KonMari 2016 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

WORT - Don't be upset . My eldest dd offered to come and help me .She seemed to think a few hours and charity shop drop off and skip for the stuff that was beyond anyone wanting was the answer .
As we know on here it takes a long time to accumalate this stuff and much has memories tied up in it . It is a steady ongoing process over time . I remember GQ on the hoarding thread very slowly and kindly working her way towards her mother first acknowledging her hoard and then allowing the process to begin and look at them now .
Your daughter probably was panicky and slightly ashamed also fearful that something would go accidently. I had these feelings myself when my daughter made her offer .
The above is why I believe KM will work for me , it will be about my choice , no one will question why something that gives me real joy is being kept .Sorry for the spelling errors . Been another long day .

Thanks Pollywollydoodle and Pollyanna, I was probably over emotional!
I was nT trying to kondo, though she probably didn't realise as I spend so much time talking about it
She did text an apology an hour ago, she's been pretty stressed recently, which is one of the reasons I wanted to help.
I think you're right about being too close, it hurts to see them having problems.Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.0 -
The Pollys are right
In the past, if I was offered help from OH I would refuse it - I think through anger at myself ,frustration and embarrassment. OH has got angry and frustrated because his method would be to just hoof everything into a skip, which he offered to hire every school holiday - and by everything he meant 'stuff' that he considered to be my accumulations - his piles/boxes/cupboards of 'stuff' he is blind to  He stopped the 'shall I hire a skip for you' routine earlier this year when 1) I told him I now had saved enough money from sales of things to go on a extended long haul holiday - on my own or buy most of a new kitchen ( I spent it on the latter
and 2) I told him I found the skip offer a little passive aggressive and he was better than that.............. I think he has come to realise I will ask for help when I need it and because I can do it in my way it will be a long term solution..........now about the 4 electric drills, the countless tins of screws and a strange collection of broken mugs that lurk in the workshop........;)
Yesterday I posted I had revisited bedding.........DD2 has had a room makeover so curtains and matching bedding have gone on sale and a number of bed sets and fitted sheets have gone to CS and kerbside collection. DD1 went though her room whilst she was home and has managed to part with 5 pairs of shoes, some PJ's and jumpers - all in CS bag. Odd bits of kibble also in CS bag - unused coat hooks,toiletry/make up bags that I think where gifts and their contents used a long time ago and I have a bag full of close to date/ OOD food stuffs and toiletries for my regular fr**gle collectorSo far so good.......but not as much as I wanted:o
Last year we had a good sort out of Christmas decorations - dont feel there is anything to do there - but the boxes are still to be put away:mad: Wasted so much time yesterday dealing with after sales staff and their withering apologies I just didnt get around to it. So today I will make sure that job is done if nothing else:DBe the change you want to see -with apologies to Gandhi

New bedding turned up, and is lovely, so one 30-year old completely rotten double duvet cover will be turned into rags after this weekend.
My mother dropped in yesterday with more curtains and fabric which I may need as part of my refurbishment. These have been put away until next week as I can't deal with them now!
All this year's christmas and birthday presents so far have been joyful, including clothes. I think my own decisiveness has led to a clearer personal style wich in turn makes it easier for people to work out what gifts are appropriate.0 -
I have this... spaghetti heap of all my fairy lights on the floor to my left. I didn't use them in my last flat apart from one battery operated set. So far, I haven't used them in this flat and I've been here for 5 months. Now, there's an easy decision waiting to be put off :rotfl:‘Keep your eye on the donut and not on the hole.’ David Lynch.

Morning kondoties
A pair of Newish trainers that have been lurking in my cupboard waiting for my other pair to bite the dust (which they now have)
Wore them yesterday for a short run and they killed me as my running style has changed since I brought them so what a waste they have to goSo once again dont keep things for best use them NOW
So they are now in the charity bag as they will suit someones style of running.:DWas going to keep them just for the gymBut that is almost keeping them JIC so they have gone.I need a pair that does both gym and running cant faff about changing them over all the time.
Also a pit bike that was my stepsons which has been lurking in the garage for about 3 years is going today :T To a home where it will be enjoyed and used.
So all in all been a good day with 'stuff' leaving the house and decsions made
House is always tidy now and I never worry about who comes and whenand I can always find whatever I need so life is so less stressful I really cant believe it.
So keep going everyone it does work and you will get there no matter how overwelming it seems at anyone time
Have a stress free weekend and enjoy it (if you can) and I hope the wind and rain stops in places it needs to xxx

Going to take a couple of late arrival Christmas gifts over to dd1 this morning so they will be out of the way, then will use a card and gift bag from my stash to drop friends pressie round to her.SPC~12 ot 124

So is mine, neither do i, so can I, so is mine and nor do I! :rotfl:
A friend dropped in for coffee on Thursday and commented that it was "nice and tidy" and was a bit amazed when i said it generally was these days. occasionally there is a pile of paperwork in the kitchen, but i am getting better at dealing with it straight away.
It does work and it IS magic. Even OH is getting better. One of his christmas presents was a model of a vintage bus (don't ask) - i asked what he was going to do with it and he said "I think it can go". This is truly groundbreaking (though it hasn't actually gone yet).I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
I don't really do charity shops yet (but I will along the journey I'm sure). I have a pair of barely worn heels that if I'm honest are too high so getting rid (I'm a bit rubbish with heels despite being very short!). Think I only wore them properly once or twice but I've had them a few years. As they are barely worn they are in good condition, except where the label from the shop has been peeled off it peeled some shoe material with it making them look messy on the insole (not visible once they are on!). Would a charity shop be likely to accept this or should I just bin them?Trying to lose weight (13.5lb to go)0
