrip and as you can see a summer tyre came out on top with those tests performed at 5 degress.
