I have sorted through dds' toy/play corner. One box of old paper gone, small grocery bag of garbage/broken/half-a-pair/annoying/etc bits gone, put well at the bottom of the bin bag! The box with old paper has also been firmly closed and put in the garage. Felt tip pens sorted, drawing/colouring books sorted. Elsa wig combed, not perfect yet, but better than it was (youngest had removed blue ribbon to put in own hair, Elsa braid was completely knotted).
    I'll get there, slowly....

    :) Morning all.

Back at the homestead since yesterday afternoon. I'm not going to continue to play MinsGame due to a week's absence and not having enough Stuff (most of mine being of the category of use it up and don't replace it) but I am still doing some kondo-ing.

Have got a bag of books and a couple of videos ready to go. We watched one of the video mountain at the folks' a couple of evenings ago and they agreed it could be donated. It's a classic movie and some people still have VCRs or the hybrid DVD/VCR machines, so good to get it out there whilst there is still something capable of playing it! Only, can't take the donations in the pouring rain, so will have to wait for that to go, 36 hours and counting here.

I'm busy helping my pal in the [STRIKE]junk shop [/STRIKE] err very reasonably-priced antiques emporium this morning for a couple of hours. I think I'll be minding the front shop whilst he is out the back unblocking the drain which is backing up indoors, based on yesterday's conversation.

    Hope everyone is well
GQ as long as you enjoy doing it don't knock it. Everyone's joy ringers are different and who's to judge what floats someone else's boat.
Dh is outside Washing the car before it starts to rain as he does like a clean car and gets frustrated if he doesn't get it washed before the rain comes.
Loads got Kondoed yesterday, I took everything out of two of his cupboards and sorted it all into piles so it was easy to go through. The amount of DVDs we have is ridiculous. Ideally we need to buy a DVD/video player/ recorder so that we can convert the old vis tpaes we recorded of the kids onto discs. Also Dh has loads of martial arts training tapes he's made of him and his friends while they were training and really they need backing up onto disc. I suggested we get each other half shares in one for Christmas guessing they'd be about £160 but they ae around the £300 mark now EKKK.

Another pair of shoes went in the CS bag, yesterday as I wore them for work and they pinched and gave me a blister. No joy in that!

Better make a move, we want to do the CS run once the cars washed. We are then going to go through fleeces and coats stored in spare room this afternoon so that should start another bag off.

    Have a great weekend all

Good morning all and happy kondo-ing.

    Looks like another fine day.

I can't find a chazzer willing to take videos now. Many have signs on the door saying that they don't

Wow, that's a lot. Some places offer a service to do the conversion. Might be cheaper?
I wanna be in the room where it happens

:) I've seen such signage in other parts of the country. Not seen it here but have asked. Several chazzers here will take them as, if they can't sell them to the public, they can get a little for them from waste merchants.

I exercise common sense and release them in ones or twos, rather than sic a boxful on the chazzer all at once.

I once saw an eye-watering estimate of how many VCR cassettes are believed to be in the nation's homes. Can't recall the exact figure but it was astonishing. These items will be surfacing for decades to come and it would be great if there was an easy, nationally-accessible recycling scheme for them.

  • Chazzers round here won't take them. I have got rid of mine, only had a handful anyway and I rarely watched them. There are several web tutorials showing how you can unravel the tape and crochet bags, rugs etc from it. Thankfully I had an outbreak of common sense before I added another UFO to my planetarium of craft projects (yes, I did contemplate it for a nanosecond).

Re manual typewriters; having once worked in the complaints industry I can tell you that there are plenty left. They are usually used by people who also copy their letters to HM The Queen, The Prime Minister and The Head of Scotland Yard. Sometimes they hit the 'e' key so hard that it makes a little hole in the paper. :rotfl:

I have had a busy week, so not had time to check how peoples mins game is going but judging by the long lists i have just read i can visualise the space and the light headed feeling when things have been freed!

The sun is shining here so i am hoping that this sparks a positive and productive mood for me to catch up on my mins game as we are now into the last 50% so i am hoping as i did mine in reverse that the smaller amounts will mean even if i have a hectic day i can get them done. i was going to do some last night but after kondoing some wine felt the urge to watch a film instead!

I have not calculated how many things to day but to get me started i have:
used up a book from the pile for book art for DD craft fair
thrown out the dried up plums from fridge that everyone has abandoned
4 more odd pencils to guides tub

    ready, steady. go ......

Our kindergarten still accepts children's films on vhs, which they show during the after school care, usually in the last half hour before they close. The nice thing about vhs is, that it will pick up from where it stopped, rather than having to search for he exact point.
Dd1 is at her first horseriding class, dd2 is in the shower (bad mum ran out of wash cloths:( ), laundry is running, dh is trying out his beamer with Jungle Book in HD 3D.
Lots of rumours at work, including about large reorganisation and relocation to neighbouring country..... If true, I will have plenty of time to kondo :)

  • I was looking at sending a box of recordable VHS tapes to a recycling not for profit organisation, only for them to announce they are no longer taking magnetic tape items, and then for them to later announce they are no longer donations from the public full stop.
