KonMari 2016 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

Builders come round tomorrow to finish up some small jobs so I really need to sort through my boxes in the integral garage. If I clearly label what is in the boxes I am keeping and then fill boxes "to go" then I hope the builders can take them away tomorrow.
It is too hot to move so might just drag a box at a time into the living room to sort out while the tv is on so it feels less like work.
DDs have already taken an old mattress to the tip when they were here on Sunday and the new mattress is on the bed upstairs. I ordered a couple of sun loungers in the sales so we could take advantage of the hot weather.
I will come back on here when I have got stuff sorted as an incentive."This site is addictive!"

Been there, done that. Major design flaw, isn't it?
Have decluttered two books back to the library but, apart from that, haven't any decluttering plans for the bit of the day I wasn't working on. Far too hot to do anything energetic.
I have made some decluttering plans for when certain things drop below a certain level, which will free up their containers/ furniture. These are long-term plans but will add up to fewer items on the premises.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

The road to the tip was open yesterday, so I placed the CoD components in their various recycling areas. Then I took 3 bags of stuff, including the slow cooker to the Red Cross shop... very satisfying. Though there's more to be done, every item that's thanked on its way leaves a lightness and spaciousness in its place.
My bedroom is now completely kondo'd. It took the removal of the CoD, after the second kondo through the clothes meant I no longer needed it. (first clothes kondo was in 2015). And finally, removing the perfume bottles. All of a sudden, the room felt serene and calm, and so did I.
So, if you're not there yet, keep going... there comes a point in the process when you hit the sweet spot for the space you've been clearing, and you'll simply feel it.0 -

This is what it's all about and I'm so pleased for you to have got there with your bedroom. Isn't it the best feeling?
Even when fully-kondo'd, my home will still be a very small place. Heck, it's tiny even without a stick of furniture in it, but each thing which leaves adds up to more ease and lightness and less visual distractions.
This weekend, I will be going to visit the folks (steady! not much time for kondo-ing!) and will take a couple of things which belong over there back with me.
Have decided that the WIP I have just started won't be a keeper, it'll be done for the pleasure of it, photo'd, and donated. I have a photo album of Things I Have Made, which I can refer to whenever I like and still enjoy the satisfaction of accomplishment without having to retain each and every item I ever sewed, knitted or rug-hooked.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

No, seriously, I won't arrive until Friday evening, and we'll be out from 8-2-ish on Saturday at my Nan's and then I have to catch the bus back on Sunday evening.
I won't be able to resist some kondo-ing, if I can get parental authorisation. The top of their living room sideboard (clutter central) is in my sights. Their phone sits up there and is always falling or nearly falling off it when they're chatting to me. I think I have made the case that I ought to be allowed to declutter that surface to prevent one more (possibly terminal) fall by their telephone. Wish me luck!Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Aww - I was hoping for another weekend of updates from your parents' home! We do love these.
Yesterday I decided as it was too hot to go out, I'd get the sewing machine out to do a small repair. Alongside it was a bag containing a WIP - a top I started about two years ago, it went wrong and I stuffed it in the bag and left it. Initial feelings of shame and inadequacy were conquered, I got it out - and discovered (a) it was much nearer to being finished than I recalled (b) the problem was tiny and easily resolved. So I now have a new top - the first thing I've made for myself in years - one less WIP and a sense of achievement! One of my aims when I gave up FT work last year was to start making my own clothes again, but it hasn't happened so far.
Take it easy folks - another hot one today.Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.0 -
Came across this this morning - love it!

MMF - Well done you! You must be so observant, I'd never have noticed that happening, let alone be able to act on it!
Mavvy - not sure what you're up to but it sounds like a real-life version of Pokemon (gotta catch 'em all!)
Hello to everyone else, I've not been keeping up with the thread I'm afraid but have been slowly and surely decluttering and am starting to feel I'm getting there.
I cleared out outhouse, which was crawling with all manner of things that had more legs than me, so that I could get the roof re-waterproofed. There were loads of dad's tools in there that I felt awful putting in the bin, but a) they were too rusty to do anything with (because so much rain had got in), and b) when am I ever going to use a power tool?! So the bin has weighed a tonne these last couple of weeks
I also tidied up the whole house so that I could have a glazier come and measure up. My bedroom was the worst of the worst being the only room that visitors don't see, but the floor is clear now and it makes me so happy! It's not completely clutter free and certainly needs more Kondoing, but it's such a big improvement!
I spent the weekend sorting through all the paperwork/household admin I'd collected from various corners of the house and I now have a neat ordered box file, with a small wallet on top containing things to be dealt with, plus a binbag full of shreddings!
I still have all my leftover teaching paperwork to sort through (lesson plans and resources, which I have electronically anyway) and I want to get that done in the next couple of days as it's recycling day this Friday.
Also on today's to do list is:
- arrange bulky waste collection for the bits of furniture that are no good to anyone
- arrange collection of dad's two bikes with the local cycling charity thing
- apply for new bank account
- start washing some of dad's clothes ready for donation, while the weather's good for drying
Phew, sorry for the long self indulgent post! I'll try to get into the habit of posting little and often!Weightloss: 14.5/65lb0
