Good afternoon chums,just
weather appalling at the moment grey dark and very January-like. Book club this morning which was nice, and caught up with folk I hadn't seen for awhile.
Just fed my DGS a snack to keep them going until their dinner with their parents around 7.00p.m.
My blessed cold is hanging around a bit,I've got a very heavy head at the moment ,I think its the catarrrh TMI
Weather is due to get chillier this week ,and I already feel the nip in the air. Still ,no food shopping to buy, so when I'm not looking after the boys I can stay in the warm.
Supposed to be at a coffee morning tomorrow, but i'll wait and see what the weather is like first. Quiz night tomorrow night though, and I won't miss that for anything .
DGS Ben sent me a text saying his student grant has come through so he is putting some cash into my account that he owes from last year ,so that will get trandsferred to my holiday account as I had 'written' it off:):) Bless him he is a good lad.
Hope everyone has battened down the hatches for the next week or two.January always seems such a looong month, roll on the spring
Take care all

We had some special offers at our supermarket (like buy 2 get 2 for free) so we stocked up on water, soup, beans etc that will last us for quite a while!
Then we went to a new store that has party / decoration / craft supplements. All the Christmas decorations were 50 % off but I resisted them all:T I did however buy a candle because the last one I own is currently burning. 3 € for a rather large one that's supposed to burn around 70 hours. :T

Afternoon all,
Great that this thread is continuing on for 2016. Hello to both regulars and newcomers.
Haven't posted for a while but have been reading up on everyone elses hints, tips and life events.
Things have moved on for me as now retired early (due to health), so montioring funds in/out. Do get a small pension each month, which I am so thankful to receive. Isn't it amazing the 'stuff' you don't need/want when you are not in the world of outside employment?
Family, a few close friends, good books, cup of coffee, a chat, my dogs, nature.....do you know my ailments have meant I have had to 'slow down' (ready nearly stop)......and smell the roses and live a totally different lifestyle. Frugal isn't a life sentence once I've sorted out needs v's wants. And there are soooo many things I no longer want and wonder what I was thinking a few years ago. For example - high heeled shoes (which I can no longer wear) and bags and 'fashion'. Now, always was a 'rainy day' type of person so didn't do mass credit card spends etc. But still, makes me ponder at how 'low key' life can be and still makes you happy.
One thing I do avail of is the television, which I realise from reading the posts on here so many find a useless or time wasting pastime. But for me an old comedy show, a nature programme, a documentary about foreign lands/cultures/how things are made.....is entertainment which can be watched under a fluffy blanket with my dogs by my side. Also enjoy reading (charity shop books) or ask for gifts at Christmas and then pass on to family etc.
So keep the tips, stories, advice coming.....happy to be aboard the NBI 2016 ship.0 -
Welcome aboard agnesjr the good ship NBI is full of like minded folk, who also have had the 'light-bulb' moment for what ever reason.
I am one who just hates waste of any sort, and would rather spend my saved cash on things I really enjoy, like my DGC and my family.
There is always something new to learn, or tips to be stored away for another day on here, a sort of mutual benefit thread which we all put our two 'penceworth into:):)

I came away from the lottie at 1.30 and it started to rain at 3 pm, then rained the rest of the day and got really windy at bedtime.
Today is pretty much the same, the morning was a bit iffy but I wasn't planning to be up there for long, just the plant the three extra fruitbushes I got yesterday afternoon, and do a dump run. Which I did. Is now raining again but I don't have to go anywhere outside unless I fancy a YS run to Tosspots just before closing time, which I can take or leave.
Thus far, today is a NSD and I'm now in pottering-about mode, alternating bits of housework with reading and interwebulation. We ME- types have to pace ourselves. Plus, I spend my workweek in go-go-go mode, so it's nice to just be at home.
Got an hour tidying the garden yesterday. it bushes in £land but I am not ready to plant them this week and I am not sure how long they will last in their packaging so left them.
Tonight is washing and Ironing plus pottering and tidying0 -
I've been adding more receipts from last year we spent £545.81 on petrol, I use my bus pass as much as possible but DH has mobility problems so he uses the car. This does include all holiday travel too which was almost 25% so don't think that's too bad. I have had a spend and save day today, book 2 more holidays 4 night break for July and 11 night break to Norfolk in October via Breakfree local deals. Both together only came to £257 so I've saved a lot really. They are self catering too so no more than we spend at home when we get there. Why pay full price when you may get it YS0

Day 11/366 Small spend on top up of fruit- all of us seem to have started eating more fruit again now the richness of the Christmas period is over hence the need for more. Struck gold in the Co-Op as they had several reductions on useful things which are now in my freezer and will go towards next week's menu plan. I've spent today working and collecting jumble for this week's sale that I'm helping out at on Saturday. Mr GBT is busy doing another of his jigsaws. For some reason he only ever does them during the holiday or when we're away. I suggested that he does them more often so that he gets that holiday feeling during a working week evening. We pick them up from charity shops, freecycle or swap them.

Well I've still be very much under the weather with this flu. I feel a lot stronger but still can't eat which is making me feel very sick and headachy. And tetchy. Very tetchy.
Still the wonderful news is I start training for a new job next week yayyyyyyy
It's something I've done before but obviously this is a new company so new/updated working practices. Was interviewed over the phone this evening and the recruiter seemed very positive. Means I have to travel to Belfast for three days and I have to go buy some decent work clothes ( don't think my chefs whites will be acceptable ) but after that, between earnings and expenses I should be earning pretty well for a lot less hours then I was doing cooking
I'm really looking forward to starting
The money is needed. I've not earned now since October, and although we aren't on our uppers, I'm struggling not having any personal money So I shall have to spend wisely on clothes, another pair of black trousers and a few jumpers should see me through. I've decent foot wear but I will need to get a hair cut this week as well. Still refusing to dye it so I shall just have to wear it up
Good thing about this job is I only have to commit to 4 shifts a week which still allows me to keep home, help mum, babysit and the million and one other things I do
Spending wise, well I've not a brass farthing so I can't spend lol. Food shopping has been bare minimum as we have a freezer full of reduced meat I picked up over Christmas. However the car tax and insurance is due, we need oil, the dog needs the vet and we are nearly out of coal. January is always a tough month, thank god we don't have Christmas debt to worry about
The rain hasn't stopped here in days.its getting very cold now, and the winds are picking up again, very stormy. Hubby has finished the new chicken house and run so they will be moved in this week. The new run is stoned so that will keep them dryer. Poor chooks are just so bedraggled. Only getting one egg every other day but that's better then none. Still getting veg from the garden which helps stretch the pennies. I near had heart failure seeing cauliflowers for a £1. Put it back and used a cabbage from the garden instead lol
Aril, we used to do jigsaws all the time. Once done hubby framed them for me and I hung them in the kitchen of my last house. I found them to be very therapeutic and as I've no craft skills at all, found they gave me a sense of achievement
JackiO, hope your cold improves soon. Take care of yourself0
