Wow! Michelle Obama, that's compliment indeed!:T I agree about your birthday chanie. This year's different with the LO starting school so do something on the day but set aside another day for treating yourself. I know you do English Heritage. What sort of thing would be part of an ideal day out for you?
Good ideamaman, I could visit an English Heritage site, which would be nice to do without the children to manage.
I hope you have a nice trip tomorrow with OH. Your outfit sounds very chic. I hope you have nice weather for it.0 -

Good evening ladies, thank you for views on the hair style, I just need to find a good hairdresser to do the job.I will look into buying a styler with a brush.
Maman, I used to have my eyebrows waxed but over the years the hair did not grow back! I still have brows but not as they should be.I will look at your brow pencil and also you tube, I don't want to end up with scouse brows (no offence ) at my age!
Have a lovely day tomorrow, I love the Cotswold area.
Chanie, I have never been but maybe Somerset House??

Well Maman tonight I did watch a bit of tv, but only a bit. :rotfl:
I shall still watch some TV because I enjoy it and there is often some great programming lurking in the background. However, I shall be more selective.
I watched the Eat Well programme, a good one tonight and I am also watching Versailles.
I always loved that particular period of history and always found the the "Sun King" (Louis XIV) fascinating. Alledgedly he was very fond of ballet, more or less making it the art form it is today. Apparently he danced for at least an hour every day. After the programme they have a short segment with a couple of history experts who give you a bit of background. They are a hoot, often very saucy.
What shall I do with my time, what shall I make. Well I have dug my jewellery stuff out so I'm going to have a go at that first. But tonight I decided to finally get to grips with Groupon.
I bought three things........A meat order from Muscle Foods - I have seen it recommended on some of these threads. I have ordered dance lessons......10 for £19. It's called Ceroc ..... my friend in Devon goes and loves it. Apparently they are nationwide and we have one in Derby so I thought I'd give it a go. Much more fun than a horrid gym full of sweaty men. ......:rotfl:
The other thing I bought was a years pass for VIP airport lounges. Well I do like to travel in comfort and styleI have used some unspent birthday money for that.
I am also looking at a special treat for DS1s birthday. He is a real adrenaline junkie and sports mad. It's an adventure day in the Peak District - rock climbing, caving, zip lining or whatever they call it - right up his street. I just need to check with DIL to see if she wants to go too. I doubt it she's not really an outdoors kind of girl so Ill probably treat DS2 so they can have a "brother bonding day".
Perhaps she and I could go on a Spa day.
Why did I not get into groupon before. They have some amazing bargains......
I see a whole new world opening up to me. :rotfl. Spa days, beauty treatments, meals out, helicopter rides......0 -
Twinnie - I overplucked my brows when I was young. I use a powder and a brush on my brows rather pencil. I find a get a "gentler" less obvious look. My brows are very sparse now and pencil does give me a bit of a "Scouse Brow".
The other thing I find is that having white hair you do have to be careful not to go too dark with your brows. THe Alistair Darling look really doesn't suit me.:rotfl:0 -
LL I am enjoying watching lots of TV, programmes and films I had recorded and time on my Facebook account as I am on holiday. I also have time for lots of reading and trips to places that interest me.
Yes I agree that Michelle is very attractive, but I do not believe that I am in her league. He did not seem to want to chat me up, just to pay me the compliment. I am very good at deflecting the interest of men and I will get selectively death when I hear 'chat up lines' so can not remember any really.
I love your husband's 1st words to you.
I hope you enjoy your Ceroc dance lessons.
I love Groupon. I go through my Quidco account so that I can also earn cashback on my Groupon deals.
Chanie and Carmen, the Imperial War Museum is well worth a visit. I intend to make a 2nd visit in the near future. There is so much to see and enjoy. The new cafe is so well stocked and very clean and inviting.
Carmen, Ladies, please learn to accept compliments from others. I did a self confidence building course a few years ago and it was my tutor's words that made me see why women should accept compliments. She said 'you insult the giver of a compliment if you do not accept the compliment given to you with grace'. Since hearing her words I have been glad to accept compliments without being flippant or off hand with the giver of the compliment.
Maman if only I had the toned, athletic body of Michelle. :rotfl:
I hope you regain your energy soon and enjoy your trip with your OH.0 -
Wow....you can buy Groupon via Quidco. I had no idea.....it just gets better. :rotfl:
Well day 2 of my new "make better use of the evening"........
I have been sorting out my DIY supplies and small tools. Ds2 treated himself to an interlocking storage system so, whilst watching tv, I spent a happy couple of hours sorting out nails, screws and fixings, putting them all into neat little compartments. Very satisfying. :rotfl:
Sugarbaby - I was taught to accept compliments gracefully too on one of my personal development/sales courses.
If you find it difficult and feel embarrassed at receiving compliments then it helps to put yourself in the shoes of the person paying the compliment. Why would you want to upset, offend or embarrass them. A simple "thank you" is all you need to say.
If I'm being flirty then I will say something like. "Why thank you, you are very kind" and then touch or gently squeeze their arm. I always try to bear in mind that sometimes people are very shy and it's not always easy to pluck up courage to pay a compliment.
The complimentor has taken a risk and stuck their neck out so I would never be offhand or rude. Obviously some men chuck compliments around with gay abandon and some can be insincere but on balance I think most are pretty genuine.
I also always thank men who still display what I call "olde world gallantry" - opening doors, holding my chair, standing up when introduced etc.
Of course I would thank females who hold a door open for me too......although it's depressing how many people don't thank me when I hold a door for them.:rotfl:
I noticed that DILs male Venezuelan relatives were all very traditionally gallant towards women and also extremely courteous.
I know some women say they find compliments and gallantry patronising or a symbol of patriarchy and oppression but I don't see it that way. I think that's a bit OTT and I feel sorry for men when they get that kind of response.
I think modern men are often in a no win situation - damned if they do, and damned if they don't.
No wonder modern dating is such a minefield and so many of both sexes get so despondent and give up.0 -
Good evening ladies,
It's such a lovely evening I decided to do a bit of star gazing and watch the ISS pass over, it is very bright tonight so easy to spot.
Twinnie, yes my brow are sparse and the 'tail' has almost disappeared. Do these products stay put once on?
A spa day sounds wonderful.
Sugar, I have never knowingly offended anyone that has paid me a compliment. As they are mostly from men I have learnt from experience to accept and quickly move on.I know women that fall in 'love' if they receive a compliment :rotfl:
I am off to the dentist in the morning...groan! I forgot and had garlic tonight :rotfl:

