  • Evening all

Well, when it rained today (N Buckinghamshire) it really rained and you could have genuinely sailed down the street at several points today!! Made me very grateful to be snuggled down in my little house and not in the state of some poor souls in Cumbria etc. My heart goes out to them when it rains!

Gave myself a 'holiday' today. When I ve had a stressful week I have finally learnt to do this for myself - long bath - longer yoga session - walkies (when the rain was lighter) watched a movie and ate only nutrition dense foods (eg chicken and broccoli) - done some reading and research on stuff that would matter to no one else! (e.g. what is the calorie count of my own HM Victoria Sponge?)
It is also NSD as I dont have a need for anything :j
    Feeling v lucky
Off to bed (as part of new lifestyle) early to read a chapter of my current book!
Tilly tidies this week (from Happy Stash purse) was £2.45. None from grocery as did £23 since 28th December.
Putting £10 into each purse tonight but will have no cause to open them so far as I can see this week!
    Nite all!
Aim for Sept 17: 20/30 days to be NSDs  NSDs July 23/31 (aim 22) :j
NSDs 2015:185/330 (allowing for hols etc)
LBM: started Jan 2012 - still learning!
Life gives us only lessons and gifts - learn the lesson and it becomes a gift.' from the Bohdavista :j

I don't post on here very often but I enjoy sharing the day to day machinations of other peoples' lives. On grey days when the rain is streaming down, the skies are grey and somehow you can't always motivate yourself to "get up and go" it's both reassuring to read that some others are feeling same, but also motivational that others are getting their sleeves rolled up and getting useful stuff done. All of us plodding along on the same journey though!
:) I can usually find endless excellent reasons not to do things I really ought to be doing; I can quite easily read books for 8 hours a day, f'rinstance.

But I don't feel good about myself afterwards. An occasional day of loafing around is necessary, but too much of it makes me bleughhhh.

So, I cajole myself into doing stuff. I tell myself I am 'just' popping up to the allotment to drop off the rotables into the compost. It's a 15 minute bike ride away. Then, once I'm there, I feel I ought to make use of the energy expended to-ing and fro-ing by doing 'a little' so I set myself half-an-hour's work.

By the time half-an-hour has passed, I have also passed the can't be arrised state of mind, and usually potter on for another hour or more.

I also make a point, just before I leave the plot, to stand for a few seconds admiring my handiwork. Then I can pedal off home with the satisfaction of a job well done, and get back on the sofa with a good book.:rotfl:

I've never been more happy with amazon lately.
Long story short: They have some free ebooks so I downloaded a few: Sherlock Holmes, one by Leo Tolstoi and one by Jules Verne. I always wanted to read them and now I can :j :T
Butterfly, Have you found the Guttenburg website? They have lots and lots of books, all available to download for free. I started with the complete Sherlock Holmes and then just try random books I fancy, including one about taxidermy:rotfl:
I don't use amz0n ever anymore, until they smarten up their tax affairs!
If you, or anybody who like modern books wants to try some free down loads check out Cory Doctorow, he writes sort of sci-fi for young adults and adults. he also believes in creatives commons so gives his books for free download (hoping that at some point you may also buy a copy)
  • GQ you lucky woman 3 hours fresh air yesterday we had rain in the Medway towns. It even woke me at 3 am this morning as it was extremely heavy. I am thinking about popping my head out the back door later as I have a lemon drizzle cake in the oven, Using up left over lemons.

:) I came away from the lottie at 1.30 and it started to rain at 3 pm, then rained the rest of the day and got really windy at bedtime.

Today is pretty much the same, the morning was a bit iffy but I wasn't planning to be up there for long, just the plant the three extra fruitbushes I got yesterday afternoon, and do a dump run. Which I did. Is now raining again but I don't have to go anywhere outside unless I fancy a YS run to Tosspots just before closing time, which I can take or leave.

Thus far, today is a NSD and I'm now in pottering-about mode, alternating bits of housework with reading and interwebulation. We ME- types have to pace ourselves. Plus, I spend my workweek in go-go-go mode, so it's nice to just be at home.

