Any advice would be great. I believe I need to buy a German made machine, I can't afford a Miele this time so any advice or deals would be good . Thanks in advance

Hi
How much can you afford then?

See what post Christmas offers John Lewis have on their own brand (which is an AEG), Bosch and Siemens.
We picked up a good deal on a Siemens from them this time last year. Less than £300 and a five year warranty.0 -

We have a Bosch, 3 years old, and are pleased with it.
In 1998 when DS got married we bought them a Bosch, It's now coming up on 18 years old and still going strong.
Gets a lot of use these days as they have 2 children ages 10 and 6.0 -
We've had our present Bosch for over 5 years. It was a special model, where Bosch marketed a basic range model with extras from the middle range, but at basic model price.
However, the one before didn't last as long; suddenly blowing one day. It was irreparable, but the repairer said it had a problem he'd never seen before, in his long career,so in no way detracts from the Brand.
Both machines have been quieter, even on spin, than our three previous machines. These were all Creda, for whom my husband worked ,so we got them cheaply, but they really lasted well, back in the days before mass buyouts by larger groups.
It's worth checking for local outlets that sell seconds. Some may simply have a scratch or dent , which won't show when the appliance is in place.0 -
I have a direct drive LG steam one that has an 11kg drum. It was expensive but i've had it on, usually at least twice a day since I got it in 2009 and it's never broke down once. Since I got my own place in 1987 i've had 6 Hotpoints as i'm usually very hard on washing machines. I can't believe this one has been going so long with not even a breakdown!
I think they're a wee bit cheaper now though. I got a bargain at the time of mine, and it was £800, other places were selling them for up to £1100. You can get cheaper models that don't have the steam setting and ones with smaller capacities but are still direct drive. I used to have my brushes replaced every 18 months or so in my old machines. This one doesn't have any.
These are cheaper models. They have good reviews. http://www.johnlewis.com/lg-f14b8qda-freestanding-washing-machine-7kg-load-a-energy-rating-1400-rpm-spin-white/p2003162

I haven't looked at prices yet, but I'm thinking around the £500 mark?
There's only two of us and the only feature I'd like is the 30 degree or woollens wash. Maybe something that's quietish?
I don't know much about other useful features but ive read to buy a German make but to be sure the model is made in Germany .I'd be grateful for any insight into which features are needed or otherwise .id rather buy from John Lewis overall0 -
Not many are, according to

With washing machines, the choice can be between a really top notch £800 one that will last 10 years or more, or risk a £250 model that may last 10 years but if it lasts 3 or 4 then you've still saved money.
I am more than happy with my fairly cheapo Beko (which of course I researched first before buying) made in the home of engineering....Turkey.0 -
Hi
If you have £500 to spend then you really are so close to a Miele, they start at £649 on the Miele website.
When you have your budget it would kind of be silly not to find the extra as a Miele washing machine is significantly better at washing than any other machine around this price and will last at least twice as long but more likely 3 times longer!
I fear you would regret buying anything else.

Yes you're right .
I've also seen this one, though not made in Germany is looking a favourite maybe at the moment.
