Time to Get Up and Go 2 I agree it might be easier to reduce caffeine over a couple of weeks. Going cold turkey will make you feel awful. Been there, done that.......the headaches were horrific.

Do it gently, drink plenty of water to flush out your system.
  • Good morning fellow fabbers, big welcome to all the new joiners.

I didn't quite manage what I wanted to do exercise wise last week, but it's interesting to see how my perception has changed, that a personal training session, a yoga class, a session of hill runs and a 9km run to work feels like a lazy week. Mind you, on the days I didn't exercise, I was very inactive last week, so I think that's the challenge - move more in general. I remember seeing a program on the BBC about the impact of exercise on weight loss and they said that people were prone to undo some of the good work they did by being lazier than usual on the days in between exercise and I can see a bit of that in me. Also need to be better at going for lunch at a sensible hour, not waiting till I am too hangry to make a sensible choice.

Sofarbehind, you will probably be surprised how quickly you can build up your time on couch to 5k - I've done it before more than once, and the last time from starting in March I was running 10k in July - and that was only managing 2 or 3 times a week running - more often 2. Might be you need to take a little off your pace to get the distance up, although I might have taken a bit too much off my pace... slow but steady me - definitely a tortoise rather than a hare! It's a good buzz once you get into it anyway, though I am not sure I really enjoy it during the first ten minutes at least.

Time to get up and go 2, trying to give up caffeine at the same time as doing a juice detox is quite tough. First time I tried to cut out caffeine after having cut back a bit first I got the worst possible headache imaginable. However, if you have the willpower to get through it, the juicing can be very effective. I did 2 weeks at Juicy Mountain which is Jason Vale's retreat in Turkey in May and am going back for another week this year. I found I was practically never hungry - they do enough smoothies with avocado in to keep you full and there is more vegetables than fruit in them so it doesn't muck up your blood sugar. I've never felt as good as I did after two weeks on juice - all the avocados had moisturised my skin from the inside out and I shifted quite a bit of weight too. I don't have the discipline to manage to do a 5 day diet of it at home, but I am going away for juice weekend at the end of the week with some of the ladies I was in Turkey with.

On the fabbing front, I got my hair cut and coloured on Saturday which is always a treat, my hairdresser is fab, quite a few of my friends go to him too now and I was introduced by another friend. Also managed to do a basic manicure whilst the colour was working, had broken a few nails so needed to file back short. Must be better at putting handcream on to keep them nice and moisturised, especially now it's getting properly cold here.

I treated myself to a bracelet and necklace at 50% off in the Swarovski sale on Saturday, do love their stuff.

Then yesterday I went to an antiques fair with my boyfriend and found a couple of stalls selling this lovely copper jewellery. It isn't quite old enough to count as antique - dates from the 40s-60s, made in America, but it's perfect for me, silver is too cold on me and some gold is too bright for me, rose gold is perfect but of course I can only afford plate, whereas copper I can afford solid. I got a lovely bracelet but there were lots more things I could have bought, including some hand enamelled necklaces. Another time perhaps.

I was admiring some glassware and had picked out a vase I was going to buy, and then the boyfriend insisted on getting it for me, which was unexpected and lovely of him. All still going wonderfully well there, I think we're both pleasantly surprised at how happy we are together. Only a month but it all feels incredibly right. He's said he wishes he could find a Tardis and travel back in time and meet me when we were both younger to save us from having missed so many years we could have had together. Not sure we'd have been right together when we were younger - but we're only in our forties, so if we look after each other we should have plenty of happy years to come. It seems we're inspiring each other to try to be more healthy which is great. The ex was fit because he loved his sport rather than because he cared about health, but he ate dreadfully so he wasn't much support on the diet front.

Right, I can feel I am starting to get cold as the sweat from this morning's PT session in the park does its job so time to hit the shower and get going! Have a good week all xx

Hi everyone, woke up early yesterday and the first thing I thought of was I need to clear out some of my clothes especially the ones I no longer wear.

So I tackled my large set of drawers. I can't believe how ruthless I was and managed to fill 3 large bags full of clothes.
I took them all downstairs and ironed them ready to go to the charity shop.
I only changed my mind on two tee shirts and put them back into the drawers.

I even had 4 items I have never worn that I bought in the Next sale but I know I am never going to wear them, they still had their tags on.

My husband can't believe I cleared out so much stuff so he is dropping them off today and I feel really better that I have made a start.

Next week I am going to tackle my wardrobe.

Indie - Great To hear that the romance Is going so well. He sounds fab.

Mary well done on the decluttering, you've mAde a cracking start.

I have just filled two big blue IKEA bags With china and Bric a brac ready to give to the lady who sells things for me. I think I have more or less finished decluttering clothes for now, paperwork done, just photos left. I'm hanging onto kitchenware, paintings and various household bits and pieces for the time being.

Still feeling a bit under the weather so just having a little rest now.

Sad news about David Bowie. He was one of the great heroes of my youth, along with John Lennon. Now they are both gone.

    RIP David.

Whilst I don't work in mental health or indeed do I know much about it, I do see a lot of poor mental health in the workplace. I'm truly thankful that I don't have ill health but I'm aware that it could happen to anyone, so I want to keep healthy and not get stressed out, so I'm going to focus in my outside of work interests like knitting.