Hello Ladies,
I get so many compliments from men, that they tend to lose their value. The most valued compliments I receive are from other women or children. I will never forget when I was stopped on a local street by 2 young black boys aged about 9 or 10 and one approached me and said 'my cousin thinks you are really pretty'. I said 'tell your cousin I said thank you'. Best compliment I received that whole year, as neither of them had any other motive other than to pay me a compliment.
Carmen, oh dear I feel sorry for your dentist because of the garlic you ate today
I went to see the preview of the documentary 'The Fall' at The Ritzy cinema in Brixton tonight. The 90 minutes flew past, as I was totally engaged with the film and found the stories of Zola Budd and Mary Decker and what happened before and after their 1984 Olympic collision on the track totally rivetting. I would highly recommend this documentary. It is insightful and thought provoking and you learn so much about these 2 renowned women athletes. :T
There was a Q & A session after the film with Zola Budd, Mary Decker and the Director Daniel Gordon. I had a short one to one conversation with Mary Decker after the Q & A.
I wore my 3 quarter sleeved purple top that has the diamond shape of large purple glass beads on the front, with one of my full black pull on gored skirts and my black button detail leather Van Dal sling backs. I took my everyday black leather handbag and my black Wallis rain coat. I wore my purple sandstone hearts and silver jewellery with my silver and diamonique ring and my stainless steel and diamond Ingersoll watch. I put on lots of perfume to finish off my outfit.
I got complimented on my perfume by another older woman on the bus on the way home. I thanked her and then she wanted to know exactly what perfume I was wearing.0 -
That film you saw yesterday sugarbaby is on Sky tonight for anyone who subscribes. It was recommended in my newspaper this morning. Wow! You are doing some really interesting things with your holiday.
Just realised that there are reduced fares on the trains throughout the school holidays and into September so I'll definitely be taking a trip up to London very soon.
We had a good day in the Cotswolds yesterday: lunch in Cheltenham, tea in Burford and then a stroll around the village where my grandfather's family originates from. Ate far too much but otherwise very enjoyable.
A friend of mine uses Benefit Brow Zings which is a powder eyebrow shaper Carmen. I'd suggest you go to a make up counter at a quiet time and get them to try it out on you.
Today we've been to Pizza Express with DD2 and DGD2. I rarely eat pizza but I like it there as it's more of a grown up restaurant than somewhere like Pizza Hut. DD had vouchers to use up so worked out quite reasonable.
I treated myself to a white tee shirt from Jack Wills. They're not the cheapest but I'm so pleased with my grey one from last year that I thought why not. I'm wearing the grey one today with navy trousers and espadrilles.
It's been dull and muggy today but at least it's not cold.:)0
