Holiday clothes all nicely KM folded in holiday apartment drawers, took no time at all :D

Off to eat our evening meal outside in the warm!

I intend to keep up the KM practises as best I can while on hols, so having items in their best location for ease of finding when needed, tidying beach bag out daily, doing handwashing daily rather than letting it accumulate! :rotfl:

Take care, especially around potential avalanches of baking trays ( been there, done that!).

I have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.

Not much KM this weekend as I had 4 small children yesterday and now over at DS1s for last night - home this evening.
As boxes for one sideboard cupboard (stuff was kondoed but I can't get down to get stuff in and out easily) worked well I purchased the same to fill the other two cupboards. They are easy to slide in and out and easy enough to lift onto nearby table. 2 for table clothes and runners, small one for napkins, one full sundae dishes, spare wine glasses etc. There is one containing Komono which I would like to lose but DH may object but it's all together in a small box. 4 beer glasses returned to DS2.

Sure the orange dress was not necessary though!

Everybody in this household has woken up in a grump this morning - no idea why :( Have caught up on thread but now going to tackle kitchen tidy up ( nobody did it last night ) whilst listening t the Archers so I am guaranteed to be left alone to get on with it - fine by me ;)

  • Haha Igamogam, Ive just done exactly the same as you! I find it soothing to tidy up now, because pretty much everything has a place. Before KM it was just shifting piles of toot from one place to another. Still haven't quite cured my 'hotspot' though.

The tidying was more relaxing than The Archers which is driving me mad at the moment with poor characterisation and weak story lines ... however that's a whole other thread! :rotfl:

So my personal challenge will be just to count how many items leave the house, the excess 'stuff' that is. I had thought about weighing it all and keeping a Kg tally but I felt that was a bit meaningless as I dont think it will have the same impact! I keep a spending diary and will make a note in there and if I remember I will post on here. I intend to just count every item that is a paperback size and bigger. This way it wont become too burdensome or obligatory. Never know I may just make 2016 items in 2016. Yesterday I took stuff to CS and the first total is 45..............if I did that every week 2016 items will be easily reached.........now that is scary:eek:

I bought very few things in 2015 - only essentials if truth be known. I have bought some clothes in sales post Christmas as a) I go through clothes very quickly at work - they get ruined easily so I tend to down grade stuff to 'work wear' b) I have lost weight - with no effort other than dealing with the stuff:D and c) see a)! However I have realised today as we slowly put back the kitchen we need a decent set of egg cups and I am going to treat myself to some:rotfl:

:)GrannyKate, Miss Minimalist is very much in favour of containing things like by like in what she terms 'modules' - which can be any container which works in your circumstances and floats your boat aesthetically.

I found that I was doing this naturally as it works for my very small home where the sitting-room has to serve multiple purposes and also be presentable for visitors. I have things in containers, chiefly shoeboxes, some baskets/ bags, and get them out when needed.

Did an early trip to the allotment to plant out some £land fruit bushes I got yesterday. Also took an IKEA bagful of nasty weeds to the tip and had problems with the bungee cord. Basically, the bag fell off the bike's carrier twice and closer inspection revealed that the bungee cord's elastic fibres have loss their elasticity. Chucked that into the tip as well, and took the metal remains of a street-find damaged brolly (I wombled it for the fabric to make a bag) into the metal recycling.

Am having a pottering around day, giving the place a good clean and tidy around, now I have got rid of 99% of the Stuff which came up from the parental home last Sunday. By gum, that was a helluva job getting that all out of here, but I did it in the end.

Keep up the good works, lovely peeps. GQ xx

Hope everyone is having a good weekend, and staying dry warm and safe. (Its p**ing down here).

Yesterday got rid of shelf/bookcase top to a bureau. The bottom part went in the week to a 'friend', who said he wanted it all, but just collected the bottom, said he would be back for the top as there was no room in his car, then said he didn't want it leaving us to get rid of it! Not pleased. So we had to take to the tip. Still, something else sorted.

I found a box of completely forgotten of toiletries at the bottom of a blanket box, some of which have 'died in storage'. As other people have said, they could have given someone else joy.

Although KMing is taking me much longer than anticipated, the joy and freedom of tidy drawers and cupboards, knowing where an item is, and making sure any new purchases are right and joyful is lovely.

    Take care, H.

:) I hate that moment when you find something, or even a cache of somethings, which have died in storage. Sometimes, they've seeped and made a vile mess of something else, which then creates extra cleaning work and sometimes the leaked-upon item isn't savable and then you've got double-wastage, grrr!

I'm trying to discipline myself not to save stuff for best and risk wasting it. Within reason; I don't wear my best clothes to go gardening in. Or a fancy dress to do what I'm doing right now (waiting for the floor to dry after washing it, so's I can get over the wet bit and clean another bit).

I've also decided to hiff out two spares of an item I use every few weeks. The reason I have three of them is that they were only available in a 3-pack (timer switches). The whole 3-pack cost a whopping £5.99 and the two spare timers irritate me when I use the shoebox where my electric bits and bobs live, as I have to play tetris to get everything back.

I've been hanging onto all three in case one breaks. This hasn't happened in about a decade. And I'm coming to the world view that I'd rather spend a few quid down the line as necessary than be irritated with excess belongings right now.:p
