KonMari 2016 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

  • Good afternoon all, and hello to Tia and mrs_Badger.

Busy day yesterday workwise, but things have been moving outwards and I am very pleased. Posted a Bay item out, it was a pair actually, so could technically be regarded as two! And more bids on other things, so very promising.

A couple of items of old uniform from a distant job finally went into clothing bank. Reasons for keeping were - a) I might want to go back (bit of a joke really as am unlikely to want to return and even if I did I'd get a new one) b) I might see someone from there who might want it as a spare (well, no I haven't seen anyone and the chances of anyone wanting it are laughable) and c) I might want to wear the heavy duty fleece lined waterproof to do winter gardening (equally laughable as I have no garden and even if I did any at someone else's house I really wouldn't want to do it labelled in my old kit.) SO it was entirely a no-brainer really, except I cannot fathom now why it took so blooming long to see sense!

Various bags of shred have departed. And junk emails are now deleted on sight.

No incomings apart from consumables plus one gift which will go out in due course.

  • 4 CS bags are lined up in my hall, 2 blackbin bags full of rubbish out and 9 recycling bags out for collection. I've tided through a chest of drawers and have a box of stuff I want Dh to look through toninght, I think it's all rubbish but it's his rubbish so he can make the decision on it.

I've filled my shredding bin and plan to do that tomorrow.

Not much happening here - bag of 4 bath, 2 hand towels donated to charity for families in crisis (all good quality, all in good nick - all in mink brown...) Half a dozen new in sealed packaging toothbrushes from Emirates airlines also donated there. 2 carrier bags of random small items for Op CC left outside for local person to collect in next few days.

OH has fitted the carpet (remnant from rental prop) in understairs cupboard and painted in there with leftover paint. New shoerack purchased (old one fits about 6 pairs of children's shoes on - there are 6 of us in this house) using a gift card recived at Xmas :) All items going back in there will be examined for joyfulness :) (currently the dressing up box and Vax have gone back in there) Packaging from said shoe rack will go on chiminea, along with some confidential paper and some scrap wood - keeping DS1 happy (he likes to burn it! :D)

DD is off to uni tomorrow so lots of things will be leaving here, including some excess teatowels, cleaning products and cloths, a random new duvet from the airing cupboard, a spare set of cutlery and some specific-to-her-dietary-tastes food from the freezer and pantry shelves. Most of the rest is either from her room or has been purchased specifically.

:) Turning up again like a bad penny.

The cone of yarn turned out to be chunky not DK and there isn't enough on there to make a sweater so it has been donated to the rug project - there is a second rug project waiting in the wings once this one is completed.

Therefore, I am about to head aloft in the quest for more cones (you must imagine a dramatic orchestral score at this point).

Have also gleefully found a carrier bag of carrier bags stashed at the foot of the spare bed. Time was, this would have been a nuisance but now we don't get the freebies, it's looking like a sound investment. I don't use many bags but I do need something to contain the chazzer donations, of course.

Cover me, ladies, I'm heading back into the roof.

ETA, from the edited selection of cones I took down to her armchair, she has selected a black and a bright blue, both 4 ply, to twine together to make one jumper which will come out a bit thicker than DK. She started doing this at my suggestion years ago, after lamenting at having a lot of coned yarn in 4 ply but actually needing DK for sweaters for the tribe. She was slightly-dubious about the idea but the jumpers are very successful.

An older jumper of Kid Bruv's (this new one will be his) has been officially condemned as too worn out. It will be laundered one more time before unravelling and I will incorporate it into a project. We makes it, we unmakes it, we makes it into summat else.

Went to slimming club this morning and have kondo'ed another pound., then had lunch with dd in York and bought her a fancy scented candle for doing well with her slimming and stocked up with lots of fruit.

Got home to find the skip has finally been taken away :j:j:j:j:j

Tomorrow I want to get rid of all the cardboard boxes ready for recycling, sort out the clean laundry and do some housework. It is getting dark already so will load up the dishwasher and tidy the kitchen then read my book and have a hot chocolate. Who says we don't have fun!!!

  • Morning All! Its Friday!!:j:beer:

Heavy rains here in London since yesterday afternoon, with lots of lightening (very very frightening...pls finish in Mr mercurys voice and song).

Two bags of duvet covers, pillow cases and extra bedsheets all gone to another local cs, who do gift aid. :j

Put a vacuum cleaner on streetlife, need to check it it works. If it does, hopefully that will go today.

We left an old sky box outside the house and that got taken.

Am glad stuff is leaving the house, I know we could have done more during the week, but studying, going out when we can and also his health do take a bit of priority. Crap will leave, it just takes a bit of time.

Right, time to get up and do the filing and then laptop work....

Hope everyone has a good day and ent get too drenched in this lovely weather that we are having.

    Morning all
So far escaping the storms but it's by muggy here and drizzle has just started.

Binmen have taken old carpet as well as household rubbish, pile of random scrap metal off front has finally disappeared. Managed to squeeze neighbour's excess garden rubbish in my recycling bin as his was full and that has all been collected.

Kondoed another cupboard in bedroom last night, it was the first sweep and I'm sure it will need doing again but it's DHs stuff so I held back. I am increasingly surprised by how much he is now letting go so not going to criticise. The DSs are clinging to everything including carp so their rooms are full, I'm just making it clear they cannot encroach on the space that is cared in the spare rooms. Apart from musical instruments and associated paraphnelia in the spare room now laughingly called the music room. Ds2 keeps trying to sneak toys into the smaller spare room as he doesn't want them but doesn't want them to go.

I've put my mins game up for over the weekend as I'm not sure I'll get it posted on the right days and it's all been done now.
    Mins game day 16

    8 pairs trousers or shorts

    Knitting DVD.
Various items from two pencils cases, cracked set square, no working pens or hard grubby erasers anyone? No I thought not- binned
Pack of two new/unopened vest tops bought for one of the DDs but none of them wanted them.
    3 cookbooks
    Broken toy garage

    Day 18
    2 large broken plastic toys

Old drum lesson invoices and paperwork - folder containing 6 years worth!
Old governors paperwork - most had been returned to the school but I shredded the remainder myself.
Old scouts paperwork ds2 stopped going over a year ago so folder of paperwork shredded.
Ncs paperwork shredded. Ds2 had his graduation and has his certificate now so don't need all the timetables and info

    Have a joyful morning all

GQ - I knitted DH a lovely chunky fisherman rib sweater some years ago using blue & white 4 ply - thought it looked great until DS1 said it looked like an oversized J cloth!!! I went off it after that lol.
