JackieO we still had some Christmas stuff in our local grocery store  Decorations & chocolate were about 50-70 % off. I was so tempted to buy a few decorations for my bedroom but then thought about it: Christmas is already over and I won't be seeing those decors for 11 months. So why bothering buying it when it still stays in a box? As for chocolate...I've been craving it in the past few days but since I want to live a bit healthier I decided to go with some normal popcorn. I love making it myself and don't add any sugar. If so I use a bit of stevia but that's it.
And for the wine: congrats on your prize  We just got rid of 6 bottles and gave them into a prize drawing ourselves. We used to get them with takeout food (order over 40 € as far as I remember) but no one of us is drinking it
Takeout is not completely banned from our lives but we want to reduce it to once every 2 weeks. :Tweight loss journey: 3 KG / 8 KG

I'm back to the land of the living - just
That's me first in the queue for the flu jab next year, I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy
Still nauseous , still some aches and pains but I'm up and mobile
And freezing cold. Thankfully heating oil is so cheap ATM cos I've had to switch the heating on ( don't usually if it's just me at home, but needs must)
I'm looking at the disaster that is my kitchen and I'm just wondering where to start
The washing machine is on, and I've five loads waiting. My cooker that hubby had spotless for Christmas Eve looks like it's not been touched in a year, and I won't even subject you to the horrors of the fridge:eek: Horrors of horrors, I'm going to have to throw food away
Seems mother has taken advantage of me not being on form to keep on buying things and leaving them to fester Not even I can rescue mouldy beets and pate
Right now I'm sat here looking at the stack of Christmas goodies bought, and not even looked at
The thing I don't get, is people changing their furniture because of fashion what is that all about? I know so many people who redecorate every couple of years, right down to new suites, because of fashion trends. Someone I work with is on her third suite in 5 years  But then it's bought on the 3 years interest free deals, along with the car fianance, the credit card paid holidays, and she wonders why she has to work full time......
Did I not read somewhere recently that personal debt is now higher then it was before the crash? Tbh with the world economy being as unstable as it is, debt is something I really wouldn't want to be having
Right, I've procrastinated enough, this kitchen needs me0 -
My leftover casserole from last night got turned into soup for lunch today, for myself and DF.
I returned a book to Amaz@@@n the other day and have recieved my refund today. Previously I don't think I would have bothered, but the book wasn't in as good quality as I had anticipated and it was new! It got me thinking of a friend who has always been in debt, she buys tons of clothes from catalogues etc and if they don't fit she will just give them away or throw them out. So I am very proud of myself for returning it.
I have only been into town once since new year, and that was for banking and chores, so apart from shopping in budget, I have not bought anything! Now Mrs FrugalinShropshire:T Proud to be mortgage and debt free:j0 -
Hi everyone, quickly dropping in for an update. I've been slowly keeping up with the thread because hubby, myself and our two kids have been in Romania for New Year (where OH is originally from) so we've been busy visiting his family here but at least it's been good for NBI! I don't speak any Romanian so going to the supermarket is impossible, plus there's been about two feet of snow to plough through when going outside, so I'm more than happy staying inside.
Back home on Monday and I've spent the last hour doing a meal plan for next week and an online shopping list so that on Tuesday morning I can go out with list in hand and not randomly buy things. Probably will spend more than usual as I'll be buying some things to restock the freezer, we had to buy a new fridge freezer before Christmas as ours was beyond repair.
Other than that I had my first spend today, I bought a new squashy teether for my youngest who is four months and seems to be struggling with his gums at the moment. As far as teethers go it was an expensive one, but my eldest really found comfort with hers (until my mum misplaced it or he could have used that!) and we didn't get him a single thing for Christmas, which while I don't feel guilty about, he's too young to notice anything let alone receiving presents, I feel like since I haven't spent any money on him for ages I can get him this little thing which may help him.
Also while I was doing the online shopping list, I put a "special buy" cast iron casserole dish into the trolley, realised I really don't need it, then promptly deleted it. Pleased with myself. The one thing I do need is a new griddle pan as I use ours a lot but everything sticks to it now and you lose half the food stuck to it, but I've decided to wait until the end of the month and see how much money I have left.

Can I join in too please? I've been trying to watch what I spend, and lurked in this thread a bit last year. But I need to step up a gear. I've been following the KM thread, and have found, like everyone else, that I now have a different attitude to bringing stuff into the house. I feel happier with things I've got, and think very carefully before I buy. 'It'll do' just doesn't cut it any more!
I'm planning a drop in income later on in the year, so need to take proper control. But I'm looking forward to the journey!0 -
Shampoo - is there any difference between, say, the Schwartz K0pf stuff I buy at pound land and the stuff that costs £5 or so a bottle?
I have also sent back the black trousers I bought that don't suit me. I am now thinking that maybe black trousers are not for me and that I should just take my time finding some that are and, in the meantime, make do with what I have.I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Shampoo - I read, somewhere on mse that it doesn't matter which shampoo you use, it's the quality of the conditioner. Must admit I do like pant!n! I buy it on offer, it's quite thick and seems to last quite awhile.

GQ the Cs may be a swear word in my birthplace to you but they are actually social classes things are aimed at. A upper management, B middle management, C supervisory, clerical, Junior management, this is the biggest class includes Ward Sisters, Police sergeants, foremen all sorts of jobs and these are the ones who have ambitions so most things are aimed at them.
You are class C but your income takes you out of it so nothing expensive is aimed at you only things like beans and washing powder.
Your 2 Cs in a K are two class C housewives. The last two classifications are D skilled manual workers though say a plumber or an electrician who works for himself and employs people is also class C. Class E unskilled worker and finally unclassified casual workers, pensioners on state pension only and those on benefits. Anyone in this category is not aimed at at all because they can't afford anything but the basics.
They know everything about you and how to manipulate you. Now you know why class Cs who lose their jobs get into massive debts.0 -
Had a fab day , in the end , today
I had a docs appointment at midday, n the car wouldn't start, so I rang the AA, who came out n said it was my battery, which had only been replaced in June.It was recharged enough for me to drive to the garage, n they replaced it for free even though I had no receipt :j I'm skint at the moment so am sooo relieved
LARUMBELLE, I too suffer from anxiety and depression, so can totally relate to you re the housework.I hate it, but find cooking very therapeutic"You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf"

All the fresh fruit and veg put away and the odds and ends that I had run out of and still have £50.20p in my food purse to last this month .As I am using as much as I can out of my existing stocks I am hoping for a bit more cash to stash in the holiday account.
