New washing machine needed

If you have £500 to spend then you really are so close to a Miele, they start at £649 on the Miele website.
When you have your budget it would kind of be silly not to find the extra as a Miele washing machine is significantly better at washing than any other machine around this price and will last at least twice as long but more likely 3 times longer!
I fear you would regret buying anything else.

450 max s really what I'd rather pay at this time of year0 -
Yes you're right .
I've also seen this one, though not made in Germany is looking a favourite maybe at the moment.

This is exactly the sort of machine I wouldn't buy. It's right in between budget and Miele.
When it goes wrong, as of course they all do, the cost to fix is probably around £150. That's a difficult decision as to whether to repair or replace, especially if it's a few years old. If it was a £1000 Miele then it's obvious - repair. If it's a £250 XXXX then replace. The mid-range price makes it a real 50/50 as to this choice.
Just my 2p worth. I would say that if you opt budget end, do lots of research as to owners' opinions -Which? can help with "how good is it on 1 test wash" but not how it is after the 100th.0 -

£500 is nowhere near £649, never mind "so close"!"There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0 -

Well it's a lot closer than £400!
And if you spread the £149 difference over the 20 year life expectancy then that works out at £7.50 a year extra - that seems pretty close to me and worth every extra penny!

I'd do a comparison between that and an entry level Siemens. Looking at it the only difference between ours which was less than £300 is a 1kg extra load capacity and maybe a few more programmes you will probably never use.0 -
I hope Miele make better washing machines than they do vacuum cleaners.
We recently bought a Miele vacuum cleaner and although it has good suction its no better than our old Dyson.
The "bag full" indicator always shows the bag full even with a new bag fitted, then it has 3 different filters as well to replace at certain times so overall I wish we still had the old Dyson. Over the coarse of the next few years we will be spending a considerable amount on filters and bags for a vacuum that cleans no better than a £100 cheapy.0 -
Or look at it this way.
Sure from £500 to £649 is a 30% increase but at least it's not 100%!
You also have to consider the cost per year and a Miele will always be the cheapest washing machines.
If you spend £500 on another brand of machine which will probably last up to 8 years, that's £63 per year. Where as a Miele is built to last 20 years, but let's be cautious and say it will last 15 years, £649 ÷ 15 = £42 per year. Not to mention that the Miele is better at washing your clothes, will be quieter, more economical, quicker and far more environmentally responsible than any other brand, to mention only a few other benefits!
When you look at the bigger picture to me it's a 'no brainer'!

Look at the hotpoint clearance site and spend a bit of time googling individual model reviews.
You may also be able to use a discount code if there are any still around. I think the last one I used was extra30off or something similar.

Couple of points:
The Miele must be far quieter than your old Dyson.
3 Filters? Are you sure normally you have the cloth bag, then the pre motor filter then the exhaust filter. These filters come with every set of 5 replacement bags so it's not like you have to pay extra for them. And change both filters either with the first new bag or the last in the set. Doesn't the Dyson need new filters that cost quite a lot?
It's a bag change indicator not a bag full indicator. If you check the instructions it will say that it will show when in operation but to actually check if the bag needs changing then remove the hose from the actual body of the cleaner then turn on to full power, then if the indicator fills the window then it needs changing otherwise it's fine. So basically ignore the indicator during actual use as it will always say the bag needs changing.

Look for one with a decent warranty of 5 years or more.
You see a lot of low/mid range models from German brands, selling for a premium over regular/cheaper brands, that still only come with warranties of just 2 or 3 years. You end up paying a premium for the brand name but with no real guarantee that their product will last any longer, when some regular brand's are now offering 5 year warranties.
For example, you pick up a Samsung Ecobubble machine £350, delivered, Inc 5 year guarantee.0