Weather is pants here today cold, windy and showers

In addition to doing the ironing and hoovering right through the house, I've spent a productive few hours in the kitchen this afternoon and now I'm shattered, but I'm ready for next week as I've....

prepared the celeriac so easy to use during the week
made 14 pancakes for breakfasts, half are now in freezer
made a batch of potato & leek soup for lunches
made 6 sweet potato, broccoli & cheese patties, 4 of which are now in freezer
made a lasagne ready to put in oven for tea tonight

Then I washed what appeared to be a mountain of dishes and put them away...and now it's time for a well deserved cuppa :j

Went shopping this morning and managed to dodge the showers. We had a thunder storm at 4am so I got up and had a cup of tea and unloaded / reloaded the dishwasher. Took me tea back to bed with me and managed to get back to sleep.

I did my food shopping this morning it was really quiet in @ldi at 10am and there were loads of parking spaces  and I managed to avoid the bargains aisles.

I usually do my food shopping on a Monday but my car is being collected for its MOT tomorrow and they will deliver it back to me in the afternoon. The MOT is reduced to £25 with the service plan. The dealer made a hash of setting up the plan and offered me £25 of free fuel with my MOT but I had forgotten this and filled up my car as petrol was 99p at asda. Anyway I contacted the dealer and said they cant fit £25 of fuel in the car and they have agreed to do the MOT for free instead :T

I dyed my summer cut-off trousers yesterday and chucked in the bedroom curtains but it didn't quite turn out as expected. The trousers are a lovely chocolate brown but the curtains just went from light blue to dark blue ... anyone have any idea what went wrong ? Do you think there may be some sort of treatment on the fabric stopping them turning brown? I don't know whether to risk buying another dye and trying them again.

Am really craving a takeaway tonight. DS is at work until 11pm so its just me. No excuse to buy one as I have thai frozen meal and fish/oven chips and poppin chicken/skinny fries in the freezer, but for some reason I am still craving a takeaway... I will resist !!

  • Evening everyone

We too had two rainy and grey days. Walked my aunts dog yesterday for almost two hours which was the only dry spot all day... Dog behaved quite well which surprised me as he is in a very naughty mood at the moment and always tries to run away...

Had the first spend today that wasn't food or meal out. A girl from my knitting group sold some yarn she doesn't want anymore so I got two lovely balls of purple yarn which will become a scarf. I was dreaming of a lacy, purple scarf and this was just the yarn for it, so had to have it. And then I ordered some knitting needles yesterday as I needed double pointed ones in size 8 and prefere plastic needles. So onto Amaz0n I went to find out that postage is 10€... I've actually planned to buy needles one at a time if I need a size but with that price for postage I'm certainly not going to order them individually, so ordered the 5 sizes I'm most likely going to use in the nearer future... 31€ all together...

Just had a cooking session, made gnocchi and froze them, but was a nightmare to make as they were very sticky... Then I cooked some chocolate pudding and prepared mash for tomorrow.
Will have a wisdom tooth removed and although my dentist said that the ones on top aren't as bad and I will not be in pain I'm not trusting that completely, so I guess I will be home feeling sorry for myself tomorrow...

PM; you could use celeriac in soups or to bulk up mash.

Will do some crafting tonight, not knitting for once. After removing christmas decoration my door looks so boring so I will revamp a wreath with some flowers made of newspaper and then I plan on at least getting some sewing started.

    Have a nice evening everyone!

:) Dye won't produce its advertised colour unless you're dyeing something which is white, or very nearly so. There is also the issue of the fibre that the fabric is made of; natural fibres take up the dyes better than artificial ones, and some artificial ones like polyesters are dyed at the pre-fibre stage when the filament is being extruded. HTH.

Day 10/366. NSD Spent my day instead inside cooking a batch of veggie curry in the sc which will do us for two meals later in the week when time is in short supply and Mr GBT has cooked up a thrifty roast with an extra large YS chicken we had in the freezer. Half will go back in the freezer to reappear for another meal and we were able to mop up all the lurking leftover veggies.

Having thoroughly enjoyed a good feed over the festive season I am now in the process of restraining my naughty eating habits just a tad and bring them back into line. Friend bought us a packet of millionaire shortbread biscuits yesterday- now I could easily eat one or more without really noticing but instead I've cut them into bitesize pieces like you can buy in the sm and then I can spread them out over a few more days. That's the theory anyway....!!
