  • Oh, Siebrie, that's awful. The problem now is that the rest of you may have survivor's guilt and have lost faith in the organisation... :(

Life staggers on here... 1 wodge of additional paper recycling, 4 CD's to the sale pile and 4 parcels out; 3 of the parcels weren't my stuff but the last one was and it was 6 items. So another 14 for 142 out. I know I still have a way to go... :D

Going away on holiday for 2 weeks so Kondoing and the mins game will come to a shuddering halt!!
I have sorted out a number of large and small items that I shall put on fleabay etc when we get home so that will be something. I have a cheap pair of shoes that have been worn almost to death - think I'll probably finish them up on holiday and not bring them back lol!
Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle
  • GQ, I do feel for you. It's a horrible problem to have. Hope they get the leak fixed soon, then at least the source of it will be stopped.

Will the landlords insurance cover the damage and decoration costs, due to the water migrating in from another property? Or will it come under the other tenant's third party liabilities?

Hope it doesn't cost too much, the nuisance factor is enough to contend with.

MOT tomorrow, so must empty the car later. On previous occasions I have done this bit by bit in the preceding days to save a last minute flurry of activity, but not this time. Already planning to kondo the bottle of hand cream that's been living upright in the cup holder for four years, never gets used. Come to think of it, I originally put it in the car as it wasn't getting used at home. Silly me. At least I don't have to worry about cleaning the car as they will give it a free wash n vac under the service plan.

Kondoed a pkt of crisps into the bin. Cheese, cucumber and salad cream flavour from a variety pack given to me by DD. Not quite my taste...

Some packages to wrap for the Bay and that will be my kondo addiction satisfied for today.

:) It's a council block. They have buildings insurance and we're encouraged to have home contents insurance but, under the terms of the tenancy agreement, interior decorating is the tenant's responsiblity at all times.

Even if said decoration is needed as a result of other people's actions or inactions. Which is annoying but them's the breaks. Housing officer has got hold of upstairs and they have temporarily staunched the leak under their tub until the plumber can sort it. Because it's been running since the beginning of the month and the wall is saturated, I estimate a couple of weeks' drying time, perhaps a bit more, depending on ambient temperature.

I won't be down financially as I have two part-used cans of Doolux bathroom mouldtec paint in my bike shed, just fine for doing inside the cupboards. If I get decor-fever, I may even decide to paint the whole kitchen. It's a huge 6 x 6 foot room and there's very little wall visible between the cupboards and appliances anyway. If it was empty it'd take hardly any time to paint, but you have to move the appliances out one-by-one to sidle around them.

:D Have been allotmenteering for 2 hours or so and have done a dump run with an IKEYA blue bag of nasty weeds - you don't want to try composting horsetails and bindweeds and couch grass.

Well that's a shame about the insurance. But at least the leak's been stopped. Hope for some fine dry days to speed things up for you. x

I know what you mean about appliances. To get my w/m out, I'd have to move the f/f which is opposite. To move the f/f, I'd have to move the bin and close the door, then get the f/f the other side of the door to reopen it, then finally get w/m out and then do everything in reverse to get back to normal. So I'm not moving it. Ever. I hope...

:p I'm rapidly going off the idea of painting the kitchen, the more I think about it.

Step one; unchain the gas stove and ease away from wall, being careful of the hose connecting it to the gas supply. Shoehorn self into the slot it occupies, banging hip on the stupid scrap of counter on that side. Wash wall down inc some water pipes up corner. Reverse outwards, re-enter later with paint. Replace stove.

On opposite side, lift tabletop freezer off fridge (can barely lift it) and carry it into sitting room (barely fits thru shutter door. Go back for fridge and squeeze that through door. All to paint a small bit of wall below the wall unit.

Replace. Pull washer out far enough to crawl behind it but not too far or I'll pull its hoses off the plumbing. Bang head on underside of kitchen counter (guaranteed). Say bad words (also guaranteed). Wash walls, allow to dry and paint.

Remove kitchen blind to paint around window. Rude passers-by rubberneck in whilst doing so.

 Yeah, the more I think about it, the less I want to do it. But I will still paint the bit of wall behind the cupboards once everything's dry and de-mouldified. Have emulsion, will travel.

I would honestly only do the damaged bit behind the cupboards that you originally intended. Who on earth is going to look behind your WM or freezer? Even you can't see it!

Kondo'd HM soup to recently bereaved friend. She said how much she enjoyed previous batch. I hope she was being truthful 'cos she's getting more next week! :)

DH said, out of the blue, that he is going to have another look at underbed drawers to see if more clothing can go to sil for carbootie. :D

We took an improvised frame of souvenir badges from various trips abroad to a proper framer's last week to get a quote for bespoke frames. DH loves the badges but my effort at displaying them was, er, amateurish. He asked if he could have them properly done as a birthday gift. Great idea, nothing new into the house and joy for DH!

My birthday looms :) and I have been asked what I would like by a few folk. I am trying to think of inexpensive, calorie-free, non-dust-gathering, clutter-free items or experiences to put on the wishlist. I think I may suggest entry tickets for a variety of attractions and maybe a ride on a steam train :j I could leave the choice of destination to the gifters (it would be interesting to their choices).
I have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.
  • Morning all
I'd just paint the bit you can see that was water damaged GQ, sounds like too much hassle to paint areas that don't get to see the light of day. Hope it dries quickly.

Mmf007, days out sound a good idea for birthday gifts, all they create are memories so not clutter involved.

    Mins game day 20
Had the filing cabinet that stos stationery out and Kondoed that on Sunday morning. Loads got put into recycling I filled a big recycling bag with loads of stuff old notebooks, diaries, postcards, tatty papers and some old letters so I'll count that as today's 20 items as there were far more than that.
