from another forum I visit a guy builds washer for a living and fixes them , either way hes the resident forum expert and LG seem a good option for anybody with a £400 budget , he does often explain why aswellpeachyprice wrote: »And after that same 14 years my sister is on her 2nd Miele. They don't ALL last 20 years, her first one didn't last as long as my LG.
I love my LG. Still can't believe i've had it 7 years without one breakdown. I'd not go longer than 18 months between repairs with any of my previous machines.0 -

Thanks. I'll look at that option, but I'm going more towards the idea that there isn't a decent mid price option so I'm wondering if paying £ 400 is just a waste of the extra.0 -
See what post Christmas offers John Lewis have on their own brand (which is an AEG), Bosch and Siemens.
We picked up a good deal on a Siemens from them this time last year. Less than £300 and a five year warranty.0 -
Look for one with a decent warranty of 5 years or more.
You see a lot of low/mid range models from German brands, selling for a premium over regular/cheaper brands, that still only come with warranties of just 2 or 3 years. You end up paying a premium for the brand name but with no real guarantee that their product will last any longer, when some regular brand's are now offering 5 year warranties.
For example, you pick up a Samsung Ecobubble machine £350, delivered, Inc 5 year guarantee.
Yep I'm struggling to find 5 year guarentee0 -
We have had a LG direct drive 7kg, all singing & dancing buttons to press although it is very easy to use. Our machine is over 12 years old going strong but now noisier on fast spin. Considering replacing with another LG without doubt a fantastic machine with a 5 year guarantee + 10 years on the direct motor.
A great site to visit is "Marks electrical" 2 purchases of different items from this firm without any problems and super speedy delivery, they deliver almost anywhere in their own vehicles with their own staff free of charge.0 -
AEG is not German built or designed, it's just a brand of Electrolux...so basically a Hotpoint with a different badge on it. Many of the lower end Bosch machines are now built at their Spanish Balay factory, which doesn't mean that they are necessarily inferior. Most, if not all of the John Lewis branded white goods are AEG, possibly some Whirlpool?
Mile are well engineered and the parts can all be replaced (i.e. no sealed tubs like almost all other manufacturers now use), but the downside is the extremely high cost of parts and repair when they do eventually go wrong. For that reason I would not consider a Miele without at least a 5 year warranty.
Your options are pretty much limited to Bosch or Siemens at that price point, which will give you a 2 year warranty. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Before getting excited and splashing cash on a Miele machine, watch this video and ask yourself if you really want to pay a premium price tag for the likes of Miele.0

Me too. I replaced my original one because I wanted a different colour, I gave it to a friend and it's still going strong, that one is now 14, the one I have is 9 years old.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
We have had an LG Direct Drive for the past 3 yrs and although its early days we are really pleased with it. Its so quiet and balanced and iirc the machine weighs the washing and centres the load in the machine so it always runs in balance.
I like the direct drive motor too, no belt to replace and a 10yr warranty on the motor must mean they have some confidence in their product.0 -
Ah the washing machine saga. You will let us know when you finally purchase won't you? Perhaps we should have a discussion about powder, gel or capsules....
Anyway although I wouldn't buy this because it's too pricey for my criteria:

seems to fulfill yours. Personally 7kg isn't enough but this does have a 5 year warranty and is white. Don't know where it's made but it's certainly not Germany.
Ha!
From someone who starts a thread about their overflowing toilet!
(Explains a lot actually..)
If you find it so tiresome I suggest you don't contribute to this thread .0
