KonMari 2016 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

Just spent a happy 20 minutes "diarising" (I hate that word
) stuff for the next few months. I am filling in time till 9.00 when some tickets DS is after come on sale. It is his 17 th birthday today (ye gods how did I come to have such old children when I am still a mere babe). Which means driving lessons  going into the smoke when he finishes school (11.00 - I never got to finish at 11.00
) for a slap up breakfast and to buy some bits he wants for his guitar. Then out for a meal tonight, DD is home for Easter this PM so it's all go here.
I am going to fill in time between 9 and 11 by having another go at the office, it is the only really cluttered room left and is supposed to be my workspace, but is still so awful that I can't stand to be in it. Also the radiator doesn't work in there for some reason so I am going to have another go at that.
I have a confession - I am going to remove a cardi from the kondoed bag, realised yesterday that it would go well with some particular trousers. But I did add a jumper to the bag so it evens up.
I also have to get some quotes from some builders to kondo half our garden wall. It is 150 years old and leaning at a precarious angle. After a bit of a battle with the council, they have finally agreed that it is not listed (listing, but not listed :rotfl:) and so we are going to knock the very leaning bit down, before it kills someone . It was going to cost around £10000 to rebuild:eek::eek: but will be a fraction of that to demolish and dispose  we may even be able to flog the bricks....
I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Morning all :j
Offloaded all my bags yesterday to my friend, gratefully received! She has also said she's happy to take all the bric a brac 'stuff' with a view to trying to sell a bit of it as funds for the playgroup. She would also be delighted to take the games for the children to play with so I'm really pleased with that as that's the stuff I've been wondering what to do with and it's been hanging around for years.
Need to dip into the book again for guidance on the next steps as I know which rooms still need doing but need to check which category I'm allowed to do next. I said to friend I'd take more stuff round next weekend so I'll need to crack on to get that sorted but I think that once I get started I will actually find there isn't much.
Good luck with the wall VJsmum, on my list this weekend is trying to arrange for someone to come round and clear the gutters, there is foliage sprouting from them round the front of the house
Have a good day!0 -
Been a while since I last posted but have been reading and kondoing in the background. Have loved all the posts about positive things happening during and after the kondo process.
Final kitchen cupboard done and lots gone but as it is a big corner cupboard and I'm not able to reach the back haven't managed to put everything back in a workable way yet. Loving having more space on the worktop.
More things also gone from the office and have some things to sell but will hang onto those in a box for now as there are more similar items to go.
Charity received another box this week and lots more gone into recycling.Decluttering Awards: 🏅🏅0 -
I think KonMari comes pretty naturally to me, I probably throw/give
away too easily but I would love a house with no clutter. Here's my problem, a husband who is a hoarder and a son who isn't much better and has left loads of stuff here. I have been clearing out sons room, I am going to tell him he can leave his bookcase and all the books and he can leave some of his plastic boxes under the bed, but not so many that they are sticking out all round the bed! The wardrobes need clearing and some shelves and the drawers. All good.
What do I do with a hoarder husband. I can't convince him his life would be so much easier if he had less stuff. He has the bits for anything you might ever need to replace/repair but the chances of ever finding any of it are slim to none.
All suggestions would be most appreciated.
Just to add I did get him to give some clothes to the Sally Army by appealing to his conscience about the rough sleepers who needed them more than he did.Sell £1500

Yay, I've just got back from a successful mission of acquiring more recycling bags. Managed to get them in a local shop rather than having to go into town.
Dropped off last weekend's kondo clearout at the charity shop as well, so still getting more going out than coming in.
Yesterday I managed to get a replacement iron, if you recall my existing one was playing up a few weeks back. I bought a replacement which turned out to have a shorter lead, the existing iron started working OK again so the new one went back. Well the same fault has returned, it's just not getting hot enough, so bought another in the supermarket yesterday, which looks a lot like the original 'new' one, except they are now making it with a longer lead. Happy days, and thanks to the old iron for hanging on long enough for me to get a better replacement. And the new iron was reduced from £79.50 to £50.
Old iron needs to go into the pile for our next trip to the tip/recycling centre.Make £2025 in 2025

Random question here for the crafters. Does anybody know anything about mosaic grout? We have a mirror where some of the tiles have dropped off so I need to buy some grout to put them back on. The grout appears to be a very dark grey or possibly black. Does anybody know if black grout dries to a black or does it look dark grey? I don't want to buy the wrong colour. Some of the grey grouts I'm finding are described as cement which would be way too light.Make £2025 in 2025

Thanks Floss may have to go down that route if I can't work out from the crafters which one it is to buy. I only want a small amount, it's only about 3 square inches of tiles........... hmm, wonder if they do tester pots of coloured grout. That could do it perhaps?
Edit, just checked the TT website, I think 2.5kg could be overkill!Make £2025 in 2025

Be interested in any replies to this as well. We have 2 of most garden/hand tools following his parents moving into a flat in 2007. Said items moved house with us twice,0 -
I just realised I do something else very KM: my dds' school art never makes it to the walls
. I think of it as 'practising' - whether that's colour combinations, motor skills, types of material, etc. We have a look at it when it comes in, they explain the why and wherefore, and it gets binned as soon as they are in bed.
However, if I see them making something at home, fully concentrated, craft material all over the place, tongue between their lips - it definitely goes onto the wall, maybe even gets framed. That is their art, something they wanted to make, has a purpose (and usually a recipient - I love their love notes!). That gives us great joy.Are you wombling, too, in '22? € 58,96 = £ 52.09Wombling in Restrictive Times (2021) € 2.138,82 = £ 1,813.15Wombabeluba 2020! € 453,22 = £ 403.842019's wi-wa-wombles € 2.244,20 = £ 1,909.46Wombling to wealth 2018 € 972,97 = £ 879.54Still a womble 2017 #25 € 7.116,68 = £ 6,309.50Wombling Free 2016 #2 € 3.484,31 = £ 3,104.590
