You can get tights for wearing with sandals :) They have open toes. And then you could have some fab dark blue glittery toenails!

And no, you're DEFINITELY not too old.

I thought blue nails with the gold sandals too. :)
I have a couple of questions: where are you planning to wear the dress? And it's a bit difficult to tell from the link how dressy/lacy the dress is.

If I was going out just for dinner I'd wear the black suede shoes with sheer black tights. Those shoes would be more :money: too. I find black suede shoes very versatile.
If you're going dancing/clubbing then the sandals are better.
You could buy both and try them on with the dress and see what you think
Sometimes you can get the tights with bare toes in TKMaxx.

Good to see you posting. :)
  • Thanks for the welcome:)

I have decided to have a fabbing day today.... I'm starting a new job next week after being 'retired' for almost two years so I need a lot of work!

I'm going to defur, do my eyebrows, pedicure, shower, exfoliate, hair mask, facemask and moisturise. I am going to spend the day chillaxing and concentrating on being fab!;)

Ooh, I hadn't even considered dark blue polish! Thanks for the suggestions.
The gold sandals are my faves so I'll have to check out the toeless tights (although I've got to say the idea sounds odd to me :D).
The dress is quite lacy with a shift part underneath - the Christmas do is usually held at a hotel and people do proper "party" outfits, but we've been known to carry on out to pubs/clubs later - which is why I've gone for the block heels :rotfl:

@squirrelgirl: De-furring is always such a pain, but it instantly makes you feel more glam - even if you're sitting around in pjs :D

    Have a fab day everyone!

    Hello angry bear

I certainly wouldn't say you are too old for that dress - it doesn't look too short and sleeves always make a dress a bit more flattering - I do have some sleeveless dresses but at my age (I am 9 years older than you) I don't feel that comfortable with completely bare arms.

I wouldn't go for the bare legs option this time of year. I know the rich and famous often seem to avoid tights like the plague, but they can afford to have a taxi take them door to door and never queue to get in anywhere. Less practical if you have to travel on public transport or walk etc, goosebumps aren't a good look, and tights can often minimize blister risk in new shoes. Mind you, I am "curvy" enough that bare legs aren't that comfortable anyway - too in danger of getting a bit of chafing on the inner thighs!

Personally I don't do the sandals with tights look though I know there are the open toe tights you can use. I will do nude fishnets with sandals, but I think that would be too busy a look with lace - works better with vintage style dresses.

As for gold v black shoes, I guess it depends if you can afford to buy a pair just for the night out you have planned and if not how many nights out you have. Black is more versatile for night and day, could even be worn to work, gold really for nights out. I have a couple of pairs of gold shoes and they have the advantage of acting as a good neutral for nights out - go with most things - and they put a smile on my face in a way a more sensible colour wouldn't. The ones you've picked out aren't exactly break the bank price so I would probably go for gold.

I've had further thoughts about your shoes angrybear as I can see the dress better today than I could on my phone.

What about black or silver sandals which might tone better with the dress than gold? You can get sparkly designs including sparkly shoes.

The tights without toes work a bit like toe post flip flops and you can buy them cheaply in Peacocks or Asda has a different sort with no toes at all. Indie is right about celebrities being able to wear 'car to bar' outfits which wouldn't suit us lesser mortals. That's one of the reasons I often wear ballet pumps when I'm using public transport (or carry a pair with me if I know I'm likely to walk at some point in the night). But the dress isn't too short so you probably wouldn't be that cold with bare legs.

squirrel, it sounds like the new job is just the thing you need to motivate you. Hope you have a great day taking care of you. Sometimes the very act of pampering makes you feel better even if seeing results takes a bit little longer. I know I feel that way when I take care moisturising. What sort of dress code will you have in your new job?

Not much fabbing planned here today. I need to go out later to buy paint but B&Q is opposite Matalan so I might browse there. It's not that I need anything really but I like to see what's about. Matalan can be good for some home stuff too so I might see something in that dept. LL, at the moment I have a teal coloured throw (more a quilt really) which gives a great extra layer when it's really cold so I'm reluctant to lose it. I also have a small, round table that we use for breakfast (I'm indulged:o) so I'll need to make a new cloth for that as it matches the current wallpaper. When I've decided on the fabric for the cloth I can start to think of throws and cushions that will tone.

Still bright here and set to reach a whole 11 degrees!

Yep, I've been giving silver some thought too, and all my jewelry is silver :/. At this point I may just order a selection, try them on to see which I like the look of and am comfortable in then return the rejects :D

I think I'll have to try some on too see what I think.

Just proves you don't have to spend a fortune to look good!:money::rotfl:

I'm all showered, defuzzed and creamed. I'll do my make up later when I go to Sainsbury's (you don't have to live in Derbyshire to live the high life;)).

In emptying some bedroom cupboards/shelves for the decorating I've culled some books and also lots of old jeans. So I'll fit in a trip to the CS too.

I tried some jeans on in Matalan yesterday. They fitted well and were comfortable but sadly too short and this particular style doesn't come in choices of leg length:(. So I'll have to keep looking.

I also popped into Home Bargains as since my hairdresser moved I don't go near there without a special trip. They had the Garnier gradual tanning lotion at about half the price of Sainsbury's and one ready mixed with moisturiser in the Palmers Cocoa butter range. I've been using gradual tanner mixed with moisturiser since July to keep a bit of colour. It's not enough for my face at this time of the year but it's good for keeping my arms and legs a good colour. I thought I'd keep it up in case I decide to wear anything sleeveless to Christmas parties.

Another thing I've noticed since having the sessions at Clarins is that I'm not using so much product. I've copied what they do: put a dab of moisturiser (or body lotion) on my hands, rub then clap my palms together and pat it onto my face (or body) before patting/smoothing it in.

Just going to have a bit of lunch then off to hit the town!:rotfl:

Casual and warm fabbing today for my visit to the hairdresser, followed by my usual market visit. Skinny denims, flowery memory foam trainers, V neck black cashmere jumper under lightweight fleece zipper, all snuggled under my warm padded coat and fuchsia pashmina. Played around with some new eye makeup looks, all good except that I have a ghastly cold sore so could only smear a little lippie on with my finger:(

Had a bad time with IBS for the last couple of weeks, struggling to find things that don't upset me and lost even more weight, now just in the underweight category, not a good look in my late 60's. I will get it sorted, but it is so tedious:(
