Agree on the plastic. Our plastic recycling escalates when DD is home, I don't know how she generates so much.

It is hard to give it up though.

I am trying very hard with water bottles - and i don't drink other soft drinks so i should be able to cut that (almost) completely (with a bit of effort).

    Milk is harder.

As are all the plastic bags that things like pasta, dried fruit, rice etc come in.

and then there's shampoo and other toiletries.....

i seem to use a lot of cling film. I don't really know how to stop that....

Not at home until later today so Min's game will have to wait till then. it may roll over to tomorrow.
I wanna be in the room where it happens

I think Staples take ink cartridges for recycling.

  • I went through the pens and threw away the ones that weren't working. We have loads of them and I put them in a box and forgot about them. I get them free with charity letters and I'm not sure if I should just throw them away as I don't write much down on paper anyway these days.

I am trying to get a system of makeup/beauty products that are all high quality, but just one of each. I used up the end of some sweet almond oil today and I have some hemp seed oil and some raw shea butter to experiment with as I haven't used either before.

I just remembered that when my sil was looking after dds and did dd2's hair, the bottle with special product was nearly finished, and she wanted to leave it and continue with a bottle of different product. She did not want to finish the first bottle, otherwise I would have less choice. Uhhhhm. I finished it yesterday and am glad it is gone.

I feel an urge to get things finished. DH will go to his home country for four weeks on a month's time, and tomorrow I think I will hear that my job will end next year. My feelings are mixed about that: I don't mind loosing this particular job, but will miss the salary, and don't know what I want to do next. Preferably not the same type of work.

    :) Afternoon all.

I'm nowhere near a beach or I'd gladly participate, it's a very worthwhile cause. Good thoughts to anyone who is able to participate.

It's hard to eliminate plastics, isn't it? There are websites dedicated to this very subject, for those who want to try, a quick seach will find a number of them.

For those who can't, I wonder if looking to buy things in larger packets, such as a 3 kg bag of pasta instead of a number of 500g packets, or a one litre shampoo instead of a number at 350/ 400 cl, might be a way forward? I do know switching to a crystal deodorant has eliminated several roll-ons from the recycling stream this year and no sign of it being worn out after 9 + months' usage.

As is often true of the woo factor, plastics are on my mind today, as I have had to empty out a wall cupboard. Short version of a long and involved and tedious story, it that there is a water leak next door and moisture is wicking through the party wall into my kitchen.

So, had everything outta there, and the middle shelf is my plastics shelf. I'm studying on some of the sizes and types of plastic containers and wondering if they best reflect my needs. There are cast-offs from the maternal home plus some charity shop purchases. I have been lucky enough to make out like a bandit on L & L products and now think that some less great ones can go.

Weather is pretty unstable here but went briefly to my allotment to offload rotables. I also dealt with a small problem which I discovered on the flying visit I made up there the day before I went away.

I have a conventional apex-roofed 6 x 8 ft garden shed, the generic thing seen in millions of back gardens. Mine has a hidden secret, in that there are two slings hanging from cuphooks up in the apex, which holds bundles of garden canes up and out of the way.

Both slings used to be old bicycle inner tubes. The one nearest the door perished some time ago and was replaced by the leather shoulderstrap from a handbag which was being junked. The other one failed last week and I dropped my hand onto a shoulderstrap from a holdall which had itself been junked, back at the parental home. So that's now in position and the canes are once again up in the apex and out of the way.

Nipped into a supermarket today for a couple of items and dropped off two batteries into the recycling and am about to head off to the library to return the two books I borrowed from the market town I visited last Monday.

  • DS2 was helping clean off stuff parked on top of the sewing machine cabinet this morning. He pick up a little bottle and said 'rose room freshener oil'. (I never liked the smell but have kept it because it's nearly full) I told him I really didn't like it and he winged it across the room into the trash can. Problem solved. I'm finding clearing stuff with him works better for me. I must be related to GQ's mother. :D

:) I'm sure she'd be honoured to claim you as a rellie, mila! She always jokes that she doesn't mind clearing up, as long as she's not there when it happens.

Am just having a teabreak from shuffling Stuff from the kitchen cupboards into shopping bags on the floor. By golly, do I get sick of Stuff and feel like living with almost nothing - at times - when something is going wrong, every extra item underfoot is a nuisance.

I'm likely to be having a surveyor from my landlord around this week (tbc) so will need to be tidy for that. With bags of kitchen stuff on the floor - grrr!

Have stuck some Stuff on freegle, can't be arrised to put it back in the cupboard when things have eventually dried out.

  • Ended up kondoing a third of a jar of marmalade. Took me quite by surprise - it appears to have begun slowly fermenting by the smell of it. Probably due to the run of hot weather. Anyway, it was very pungent so it's gone, to be on the safe side.

Dropped a saucepan lid, glass, it didn't shatter but the knob did and I was ruffled because it's my everyday go-to pan from a set of three. Anyhow, a flash of inspiration arrived and I borrowed the knob from the largest, seldom-used pan, so my saucepan status is now back to normal, pending the purchase of a replacement knob for the big pan.

Knobs and spare lids are of course things the maintream c/shops don't contemplate putting out, as they 'won't sell.' So I guess I'll splash out and buy a new one. Oh, for the days of corner-shop ironmongers! Fleabay it will have to be, I suspect, if only to save trudging pointlessly round the shops.