I see so much work related stress it's unbelievable. It seems that although many employers have some sort of wellbeing policy but it's just box ticking. People are afraid to speak up partly because of the stigma of mental health but also as they don't want to admit to not coping or they'll be disciplined for it. It's a massive problem and so important that everyone tries to get a balance in their lives.
My aim this year is to get fit and healthy. I know I'll never get back down to a size 10 but I'd be very happy with a 14 (secretly wishing for 12 though :rotfl:)
At size 18 at the moment it's a long road ahead! Unfortunatly I'm not a solid 18 it's a very Un toned 18 pushing to the next size ;)

I'd agree that it's a good idea to set mini goals along the way on that long road but don't lose sight of that size 10 target if that's what you want. I went from pushing an 18 to a small 12 (or 10 in certain brands/styles).

I used to dress head to toe in black because it was 'slimming'. I started changing by introducing coloured tops and scarves. Colour looks so much better near the face than black and it's a fairly cheap way of experimenting.

I've been dressed fairly formally today for a meeting. I wore my Lush black pencil skirt, back textured jacket and a bright red long sleeved top underneath with opaques and black suede heels. I find it gives me confidence as well as feeling good. Dancing tonight so a fuller skirt is called for.

    Getting colder here too.:(

He is just lovely, am so glad we met. I only said good bye to him this morning and am missing him already.

On the workplace wellbeing thing, I think some are gradually getting better. Mine put in place a system of mental health champions who you can go and talk to if you feel it's all getting too much for you. It was originally set up after one of the partner group had a breakdown and was off work for a while and he wanted to make things different for others when he came back. I used it once and it did help - pointed out I was falling back into my old trap of being a bit too responsible and not dropping the tough issues onto the boss to solve.

They are also getting more serious about different work patterns - part time working and working from home etc - which in a professional services firm (audit, consultancy etc.) is a bit of a change. Am sure they do it because it makes financial sense - turnover was getting so high they were losing too many good experienced people, and all they have to sell is their staff.

Still got a way to go - too much macho attitudes to long hours in some quarters, but I have a good support network and know that if I feel it's getting a bit much I can find someone to talk to who can help me get some perspective.
  • Evening all :j

Sounds like it's been a good day for some clearing out things :T I can't wait to clear out my things but Ican count on 2 hands the amount of clothes that currently fit me so can't do a clear out yet. I'll just have to wait to clear out the bigger clothes once I loose the weight.
My whole wardrobe is black! With bags being my colour. I would love to wear skirts and I do have them but I struggle with what tops to wear as I have a very wobbly tummy. can help me fashion wise??

Is anyone watching channel 4 at the moment? How to lose weight well? Sounds interesting hopefully I might learn something, although I know I just need to eat xnd drink less and move more, simple really :rotfl:

Well there's good snd bad news today, the coke ban is going well! I usually have one when I wake up but I had lemon and mint water and walked the kids to school, I didn't really want one after that! I usually crave them at work bug I've not had any today and I don't really miss it! (I'm sure the cravings will hit soon though)

But..... the juicing failed. They were awful :( I struggled to drink the first one and then the soup was vile. I have a load frozen so I'm going to have them for breakfast and then healthy lunches and tea as I won't be able to sustain them tasting like that. I'm so mad at my lack of willpower. I have a lot of admiration to those that can drink them

Have a good evening everyone, I'm having an early night. I usually go up about 12/1am after doing housework, kids bags, lunches and a 30 min chill. I've been told lack of sleep doesn't help weight loss, so I'm heading off very early! Fingers crossed I cam get everything done in the morning
    A new start awaits!!

Time to get up and go 2 - Personally I feel that your plan B, juice for breakfast and then 2 healthy meals will be the best option long term, it may take you longer to loose weight, but that would be better than loosing weight quickly and then not being able to sustain it and putting it all back on again, which is what happens to so many.

I have only tried juices from my Nutribullet book, but to start I only used the recipes as a very rough guide, making them with more fruit than veg to get used to the taste, I only did one a day as I have a rather volatile digestive system TMI!!!!

ETA - I should add that I was juicing to try and improve poor health, not to loose weight. Donkeys years ago when I was overweight juicing was not mainstream, I lost it by going to WW or SW and then set myself an upper limit that I did not allow myself to go above (a little over goal weight).
The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)
  • Time to get up and go 2 - what were in the juices?

I've been doing juice plus for a couple of months and these taste great, currently doing two per day with snacks and evening meal. Think the powder helps to to taste nice.

Been doing well with the running, did a 5 mile run yesterday, felt really good.

I juice fairly regularly (hate cleaning the juicer though, so tend to go through phases) and try to alternate with smoothies (juices remove most of the fibre). I'm now pretty good at having mostly vegetables rather than fruit in my juices as my tastebuds have adapted.

As has been mentioned, you do need to be careful if there is too much fruit - not good for your blood sugar levels or your liver!

7 mile run today. I have no idea what's going on, as I was struggling so much to do 3 miles before Christmas, and now I'm happily doing these longer runs (if only time wasn't a constraint). I'm trying to work out how to add distance without adding in yet another hill, but I suspect I'll just have to bite the bullet - I currently have two big hills and one little one. I'm running pretty slowly at the moment due to the mud, but I'm outside and moving :) And I feel FABULOUS :)
